A million times yes to a Let's Read of Homestuck. Honestly, I feel like 2024 is the best time to get into Homestuck because there's so much less fandom drama and you can read the whole comic to completion without needing to worry about updates.
I do suggest though that you read the version using the Unofficial Homestuck Collection as it preserves and fixes a lot of issues with the online version, notably flash's death.

I was looking for a comment talking about the homestuck collection-
Yeah, you can’t read some of the most important parts due to flash shutting down and the official homestuck website preserving it terribly lol

@@merobiba413 When it comes to homophobia, I, as a gay man, think the slur replacement is bad. Being a homophobic douche is integral to Dave's character arc. And John being a homophobic douche is also integral to Dave's character arc.
I'm iffy on the ableist stuff too. For the first five acts of the comic, yeah it's just the problem of the times. But when Caliborn says it it's part of his character because he's an asshole. But I'm not neurodivergent, or at least not diagnosed as anything, so I have less of a horse in that race.

I genuinely vouch for the good natured fun of homestuck as a post-series first time read. It certainly had an allure in the moment, but it's way better after all is said and done in the here and now. I also wanna shamelessly shill for anyone who cares about AU's to give the Crow Strider AU a chance if you've read homestuck and weren't satisfied with the original, vanilla series of events, or even just as an alternative extra read after getting through homestuck. It gives a lot of love to the side characters who may come off as underbaked or left behind with no real story conclusion given to them, with a focus on saving as many characters as possible and giving proper sendoffs to everyone who just wouldn't make sense to bring along and alive while still making the story ending plausible and interesting. It also isn't a canon-replacement story, just an adjacent what-if alternative that allows itself to give a happy ending to as many as possible. It's also currently getting its own epilogue, and the AU itself is roughly over 4000 pages, so it's no slouch in terms of size and content to offer. It's a lot less dialogue boxes with lots of text, and more writing on the actual pages itself. It even has a few animations! Give it a try if you like, you only really need a rough understanding of up until the 3 Year Trip in canon to get started.

im a 27 y/o who started reading homestuck at 14. got into it right around when cascade dropped, i think? i wasn't much of a con-goer at all. so i avoided a ton of all that drama... i just had my own little corner of the internet where i posted and shared fanart and reacted to updates alongside everyone else...
so many of us started reading when they were the same age as the kids in the comic. i think thats kinda why the fanbase got such a reputation. middle and high schoolers arent exactly known for their impulse control... or. understanding of what the fuck is appropriate behavior. and a ton of us probably werent supervised on the internet either... just look at any "cringe" fandom with a ton of kids that got into it. ( _coughundertalecough_ )
but like... it really was something like. the first of its kind, in my mind. it changed fandom and con scene as a whole. for everyone. forever. it was huge. homestuck changed my brain chemistry as an artist and a writer. theres a lot wrong with homestuck (to say a lot of it aged like milk would be an understatement, and the writing fell off as act 6 went on way too fucking long) *but theres a lot more to love about it.* the characters are some of the best and most memorable. they're what we all stuck around through long hiatuses for.
i will always recommend it to people who love ttrpgs and world building because neat space alien lore and well written characters aside, the world and mechanics of the world ending game itself is the most interesting. its a self insert dream. (not to mention the massive crossover au potential) and so many creative people used its building blocks to make their own fan adventures that are just as good if not better than their inspirations.
everyone is always joking about homestuck being cringe. homestucks current and former say that all the time. i get that its a bit that homstuck is the worst. but god damn it, ill say it with my whole chest, *homestuck is good actually.* we can say it, guys. its okay.

The Let's Read Homestuck videos were my saving grace, I didn't have the time or the attention span to sit down and actually read it all. As someone who also got into Homestuck really late (2022), I'm excited to see what you think of it! For reading it, I'd recommend downloading the Unoffical Homestuck Collection and using that - Homestuck used a lot of flash back in the day so this is the best simulation of that.
Also I can totally see Coley being a space player like her Trollsona is, considering her whole channel is about art and writing and creating things.

Homestuck's OST is also really good, highly recommend.
I got into Homestuck in the Gigapause year (2014) when I was an early 20-something. Kept myself out of fandom spaces so I never got to see/experience the shenanigans that the greater fanbase was up to (much to the relief of my friends with Tumblr accounts).
Got into making retrospective fact/theory videos shortly after the original comic's wrap up and I still do reactions to Homestuck Beyond Canon to this day. It's been a fun decade!

The sharpie and alcohol bath story helped me diagnose why I was getting sick at work when all my coworkers (doctors!!) couldn't figure out what was wrong with me and I had to take 2 pregnancy tests. So a medication I was on reacts negatively to any tiny ingestion of alcohol, even a sip of mouthwash. I was sanitizing my hands so much that midway thru my shift, I had absorbed enough alcohol to equal a tiny sip, which was enough to react with my medication. I switched to hand washing for the rest of the week I had to take it and everything was fine. So this famous homestuck cosplay story saved me from a week of hugging the toilet and I'll be forever grateful (and tell my patients that work in Healthcare that excessive hand sanitizer use counts as alcohol consumption when it comes to medication side effects lol)

One thing that is, unfortunately, worth noting is that, while the original Homestuck 2 team did, absolutely, face relentless and unwarranted harassment, they were apparently also deeply dysfunctional internally, culminating with their creative director trying to silence a CZcams essayist - SarahZ - with legal threats.

I feel like I have one of the weirder Homestuck fan experiences because it was mostly defined by having literally no one to talk to about the story. Like I walked in pretty green some time in 2013 (the Gigapause had only started a few weeks prior), got lost in the sauce and loved all the bandcamp albums but I’d ask people ‘hey, have you heard of Homestuck?’ and *no one did*. There were the old forums but I never got too deep into them, mostly looking at and dipping my toe into making fan art/a fan troll for myself (and much like with some people and sonic, homestuck was the series where I was willing to really begin stretching my artistic muscles, so I’ll always appreciate it for that). I fell off some time in 2016 as I lost the plot a bit as the climax approached but I still find it funny that my memory of the time is just ‘that one fandom I wasn’t able to talk with anyone about.’

I tried to get into it when I o was in highschool round the 2010's and had to stop at Rose's introduction cause english was my second language and i had to open up a dictionary tab to know what she was saying. Discouraging at the time but years later when i heard it was completed and i was depressed from burnout and quitting a job i gave it another shot. Especially since i had run through the undertale fandom and saw that toby fox was also involved in it.

tl;dr: i love homestuck, i love vriska, was around in 2012, but got into it in 2022: so i'm technically a new homestuck; excited to see you read homestuck!
so when i was little (around 2012) my older sister was very into homestuck so she showed me most of the flashes (video animations/ s pages) and had me listen to most of the music. years later, (2022) i randomly had sburban jungle stuck in my head (although i could not remember that name at the time) and i was like "what is that from?? home...homestuck??" so i looked it up, and i found it, and the moment i saw john egbert stand in his room, i was hit with nostalgia, and when (s) john took a bite of that apple, i was in love with the comic. when my sister realized i was reading homestuck, she was like "oh my gosh. i didn't think you would remember that, i didn't show *that* much of the comic to you" and then she reread it and showed it to her husband, and we got into it together.
i can't say that i was part of the old homestucks because i was too young to know what was happening, but i can say that i was there for the release of cascade, and being super excited for it due to my sister also being excited for it. id say i'm a new homestuck because 2022 was the first time i'd ever read homestuck and consumed it not as a 6 year old.
i think this is kind of concerning to say but homestuck kind of shaped my life, because i mean i was pretty young and i was watching gamzee kill everyone. but i remember being so into the music and the art, and nowadays those two things are the only thing i can think of. i'm learning how to play homestuck music on instruments and not a day goes by where i don't draw at least one homestuck character in my notebooks for school. also, younger me was obsessed, and i mean, OBSESSED, with vriska. i remember thinking that she was just the coolest person i have ever seen, and i watched (s) make her pay and (s) flip on REPEAT. probably not the best hyperfixation and probably why i am the way that i am now (vriska is still my favorite character, and no, vriska did a ton of things wrong (but also was trying to do things right), and that's why i love her [ᵇᵘᵗ ᵗᵃᵛʳᵒˢ ᵈᵉˢᵉʳᵛᵉˢ ᵇᵉᵗᵗᵉʳ])
i just got two other friends into homestuck and they love it so i just have a mini homestuck group
i think that 2024 homestucks are pretty chill and it's exciting to see people get into it without getting constantly bashed with the "sins" of the old homestucks. i look forward to any videos you make on your read of homestuck and i sincerely hope you find at least one thing in it that's interesting!
ahhhh man idk i just practically wrote my life story and i did not read over it so if something makes no sense sorry lol

I think I screamed at the thought of Dream SMP/L'Manburg being the first thought in Coley's mind when it came to disks. Fucking amazing!
Coley, I'll give you a heads-up/clarification about the disks. Homestuck is a very meta story and has lots of references to RPG gaming mechanics and coding. When they talk about the 'disks', they mean both in-universe and meta-wise. Dave's planet is a disk/record player and the physical copies of the SBURB game that the kids had and Hussie has. Yes. The creator is canonically part of the comic. He did it in his socialist clown visual novel too.
P.S: Yeah, I'm still a homestuck. I joined the fandom in 2020 and watched the *ENTIRE* disaster with What Pumpkin, Hussie leaving, Hiveswap drama, FriendSim drama, and Beyond Canon. It was such a wild ride... I still have whiplash from it.

I am not in the USA so we only HEARD of these stories and there was some distrust about it because anime people only heard about the stuff, but nothing really happened in the convention scene in my city. I was a part of the boom of new fans that got into Homestuck during the pandemic a few years back. It was around my birthday which is kinda funny, and I had heard about it for the first time on a forum I was briefly a part of. I decided to look it up and started reading it, going into it completely blind not knowing anything about the story or the fandom's past reputation.
After a hyperfixation-fueled two weeks of binge reading, not getting enough to eat or sleep (and at one point even developing a fever lol) I had come out the other side with my brain chemistry permanently altered. I can't even look at astrological signs or candy corns the same way again.
Jokes aside, while the webcomic's definitely very weird and some parts didn't really age well, it's still a story that means a lot to me with a fandom that helped get me through a really rough time. So glad if you decide to check it out, I think it's worth it even if just to understand its wide influence on fandom spaces

i read HS in its hayday and took part in the fandom, but reading it as it came out was definitely a very different experience compared to reading it as a completed work. i wouldn't say one experience is better than the other because (imo) HS is absolutely better as a binge experience than an ongoing work but upd8 culture really can't be beat in terms of sheer hype. i reread HS in its entirety in 2021 and for some reason i just. fell in love again. my thoughts on certain characters and scenes changed so drastically in a way that only 10 years of life experience can make happen. others have said it but bamboshu's unofficial homestuck archive is an absolute must-have if you're gonna read it, the level of care and detail they put into preserving this piece of internet culture is just nothing short of admirable. also, no shame in watching voxus's let's read, a lot of their voices became fanon staples and freaking DANTE BASCO is in it. i can't get over that even all these years later. i wish you luck on your reading journey, if you do some kind of let's read or a book club-style vlog of you reading it i'd eat it up, how i'd love to be able to read HS for the first time again. rosemary's wedding changed me as a person, fundamentally.

My Homestuck anecdote is that when I first joined Twitter in 2011, the first time I had my moment of "I hate this damn place" was in 2012 during the Homestuck boom. It completely soured me on it and I never looked back, nowadays, (and after quitting Twitter in 2020) I don't dislike it, I just don't care for it, but it is impressive how it's one of the longest written works of fiction in the English language.

i´ve been a homestuck for almost two years and i think most of the fandom is reall nice! like there are not as many people as before but even then i still find homestucks everywhere i go (online) and as someone from chile, a country which never really experienced the comic´s boom, im surprised to see that it still has a small, but dedicated fandom here! i read it back in 2022, but i was planning on re-reading cause i forgot most of the stuff that happened lmao. so yeah i feel like you (and anyone who is interested in it) should def read homestuck :3

    hi, long time homestuck here
i got into it in 2015 and was absolutely rabid for like 2 years. then i stopped being a teenager and relaxed. many long time fans have read homestuck 8 or more times, ive only done it twice, and havent done so since the demise of flash. i do, however, have installed the Unofficial Homestuck Collection, which is the definitive way to experience it today (hell, even hussie has it linked in their linktree).
theres "mods" you can install for the homestuck reader, and i HIGHLY reccomend using "text color adjustments". many characters write/speak in bright text color, which is awful to read on a bright background. the opposite is true for characters with dark text colors. (the background does change color a few times in the story)
    looking forward to your readthrough.

I was a bit young to be into homestuck in it’s hay day so I got into it after seeing Jacksepticeye’s play through of hiveswap back in 2016 and homestuck hasn’t let me go since- you can’t fight it- you can’t fight the homestuck

I tried getting into it because of all the hype on Tumblr, and I had a very hard time understanding what it was all about. I remember going to the website and I genuinely thought it was supposed to be like a game or an interactive novel, but because of my cluelessness and laziness, I barely made it passed the first scene! 😣 Also, Sarah Z made very in-depth videos about Homestuck that managed to get her into trouble with the people behind Homestuck! 😂😭

in 2020 or 2021 my best friend and her family came up ffrom out of state for my birthday to visit. I saw a jade harley sticker on my friends sisters water bottle. that was my very sheltered from the internet at the time, last year of highschool gen z introduction to homestuck. i started to read it a year later. im still going through the comic at a snails pace, but im a proud homestuck fan today and am going to do a terezi cosplay at my first ever comicon this summer. I also feel like i missed out in the fandom because i was just too young. Good luck to anyone just getting into homestuck! the fandom is alot more accepting and laid back now from what I hear, and new fans are always welcomed!

    I got into Honestuck late.
I'd seen about it before, some webcomic featuring a strange horned fairy woman with a seven spotted eye, but never really investigated further.
I would later watch many Tumblr readings by PM Seymour, where he mentioned some things as Homestuck references. Out of curiosity, I checked it out. That was a few years ago, now it's in my brain forever actually. Gamzee made me realize why I like clowns, the whole deal with the zodiac stuff made me figure out I'm a virgo, same as Kanaya, which is rad for reasons I don't want to spoil, & now I occasionally draw things such as Signless with big naturals & Doc Scratch with dumptruck ass.

i hope homestuck makes a comeback because i truly love the content people in the fandom make, the fanfics, fanart, cosplays, panels at conventions ect it was all so creative!!

however you want to approach sharing your homestuck experience with everyone is fine c: jsut do whatever you feel is best c:
personally I got into homestuck a while back via a fan dub of the comic, i had heard of it offhand but didn't know too mcuh beyond some vague plot points and poorly rememebred characters and moments, so when i saw the fandub on youtube i thought it was time to try it.
I was hooked. I loved how unique it was, making full use of its status as a webcomic to be experimental and multimedia. My fave characters are Jade, Rose, karkat and one character I don't thin you named so I won't spoil.
remember to read the pesterlogs (you'll know what they are don't worry) and don't skip the intermissions they actually matter and cna be fun.
