This was playing at the Dallas Children’s film Festival. It is a movie for adults, not kids of all ages, as it was advertised. I would suggest that the writer of this book examine her life traumas and stops writing for children until she does so.
This could be a move for college kids to write about, but certainly not for little ones. Even if they don’t understand, it’s a brainwashing for fragile young minds. It’s a perfect way to get it into their subconscious that they should feel like they have no choice and that everything in life is shit… including angry police officers who don’t respect citizens, and bunnies hacking off a robot who can’t do anything but lay there while they’re doing it. (The entire move is like this)
Shameful to get little children into these seats to see this.
As an adult though, the move was excellent.

I respectfully disagree with this examination. I do think that while it may not be suitable for very young kids, that it is still possible to be enjoyed by, say, 8 and above. While there is cruelty in these scenes, such as the leg hacking, there is also an equal amount of hope to be seen as well throughout the movie; the birds bond with the robots (especially the orange one), the bat during the trick or treating, the scrap yard's owner performing to cheer up his kid (albeit to Robot's detriment), and Rascal's connection with Robot.
It depicts life, with its ups and downs. it ends it off on a bittersweet, but still hopeful note, which is why I don't feel like it is *horrible* to show kids. Would I? Maybe not, but I do not think that it does the harm that you say it does
