    Doc, can you settle the argument of whether it's better to water (or not) potted plants before a freeze?I've heard people swear by both.

      It can't hurt. Water can freeze in the pot and act as an insulator. Also, you never want your plants completely dehydrated.

    And after your sprinkler or hand watering is done, remove the hose from the sillcock, or the hose's water freezing will send ice into the metal pipes supplying the outside faucet, which could burst them.
    Also, GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

      Yes, I probably should have included the unhook the hose part. Best of luck indeed.

    I’m in zone 8B and wondered when I should prune my blueberry bushes?

      Extension service suggests the following. "Prune blueberries anytime after harvest, but before August 1 to ensure flower buds will have time to mature before the onset of fall and winter."
      Blueberry flowers on old wood so pruning after late summer bud set for the next year would remove fruit.

    so what is "my area" ? That might not be relevant technically but it helps those of us who live in different regions and zones to consider how your info relates to our own forecasts.

      North Alabama. Zone 8a.

    I have a lot of large empty plant containers. Could I use them for my smaller plants, instead of 5 gallon buckets?

    • @Dr.Warren
      @Dr.Warren  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Yes, use them! They don't weigh much so put a brick or something similar on top so the container doesn't blow away.

    What's your thoughts on anti-desiccant spray on evergreens like holly in colder climates like zone 6 or colder where hard freeze is common place?

    • @Dr.Warren
      @Dr.Warren  Před 6 měsíci +1

      To my knowledge no one uses them this far south so my experience is very limited. Anti-desiccants can be a double edged sword. They can preserve moisture and keep a plant from drying out when it is extremely cold. But they do this by limiting transpiration. So if it gets warm and there is a ton of anti-desiccants spray on foliage you could cook your plants. They serve a purpose but I would be careful with using them.

      Thank you! I didn't know about the reverse effect when temps warm. Very helpful! 👍
