Andrew Devine was 22 years old during the Hillsborough disaster. He suffered severe and irreversible brain damage. After spending 6 weeks at intensive care unit at Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital and visiting several other specialists across the UK, he was returned home to be looked after by his family. Although he could not communicate and needed 24-hour personal care, he became well known among the fans and players of Liverpool fc. Hence, when Liverpool won the UCL in 2019 and players paraded through the city with an open top bus, one of the visits made by the team was into Devine's home. This was requested by the vice captain, James Milner. Devine was a life long Liverpool supporter who attended Liverpool matches even after the tragedy whenever possible. His brain damage and ultimate premature death was due to police gross negligence at Hillsborough in 1989. Disaster that will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace The 97. YNWA
Andrew Stanley Devine, the 97th victim of the 1989 Hillsborough Stadium disaster, was added to the Hillsborough memorial at Anfield today. Andrew suffered lasting brain damage on that tragic April day 32 years ago, and he sadly passed away as a result of those injuries last July at the age of 55. ❤Y.N.W.A.❤
sheffield wednesday fan here, (we play at hillsborough) i have 2 things to say: my dad was meant to be ball boy that game, but he was playing a really important game for Sheffield boys. secondly, one of my dads friends almost died
everton fan - may they all rest in peace, some things are bigger than football and despite me supporting a rival club, football doesn’t even come close to the importance of this disaster. Justice for the 97 🔵🤝🔴
I think people remember the incident it’s just that I don’t think Man Utd have the amount of people who died on the back of their shirts which was the point of this video
You didn't know, thats okay, all I ask from you, as I am a Liverpool fan, is just remember, that number on our shirt isn't just a number, those who died are people, both home and away fans, who died but loved the beautiful game, till their last moments
The fact is people still blame Sheffield Wednesday for that but no one wants to blame the fans for all crowding in especially the Liverpool fans who didn’t buy a ticket
Big crush at Hillsborough stadium because of poor officiating of where the fans were meant to come in, they made the stupid decision of opening the exit gate for everyone to come into instead of further delaying kickoff. The Leppings Lane end at Hillsborough used to be split into 3(?) pens where fans were supposed to be split evenly about them. Usually this isn’t an issue until mass amount of people all come in at once and put a crush on those who are stood towards the front. This is back when football games were all free standing so you can imagine how tightly packed in everyone is. As someone who’s been in that end since and as someone who occasionally goes to Hillsborough to watch the owls, thankfully it’s better now because of the seats, but our away end needs rebuilding, and the rest of the ground hasn’t changed much since unfortunately
@@dominickirkland2050Unruly fans put so much pressure on the gates, to stop the crush the police opened more gates and the fans pushing in at the back created a huge crush at the front. Such a sad situation and easily avoidable if some were to have listened.
