  • More than half of new prisoners only have primary school reading age ability. Pank Sethi became a literacy mentor for the Shannon Trust while serving a prison sentence in 2017, teaching reading and writing skills to fellow prisoners using their Turning Pages manuals.
The Shannon Trust partnered with the Yalla Cooperative, a group of web designers and developers co-founded by Joe Friel, to create a digital version of their training courses so that prisoners could continue their learning and mentoring once they leave prison.

The app launches this month as part of a £20 million funding drive towards tech solutions to help reduce re-offending and benefit society as a whole.
