Hi, I too belong to an IIT, first of all well done, good content. I totally agree to the things you said regarding placements. It varies with students, branches, for example design departments have very less placements even though designers are highly paid. So the scenario is pretty much correct.

Getting into Engineering college is easy (not about IIT) but passing out is difficult (for all engineering colleges including IIT and NIT). Getting into MBBS is difficult (not because of NEET is tough but because of less MBBS seats) but passing out is easy.

+2 ( biology) @ that time i thought maths & physics are base to study engineering but my brother in law was software architect. So as usual my parents encourage me to take computer science. Before that i saw only computer in internet cafe . Rest 4 years was horrible . Took another 3 years to clear back papers . Left 11 back papers out of 27 back papers.
In my opinion the engineering entrance process should in 2 numbers
One preliminary ( physics, maths , and chemistry
Then
Exam should be about different branches of engineering
If not there will be more unskilled engineers, since i struggled a lot in the field of IT , finally in the slot for 7 years

Availability of high quality, highly paying mech based jobs in pvt sector is very low. But if you are passionate about mechanical branch, then you can get a job even in prominent core companies like Airbus, Boeing , Mercedes etc
Second downside is that, you have to study a lot, in advance to get placed nowadays. Because, mechanical branch has developed sick high these days ..you won't be able to get into such high end companies just with btech raw knowledge.

Not really circuit branches- there are a lot of reasons - mostly I have seen in research students due to pressure on them for various reasons, there are love failures, other mental health reasons etc
