What could be better than a road trip through scenic locations? A road trip through scenic locations with a homemade rooftop tent, of course! A poor man´s intro to clamping!
I built a rooftop tent for my 1995 Volvo 850 out of simple materials and traveled 5700 km with it through Estonia, Finland, Norway, and Sweden.
If you are interested in more details or the CAD drawing please see the build article over at Instructables : (link available soon)

Excellent work!
the creativity! awesome!
Congratulations guys!
Pretty building and video.
Great video, nice editing, and very cool to find that someone has already done an idea I've been thinking about for a while down south in Australia. Commercial RTTs are overblown in cost when good quality regular tents are so much cheaper and you just need a platform to get them off the dirt. I'm hoping to come up with a much thinner profile, around 15cm or about 6 inches, closed. Must have been a great trip. Love that you did this for a wagon. Thanks so much for recording your efforts and sharing.
I am glad you enjoyed the project. 15 Cm overall thickness is achievable but you can only use a 2 inch mattress - maybe an inflatable one? 🙂
awesome video guys!
Круто! Уазик мелькнул на щаднем фоне 😮
Very well done!
Nice one! Thanks for sharing.

great job guys👍,you gave me an idea for next year
Nice work!
That's awesome!
Already done yours! I've used it in total for over 20 nights outside including a 10 day trip to Italy and it worked perfectly! I used your hinges and upgraded some parts for better mantainance. I loved the idea of the walls on the lower part and used it when it was too cold with a decathlon mini oven inside to keep me warm. Now I'm working on expanding this area and at the moment it looks great! Thank you!
I would love to see photos! 🙂
Can you share some photos? I am also very curious!
Thanks for your work!!
🙂
You are very clever, I enjoyed watching your build and am inspired!
I’m so glad I came across this video. I have the same tent but the 4 person size. I have been planning on doing this to a trailer. Thank you for the video!❤

I always thought of a foldable roof platform to just throw a Decathlon tent on top but this is ingenious! Thumbs up and greetings from Germany.
Danke! 😌
TÜV sagt nein :(
@@haihappenmoe5090 Gesicherte Ladung?
I mean, of course it's always windy here when you only visit the most windy places.
hahah😆
Nice build of course. Nifty table that.
I have never used roof tent, so the idea is a bit foreign for me.
Best solution I had when on the road was to sleep in the car. But I had a tent to put all the stuff in. In camp I put all the lugagge in the tent and there was lot of room in the car.
Maybe even quicker set up time.
Rooftent also takes more gas.
You are freaking genius
Hahha, thanks!😀
Cool !
Awesome.
Good job.. 👍
Excelente video y fácil de hacer sin gastar mucho dinero...
