This happened almost a year ago, but this is one of the coolest moments of my career still. Having a Hollywood Cinematographer comment on my recreation of The Batman and telling me what he did was super valuable! I had so much fun recreating this shot on a budget twice!
Crew:
Actress: Lily Bartels
Rylan (Ringo) McCoy
Paul Koning
MH Sterling
Tyler Darland
Mike Logan - Krátké a kreslené filmy
The former of trying, failing, trying, failing and trying again is an excellent narrative.
Many filmmakers only like to talk about when they succeed, you showcase what you learn.
That’s why you’re standing out.
Exactly
That’s soo true!
If at first you don’t succeed try and try again!!
As a wise man once said,
Listen to Hayden Hillier Smith.
The Adam Savage ethos in full effect
Talking only about the successes sounds stressful! I’m constantly failing😅 but that’s how one learns!
Thanks for the encouragement! Super excited to keep making CZcams videos!
Dude your videos are 10/10. I literally watch your videos before any shoot because it just gets my gears turning about how light works. So well made and HELPFUL. Ur a legend man!!!!!
Oh that’s so awesome!! Thank you! I’m glad the videos help!
Just from this video I mastered how to exactly light raindrops on windows
That was my intention!!
Damn, just goes to show how much work they put in such a stylized movie. Amazing job recreating it man.
Thanks to Greg!! We were beyond hyped when we actually figured it out
🤣🤣
Never felt the motivation to stay under the rain at night with a camera like right now.
The best nighttime shots are when it’s raining honestly!
Love seeing the problem-solving aspect of filmmaking. I know nothing myself but all the stories I hear about folks just trying to figure it out and finding a way to get the desired result is fascinating and makes the final product that much richer.
Awesome video! So cool that Greig actually commented and gave tips. I think the final recreation looks very similar, good job :)
Thank you! Yeah that was insane and extremely exciting! One of my career highlights so far for sure!
this is so useful, to actually see where you came up short really helps understand why they exposed the way they did and the role it played in the storytelling
You guys nailed it spot on second time around. I love that you’re showing us what you’re learning in real team.
I love the way you explain everything in details , it really helps me to understand lighting , keep up the good work brother
Brilliant video, William! Great pacing, insightful, fascinating ❤
Awesome stuff! This behind the scenes masterclass on lighting is so great!
a Master in the making! Awesome video man
It's the best shot recreation I ever saw. Lighting and Grading delivers original intentions on point!
After this video Spenser Sakurai stood off to the side, nervously chain-smoking and staring absent-mindedly into the distance
It's so inspiring ! Thank you very much it's incredible
If I’m being completely honest, I saw that as the solution in the beginning as soon as you said that was the issue. Needed to be lit from behind. I noticed that was the case when the original played. Good solution.
Really cool! Its that law of inverted distance, when its closer the falloff its way bigger so when you move further away the lights are equally distributed
This was some heat, really good job!
You are incredibly talented fr
After your analysis, it's so weird looking at the original shot and watching the soft key on Selina's face not move at all! I totally never noticed that, what a cool tricks you can get away with if people are too pre-occupied with the moving car etc.
This is so sick man! GREAT great job!
Inspiring! The journey of learning. Love it.
Wow, the amount of effort that goes into one shot is wild.
That’s insaneeeeee 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Brilliant Video!!!! Loved it...
liked your storytelling, great experience and video
Really great problem solving
This looks so unbelievably easy I can't believe you would even take the time to make a video about it
This is quite excellent!
You should be very proud of your work seriously, imagine that Greig Fraser himself
admire your work. Now I just hope to see you Cinematographically Directing a Music Video or something that makes you feel alive.
Congratulations hermano
He should direct Pink Floyed music videos.
Someday that would be really cool! So far though, I really love content creation! I get to try things and share it with people!
i love ur viedo edits, and music... its so good
Great editing
As a learner , ur videos help me wayy to better . Thanks a lot , keep growing 🥂
So glad I can help!!
one of the best channels on youtube.
Beautiful
Amazing!!
Wow man SHOW US THE FREAKING SHOT... It's like 1 second of result in the end
The fact that Greg Fraser actually reacted to your first run and proceeded to give free advice and information to aspiring filmmakers on how they actually did it is on a whole other level
Awesome job!!! 👍👍👍
Great job!!!
Awesome!
3:06 Rain drops light up when a backlit from a far away source, got it.
Great effort.....🔥🔥🔥🔥 The lighting re creation is 💥💥💥
That was impressive!
I think Greig Fraser would be one of the greatest cinematographers earth has ever witnessed.
good stuff!
you need 2 light sources, one brighter than the other, and at a 90 deg angle with the second. getting the water to move is also easy, you were right about Rain-X, but you only put it on the areas where you want water to move, for some reason a 2 inch swath of it on a pain of glass encourages large drops to funnel right down the middle.
Uhmm yeah the car aint moving thou😂😂😂
Very nice!
If I ever in a movie I want this guy to do the cinematography
Nice, but maybe the tiniest bit of camera shake might have given the illusion of the car moving
Perfectoooo 🎉
The first thing to come to mind is to set up two opposing projectors. The first projector would be set to project onto a front-projection screen, (to provide a dynamic background, behind the car). The second projector would be placed just outside the cameras’ pov, and aimed at the car window, (the footage projected should be flipped, whereas the second projector would be facing the opposite direction of the first one). In this way, the projected images would be dynamic & interactive, as well as providing proper refraction off the “rain”. Then, it should be an easy task of peppering in whatever additional lights you want to “season” the scene with.
Also, before adding additional lights, just for fill, why didn’t you try using a bounce reflector to her left? It seems like it would potentially be an easier & less expensive setup.
Thanks for awesome explanation and for this short and interesting video 🙏🏼🔥🔥
#rightpath
wow !
Fire video! 🔥🔥🔥 Now try recreating the matrix time freeze effect!
Oooo!! That would be fun! I’m writing that idea down!
Que usen una tira ld en una pelicula de tanto presupuesto es inspirador, no hay excusas para crear buenas imagenes. PD: Gran video, me he sentido tan identificado con tu Prueba/Error hasta conseguir la imagen deseada.
great video
I bet tomasso’s here thinking how silly it was printing a wall sized story screenshot
I was abt to comment push your backlight further away 🤣 you should do it this kinda tutorial live
Check out the opening scene of Wheelman (Frank Grillo).
epic
Im disappointed in my youtube suggested feed for only showing me you uploaded another video 4 DAYS LATER
I actually thought you were Peter France(Corridor Digital) 😂😂😂
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
would've been great if u guys shot it with the anamorphic lens.
😃 great more more more❤❤❤
Rain has to be backlit to be visible. That's why it's non existent on a cloud day.
Yeah rain when the sun is out is gorgeous!!
Great job.
Please tell me who designs and sets the lighting scheme in high-budget movies like Batman? Yes, I understand that gaffers do it, but what is the participation of the director of photography, who directs the orchestra?
Grt!
Hey great video!! Thanks for sharing this! Just so you know, I think you’re saying Greig Fraser’s last name wrong 😅
Anyway, keep up the awesome content!
noice camera
Feels like their key was probably less soft and less intensity.
Wow
Question the car looks static when you were filming it how did you give it the effect in post that made it look like it was moving?
Hey, I can't find a link in your video description, where the first shot is.
How can I find it?
awesome! but can you atleast show the result a bit more at the end...its too fast😅
Could you recreate a scene from Dumbo?
I just watched the Batman and before it I watched Oppenheimer..😅
Great work but it does make me wonder if you’ve ever sat in a car before 🤔
What lens did you use? How many mm? Wide angle? Etc
What camera are you using?
Which camera r u using?
I find the intricate details dumb but it’s a short 3 minute video ,for that I’ll take anything
Hello. I was wondering if you could like recreate Victoria Monet’s “Alright” visualiser. Like just the background. Plz😢
Really great stuff. Sorry to be a pedant, but “OUR’S” doesn’t have an apostrophe, it’s just “OURS”.
You should really upload all your videos in 1440p minimum CZcams allows 1440p or higher res videos way more bit-rate and they look much better for that reason.
or he couldve just drove the car
Honestly back lighting the droplets was the first thing I would have done, we would have had opposite problems 😅. I don't do film but I want to get into music recording on my other channel @amyszed.
