      Years later but it's insanely underrated. A top 10 SNES platformer. Right up there with any Wonder Boy game, and feels like an evolved Zelda 2.

      Has a pretty similar feel to the later Wonder Boy/Monster World titles. Very good indeed.

    Hell yes. I was skeptical of SAI II, when I first got it. I'm not the hugest Adventure Island guy... But man, once I sunk my teeth in, I just couldn't stop playing. Such a great game, reminds me of Zelda II so much, but is even better. Awesome video, once again!

    I think both games are worth playing, but for completely different reasons, Super Adventure Island is basically good'ol Adventure Island in 16 bit, and that's a good and welcome thing, (although I'm personally more partial towards New Adventure Island on the TurboGrafx-16) but Super Adventure Island 2 is on another ball park entirely, it's a completely different game, and worth playing for the adventure/exploration thing that it's got going on, I like to think of it as a "better Zelda 2" (and personally, I think it's got the best soundtrack in the series)

  • @SwiftSmashGamingZone

    The first SNES Super Adventure Island is worth playing even if just for the music and sounds effects alone - to be honest it just *SCREAMS* nostalgia!
    The 2nd one was well, like SNES drunk said, it's basically a hidden gem! 💎
    Thanks for all your hard-work on these videos SNES drunk, keep up the great work my friend!!!

      It is a brilliant soundtrack. The only reason it didn't get a lot of attention is that it was overshadowed greatly by the Streets of Rage games.

    in México we call it "capulinita" I guess is because of the actor Gaspar Henaine (Capulina) but in my childhood I use to call it that way. Also I met many people that call it like this. but in the deep I don´t know y you have any info about it.

      I actually think it has pretty decent replay value. It's one of those games that's tough the first time around especially because of the 1-hit death syndrome, but once you know what to do you can rip right through it.

    I really liked Super Adventure Island 1, I felt like it's simplicity along with it's colorful art had an artistic minimalist style that was beautiful. Also, I once play Adventure Island 4 (yes, it exists) and it was almost an action RPG.

    I have both games, and when I found SAI2 at a local game store years ago, I couldn't believe it. I love them both, but for very different reasons. Part 2 is the more substantial game, very pick up and play, but I find myself going back to 1 more often. Simple, straightforward, and that BOPPIN' soundtrack. I'd buy it on CD if I could.

    Adventure Island for the NES was my very first NES game. The 2 sequels on the NES were fantastic and a lot of fun. The first time I tried Super Adventure Island for the SNES, it was so bad I told myself the series was dead and never even tried Super Adventure Island 2. Looks like I need to go back and give it shot. Thanks for opening my eyes to this hidden gem!

    Adventure Island was a mainstay series among my family and I growing up, but hearing all about the Wonder Boy stuff really bothers me.. .not only is the first game a straight-up Wonder Boy unlicensed port almost comparable to a bootleg if it weren't made by the same dudes, but the final entries in the series, Adventure Island 4 and Super Adventure Island 2, even ripped off the later Wonder boys after that series veered off to differentiate itself. Or were they *all* made by the same team? It's weird. I just can't get over Master Higgins in that Wonder boy in Monster World style RPG getup in SAI2 though, it's so ridiculous lmao. Honestly though, 2-4 and Super 2 are all fantastic games imo.

    • @koopakape
      @koopakape Před 7 lety

      Yeah, I never even SAW this thing in any rental or retail store growing up. Only heard about it after emulation was rampant anyway. I might guess it was a mixture of it being such a niche, experimental type of game and dealing so much with evolution which was still quite a hot-button issue in America at the time, at least where I grew up. It's definitely a neat game, and one I'd recommend anyone give a shot if they can, but I wouldn't say it's worth more than 50 bucks or so at the absolute high end.

    The first Super Adventure Island's graphics honestly look kinda ugly to me. Was surprised to hear you describe it as looking better than the second one, to my eyes it's the other way around for sure.

    Super Adventure Island II is a good game, but it doesn't feel like an Adventure Island game, and I don't like the graphics and sound. It dissapoints me a ilttle. I would like if they could make in the SNes a game like Nes Adventure Island II or III with the Super Adventure Island 1 graphics and soundtrack. It could be just perfect game.
