The Sony Xperia 1 V is definitely the best choice for photography. The amount of control you have over the final resulting image is vastly superior to the other two devices. In the right hands it can easily beat the other two in most situations. Basic mode does have a tendency to overexpose, so I usually drop the exposure setting by 1-2 stops depending on the conditions.

@@user-qz7xx4ip2m well, all android phones that have Level 3 Camera API. And even shooting with RAW + JPEG on both, I still find Photography Pro results more pleasing (despite the noise). Gcam is a nice tool to have, but Photography Pro is also excellent. Their auto video tho, it sucks. I wish they could be at least up to some brands like OnePlus or even Xiaomi, since I don't always want to create or control smth like Cinema Pro or Video Pro. There's no alternative to that on the Sony. 10 bit HDR will have to do, and it does perfectly 90% of the times, so I won't complain. Would still get the Sony instead of any other device. Just wished they could have Level 3, improve the fp reader and kept the notification LED!

I shoot raw mostly with the S23 Ultra and edit in Lightroom. Far better than the iPhone due to the zoom capabilities. When the Xperia 1V was at our office for a short time for testing, I found it easier smoothing RAW on the Galaxy, rather than the Xperia. Sonys menu system can be cumbersome at times.

I think that the Xperia is going to be a good camera phone for more pro photographers. I've seen good results.. but only when taken in the pro or manual camera app and then retouched with another app. It's too complex for the standard point-and-shoot photographers out there. It's not that it's bad, but it's not going to be a consumer phone, more an entuthiast or pro mode. I'm just at the first video comparison, and the S23 is way better than the other two. It was weird because all I've heard that the iPhone is the video phone.

Idiots like me get confused by writing 1V because it looks like IV (Xperia 1 IV). I suggest using 1 V (1 space V).
Messing around with the sony camera settings is the best IMO. The basic mode is almost always mediocre, but playing with the settings is a lot of fun and has pretty great results sometimes.
I just shoot raw so I can play around with the settings in lightroom after taking photos. But no "normal" person would do that, and most people should just get either other phone if they want to take good pics.
IMO the iPhone is the best point-and-shoot camera, with the samsung being a very close second. The 1-V can have some shots that's better than both, but only if you're willing to invest the time.

So I recently bought an Xperia 1 III and I do have to say that I love the manual mode on the phone because it makes a lot of photos I take look like it was shot on a more "expensive'' phone/camera, but it does come at a cost of spending some time to get to know the phone itself in order to get the results I wanted (a little bit of vignetting and contrasty looking photos) compare to my Pixel 6 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max...I believe these Xperia's are for people that would like to "dial" in their preference on a phone. I have also had a few weeks to play with an S22 Ultra for a couple of months before I sold it and got the Xperia and I do love its Portrait mode but that shutter lag was really a big deal for me (the main reason I sold it) because I like take photos of my dog and it's almost impossible to catch the "right'' moment when all you do is hope the phone took a fast enough photo before the dog moves. One main thing I would love for Sony to add onto its previous generation Xperia 1's is the ability to record at 4K 60FPS with all 3 lenses because it's either 120 FPS with the main or 23.977 FPS at 4K on all sensors and it's very upsetting to know that there's no middle ground.

Dearest, your testing was the most honest. Cheers for that! This is a real proof that Xperia is much greater and a pioneer in its hardware department than any other, plus the freedom of the manual add or camera mod. If your Xperia was software upgraded, and was not a probe, then surely Sony will bring better. But as a Xperia 1mk4 user, I would ask you to check if the camera driver of the 1mk5 has issues with burned pixels at manual set: 64-200 ISO 1s shutter speed tested in dark for all three sensors but mostly for telephoto. Please answer here with a reply. Thank you greatly!

Xperia I have to say is the overall winner, Sony with all the manual options can really get the best realistic photos and video in my opinion. You just have to really get into the settings! I think your bias is showing on that dusk video footage shot at 60fps. Even at the correct shutter angle, the horizon was clearly blown out. Leaving it on auto would not have raised the foreground shadows to the extent the apple or Samsung did. As for the rest, the Apple, as usual, is crazy oversharpened - it isn't "more detailed".

There is one big problem with this comparison. Most SONY shots here are shot in manual mode while other are on auto mode. Basically what this is telling me is that SONY automatic mode is significantly under performing and cannot catch up to these two other phones. The issue is 95% of mobile phone users are using it for quick snap shot and not 15 minutes setting and 15 minute post processing for each photo. If we have to spend that much time i rather take my DSLR.

The point of the sony is the fact that it’s not a point and shoot camera while the others are.
The others basically do the adjustments for you whereas the sony is specifically designed for you to do it yourself. There’s no point in entertaining this video if you’re looking for a point and shoot. I have the iPhone 14 Pro and am swapping for this Sony for that fact alone. I can’t adjust my settings enough on the iPhone and carrying around my mirrorless and its many lenses and batteries isn’t practical all the time so the Sony is prefect for me.

All of this is better and not worse, at least if you like realistic photos. The autofocus is also significantly superior to any other smartphone, even in automatic mode.I just can't understand this discussion.I've had at least every year since the first Galaxy S1 one flagship per year, sometimes even several. No other device can do that. For me, Sony only does two things wrong.1. Software Support and 2. Marketing.

With Samsung you can also set something manually, but the possibilities here really cannot be compared It just works a lot better and easier with Sony, although it has a lot more options.I've owned almost every Galaxy S since the Galaxy S1. But last year I bought the Pro i and now I use the M or S mode 95% of the time With Samsung, on the other hand, this is rudimentary. Can't be compared. If you really want to take photos then buy a Sony.

I appreciate the feedback. I’ll put some thought into this.

And in manual every single shot was not only clearly better to my eye in resolving detail and natural color, but it can easily be edited to look like the others with a one click preset in snapseed if you wanted. Pretty impressive. Samsung clearly dominates the zoom though. lol. not even close.

Picture 1 shows the clear superiority of the Sony ethos, here. Check the foliage on the left. The Samsung does an awful job at rendering this. It's terrible. The Apple does a better job than the Sammy but it overshapens everything, giving a nast plastic edge to things.
The Sony's image is clean, well balanced and simply,... Nicer.
Why? Because Sony lets the HARDWARE do the heavy lifting. It doesn't need to overwork software to make it look good because the sensor and glass are superior.
Better hardware with light touch software will always deliver better results than AI. Every time.
