Chevy Equinox 2012 Radio Problem

- I detected that the Radio doesn't go to sleep so it could drain the battery.
I was driving listening to music on a USB, my phone was connected through Bluetooth. As I was waiting at a light, I played with the menus on the radio and click on something related to GPS and Bluetooth (I wanted to find out what that option was), the music stopped and the radio stopped responding. I stopped at a parking lot, turned off the car, remove the key, opened the door and the radio would not go to sleep.
I took a video when I got home (and after having dinner), later that night I went to check the car and noticed that the center stack backlight and the screen backlight were on.
I went to get my tools to remove the Radio fuse (to turn it off and avoid having a dead battery the next morning) but when I opened the passenger door, and I was reading the manual, the radio came on, a message related to Bluetooth came up and everything worked correctly afterwards.

My mother has the same car and had had similar problems but hers was the backup screen stayed on one time for a ling time. Then she had al the controls just stopped working like all of them like the radio was frozen none of the heat/ac worked nothing would do anything. We took it in they said they said we reset the system and it's working properly then about a week went by and the chevy like screen that comes up as you turn the car on was just up on the screen and literally it stayed like that nothing worked the backup camera didn't work nothing we took it back once again and they said they put in a whole new unit or radio in. But it's been about a year and the other day it did the thing again were none or the buttons were working including the hvac stuff Obviously there is an ongoing issue with these Chevy equinox vehicles radios at least the pioneer are ones that shouldn't be stuff like this happening
Sorry to hear that, in my case, I took it for an oil change and complained to the dealer and they reflashed it. Seems like it helped, I had it for 3yrs after that and I got rid of it.
Do anyone know about the Bluetooth disappearing I don't have my link so how can I update that or make the Bluetooth reappear and the USB won't even connect my phone to the car to play music.
Same thing happened to mine
My 2015 Equinox LS radio does the same thing. ( mine is the base radio, not the my link. ) I also noticed at night that the screen is lit up and the steering wheel controls and the window switches were lit up. I could also turn up the volume control and here the hum, with out the key in the ignition. When I turned on the headlight switch, ( still key off ) dash board lights did not come on. This morning when I went to start the engine, the battery was dead.We are still under warranty, (3100 miles ) so it is headed to the dealer. Said it may need a "re-flash" what ever that is. How did you make out with yours?Thanks for posting.
+Brad Davies later that night (when it was dark) I went to check the truck and noticed that the center stack and the screen backlight were on, even though I got the screen to show a blank screen previously. I didn't want to deal with a dead battery so I went to grab my tools to remove the radio fuse, when I came back (as if the truck knew what I was going to do lol) the radio popped up a message about Bluetooth (see my updated video description) and everything worked correctly. I have been too lazy to go to the dealer to report the issue, but I will definitely let them know when I go for an oil change next time. I'm actually a Software Engineer for an Automotive Supplier and I thought it would be a Software issue and maybe there is a software update that fixes the issue.
A "re-flash" means they will update to a newer software version that includes fixes or improvements to the software. I'm surprised that the issue is still there in a 2015 model year. If you want to verify that they actually updated the software, you can check the software version before and after taking it to the dealer (there is a screen in the radio settings that shows you the versions).
Let me know how it goes. I'm curious, were you using Bluetooth and/or USB that day?
+Esaias Pech car is back, dealer did an upgrade to the software, seems to be fine. I do use the blue tooth but no usb. I will check the screen to check the software version.Dealer did say if it happens again more in depth research may be needed.What happened to the simple am/fm with a cd player days? Oh well. Time to catch with the times!!
+Brad Davies I hope everything is solved, I yet have to take mine to the dealer to find out if there is a Sw Update.
I have a friend who has a car that is manual in everything (transmission, windows, locks, simple radio, etc) because he says that the more complex the system the more likely to fail is.
My 2015 Equinox was inspected this morning now later this evening I have no sound what so ever!!! I’m so angry right now
my 2010 does the same thing... only 1 station works
