This guy is probably the best guitar player I have seen in a long time. His tone control and phrasing are at an elite level.

I'm pretty sure that's my old ML 335, still sounds great, and glad to see it found a good home!

Gees the Murphy jumps out at 7.50 and after - that bridge pickup tone is awesome. Great guitar mate and killer playing as usual!

I ve had a 1999 Dot cherry red ES 335, I loved the neck (like a slim tapper) and the sound was great. I needed money at this time, when I sold it, but I regret this gear

Great analysis at the 11:00 mark; if you want the best guitar, skip the fancy nonsense, but if you want guitar+$2000 worth of artwork, then Murphy does a fine job with their paint technique.

Took me ages to identify, but I like the WAY that's played.

Thanks for the vid comparison. To me, the Murphy Lab sounds a bit like a single coils on steroids. Lower output than the Standard, which I prefer, particularly on the pushed trble pickup. Stunning top and back as well. Nice playing btw ;-)

I have the Murphy Lab Ultra Lite Aged 335 Cherry with Block Inlays. All the nitro is starting to flake off on the headstock.

The les Paul standard should be just that, but there are so many variations at various price points, so what exactly is a les Paul standard ?. Anything else should be some sort of custom version.

The 90’s pickups are hotter and rounder, but the tone is there. I think if you swapped the pickups with custombuckers, you’d be 99% of the way there

Murphy lab sounded better to me. I am more of a cleaner player so the unpotted custom buckers are more to my liking. Whether or not the hide glue, and long tenon and more accurate bridge also contribute to that idk. Great playing and demonstration! I do agree is it really 7k+ better? You can basically get there with the other 335 if you swap out the pickups.

The way I think about it, is the standard is a nice addition to the lineup of guitars you play. It can easily EQ the same in the studio if needed. But the Murphy lab is a guitar that just immediately becomes your #1 and other guitars you own aren’t top of mind outside of the studio. ML ES is Much more special feeling. Thats where the money goes, the intangibles become much more attainable on one if you can play like this guy. Totally worth it imo. Great playing btw mate.

So it falls to me to be the one to point out that this dude just played a Backstreet Boys song on his Gibson?! Part of me wants to give him shit, but another part of me respects the hell out of him because he played it so well. 😂 In all seriousness, it was a nice comparison video. Thanks for making it.

If you are really unhappy with this guitar and regret the purchase, just send it to me and I‘ll take care for disposal in line with environmental regulations. I don’t ask for money for doing you this favour. ;)
    (Great guitar playing!)
