I have used deep cycle batteries in my truck for many years. The last couple of times I have spent extra for AGM batteries. I have found that the extra expense is worth it. I typically get ,at least, four years of absolutely trouble,-free operation. I operate in extreme cold weather (well below zero Fahrenheit) and I sleep w/o idling using a bunk heater and they have not let me down. I buy them at Sam's Club. I glue the plastic caps to the lug terminals with silicone. The threaded posts are the same standard size.
You need anisolater switch open with key off to keep starting battery s out of circuit so deep cycle batteries run sleeper and apu loads so starter battery will be protected for starting I have eight deep cycle forkeyoff loads four regular for starting I can run rooftop AC for ten hours I cook with propane and have twelve volt fridge
I recharged my batteries on a Volvo that's been sitting for 3 years three of the four batteries would charge but so that's all I hooked up. When I went to start the truck that automatic transmission would light up but then would not show if it was in neutral or gear and on the dash it wouldn't show if it was in neutral or gear it was just blank. On the five smaller wires that go to the battery two from the transmission so the whites probably on the common side and the red or black is probably on the positive I got three more wires probably coming from the starter or ECM and they're white black and red I don't know if that black wire is supposed to be on the positive or the negative. Because after I changed them buttons I there's two or three fuses hang in there to separate the wiring from overload my 10 amp was blown the other two were good I replaced that fuse and when I hook everything back up I can't even get the transmission thing to light up anymore. But a couple weeks becomes 2 months later so maybe I just need to go get four new batteries. But do you know with the three wires which ones go positive and negative?
Thanks anyways. I'll go look at my other Volvo that I actually drive and take a pic. The wires in the front should be the same. Don't know if it has the other 2 wires being a manual 10speed.
Good stuff. Was looking for info about this setup. I have 4 batteries under the driver side and 4 batteries for electric apu that are located under the catwalk. Have an issue with APU shutting off. Thinking about changing just the 4 under the catwalk to deep cycle. Will all 8 work fine if 4 are deep cycle and 4 regular? Thank you
Would you consider buying a wireless mic? I sometimes find it hard to hear you when you are away from your cam.... Thanks for yet another interesting video, Chase 👍
Do you think just 4 deep cycle marine batteries would work instead of 8 I live in south Texas so it really does get to cold and my truck in a 1990 peterbilt with a big cam cummins
I'm not sure. I know 6 will cause I had 2 go bad and they were out of them so I just disconnected the 2 bad ones and I haven't gotten around to going back to get the other 2 yet. It turns over a little slower when it's cold outside though.
You’re making a whole bunch of mistakes! You’re gonna ruin your alternator and and those batteries! You needs battery charger dc to dc and an isolater !
I have the same similar situation I got 8 batteries 4 marine deepcycle 800 cca and 4 interstate 950 cca. I thought that the extra 4 batteries was only for the apu. Can I run them all 8 together?
I have no idea how your truck is setup. Some are separate I believe but mine is connected all together. You will have to trace your battery cables and figure out if they are all connected together. Mine just hast 2 cables that goes from passenger side to drivers side and ties them all together.

No I don't know, I usually take a picture before I remove them if I'm not sure.

I have ran some mixed with no issues. These electric apu isn't great in My opinion...
Can you please make a video on how to connects 8 batteries ?

How does the battery APU work can I just run eight batteries and run the system straight to the converter or is it a Control balance system
Mine is just straight off the 8 batteries, nothing fancy.
