    Now all you need to have is a fancy clutch spring tester to measure start and finish spring rates

    The second I saw the subtitle, I knew it was Dennis that put his sled in the cattails.

      Greg was the one that really sunk his sled in the cat tails.

    I didn't realize u guys were in a field, thought it was a lake until u said field... what a cool place to be able to open her up.. love watching ya do secondary by hand, old school..most now make or buy a tool, not nutter, he just grabs darn thing, twist and squeeze and tells ya to unbolt it!!!! Ty for video!! Made my morning coffee even better

    I immediately recognized that primary clutch.. Late in the winter of 1972, Skidoo had bought rights from Polaris to use them on certain high performance models.. I remember them being very susceptible to belt dust and required frequent cleaning...and this clutch became known as the orange clutch for pretty obvious reasons. 🤣

    Great video guys! Really like the info you shared on measuring the taper along with the "X" to ensure alignment when putting spring in! Thanks!!

    I recall one Christmas break in the early 80's, no snow except on the lake edges- my freinds had a wide track Evinrude that was the only thing that would blaze those trails in the cat tails! Until the air inlet got clogged with fluff. Had to stop and clear that on occasion.

    Love it....I miss my 84 indy triple...rippen flat out on a open Field

    Holy Cattails Batman! Lol. They’ve been known to swallow the odd sled now and then. That was funny! Your TXL sounds great! They’re such a good motor 👍
    Dennis’ TX seems fairly happy, but maybe a little groggy on the hole shot? Too much helix at the initial start maybe, or are you running the stock straight 34?
    I’m surprised about you not torquing the clutch 🤷🏼‍♂️ you’re usually pretty fussy about things. I agree though that I’ve never had one come off or slip either. As for the secondary, maybe you could do a demo on how much tension to use by using a fish scale? Some people may not know about that. I usually go between 7-12lbs depending on what I’m trying to do

      @nuttersspeedshop  Před rokem

      Thanks Rob. Dennis sled is pretty peppy off the line in person. I never use a fish scale on the secondary. I just go by feel. and then I drive it and see how it behaves.

    Interesting on the primary torque. I pull cluthes all the time to change weights for going out west and then back riding in Michigan. I have had mine slip before. I always clean the PTO shaft inside of clutch with a rag with some brake clean now and torque to 80ft/lbs like manual says. Then after runnning it I retorque. This is on an 800HO though.

    • @nuttersspeedshop
      @nuttersspeedshop  Před rokem

      Interesting, but these old sleds use a 7/16-20 grade 5 bolt. 40ft-lbs of torque. I've seen many people break them off from over torquing. Never seen one slip on these old sleds.

  • @happyindeed6392

    That clutch has way better component so should last forever on a low hp application like that.

  • @happyindeed6392
    @happyindeed6392 Před rokem

    Why could you not use the puller from the same masheen as what the clutch came from?

    • @nuttersspeedshop

      Not trying to be a smartass just for my own reference. I have the puller for the newer clutch so just wanted to know if i could use that. Dont have a lathe.

    • @nuttersspeedshop
      @nuttersspeedshop  Před rokem

      @@happyindeed6392 No worries. I don't know if the other puller would work right or not. I'm just showing the tried and true formula that I have been doing for years.
