  • We've got a ton of Sempervivum to be propagated in todays video. We will also be showing you how to make a great soil mixture to help these little guys thrive in the garden! While all of my other Sempervivum are growing outdoors at this point, we will be growing this new planter indoors to see just how much growth we can get out of these sempervivum under a grow light.

Love Hens and Chicks! Had some growing in a sunny corner of my home where the rain had a hard time reaching. It would stay bone dry there, unless there was torrential rain. Seemed to be the only perennial to really thrive there. Had them growing there for a little over 3 years before they started blooming. Unfortunately I didn't realize at the time the plants die after they bloom. They put so much energy into blooming, they all died. But thankfully I had collected MANY babies (chicks) and had them potted up and I used those to replace the dead ones. I have seen them sold as houseplants. At my local nursery I have identified Sempervivum being sold indoor amongst the other tender succulents. I have also had success growing them indoors myself year round. Thanks for the informative video! 🌿

It will be fun seeing the update. There are tons of nurseries and box stores around with tables full of them right now. Are they hardy over winter up here? I swear I remember them coming back year after year at my childhood home and just spreading like crazy.

I believe last year ripley and i talked about that, and yes they are, if im not crazy i think ripley has/had his outdoor collection planted in the ground though. I havent had the same luck but i figure maybe its because it was in a small pot. But im almost positive ripley has past videos about some of his earlier semp. Collection if u take a peek.

It sure will be!! Yes most varieties are hardy to zone 4 :) that's why I love them so much is because they just spread everywhere. I want a big carpet of them in the backyard!

Hope they have done well for you inside, i never have any luck with hens and chicks inside without amazing grow lights and a fan on them. Their leaves always turn down and they get distorted not to mention a major mealie bug attractor. Such pretty plants though, i need to find some gold nuggets and some greens.

I may have missed this part, but how long before you give the first watering? Thanks!

Doesn't matter, they could go three weeks without water or take watering the very same day 🌿
