01 Thiruppallandu - Avatharikai

திருப்பல்லாண்டு / "பல்லாண்டு பல்லாண்டு..." / மங்களாசாசனம் - விஷ்ணுசித்தராக இருந்த ஆழ்வாருக்கு பெரியாழ்வார் என்ற பெயர் பெற்றுக்கொடுத்த திவ்யபிரபந்தம்.
ஶ்ரீமந்நாராயணனே முழுமுதற்கடவுள் என்று அனைவருக்கும் வேத வாக்கியங்களைச் சொல்லி உணர்த்தி பட்டர்பிரான் என்று பெயர் பெற்ற ஆழ்வார், பிராட்டிகளுடன் பெருமானைத் தரிசித்த உடன் ஒரு தாயின் கருணையோடு பகவானும், தாயாரும், சங்கும், சக்கரமும் பல்லாயிரக்கணக்கான ஆண்டுகள் நன்றாக இருக்க வேண்டும், பகவானும் பக்தர்களான நாமும் பிரியாமல் எப்பொழுதும் சேர்ந்து இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று வாழ்த்தி பாடிய பிரபந்தம்தான் திருப்பல்லாண்டு.
பிரணவத்திற்கு சமமான பெருமை உடையது. வேதத்தின் தொடக்கத்திலும் முடிவிலும் ஹரி: ஓம் என்று சொல்வது போல் பிரபந்தம் ஓதுவதற்கு முன்பும் பின்பும் திருப்பல்லாண்டுதான் பாடப்படும்

Thiruppallandu/ "Pallandu Pallandu..."/ Benediction - Vishnu chitthar becomes 'Periyazhwar'
Upon proving that the path to moksha was through performing service to Perumal, Vishnuchitthar seated upon an elephant was greeted by the Lord and his consorts. Periyazhwar was so moved by the glorious sight and torn by a maternal instinct, he spontaneously started singing Pallandu, pallandu... blessing Perumal with long life by warding off any evil eye that might be cast on Him, just as a mother would for her darling son!! He thus became Periyazhwar or 'Elderly azhwar' for his benediction - The Thiruppallandu!
The Thiruppallandu has been accorded the status of the 'Pranavam' in the Vedas and is recited both at the beginning and end of Divya Prabandham Recitations for the same reason.
