The Lakers used to have elite shot blocking and elite perimeter defense and their perimeter defenders are not afraid to go into the oppossing perimeter players' bodies coz they know there's someone to cover for them when they got beat in the drive. This year's Lakers just failed to build up habits due to constant changes in the line up and you can tell there's not much trust on the defensive end when they go small coz their perimeter defenders are afraid to get blown by so they give space to the opposing perimeter players and they get burned by 3s constantly and their traditional centers (well, they got rid of DJ) aren't as quick on their feet so their opponents are also exploiting that mismatch on switches. I don't think AD coming back would make a difference anymore as again, they failed to build up habits on the defensive end.
