    I like the drone shots. I made my first kayak camping video and thought drone shots would be cool. Looks like a awesome trip. Thanks for sharing it with us. #swervycrew Ken

    Props to you! I know how hard that paddle is on Taylor Creek headed east. My partner and I have a tandem inflatable, put in at Curtis A Perry Park headed west around the tip of Rachel Carson Reserve, smooth sailing.... until it was time to head back. The way back east was SLOW going against that current. We were exhausted at the end of our 7 mile paddle! I'm looking forward to trying to get out to Shackleford Banks and doing some camping of our own. Where exactly did you put in at? I noticed the Duke Research Vesel... must've been at the far west end of Beaufort?

      Thanks! Learned my lesson going east on Taylor 😆. Next time, I’d try to cut thru Rachel Carson at high tide or go around on the south side. We were students at the Duke lab so we just put in at their dock. Radio Island beach access is also very close by. Thanks for watching!

      @@KastingwithKei funny you say that... cutting thru rachel carson at high tide was our original gameplan. We prob got 50 yards into the reserve and the water got so shallow that i had to get out of the kayak and push it back toward the river. I figured that might happen. However, I did not anticipate that the ground under the kayak was clam filled swamp muck that we sunk knee deep with every step. It was gross

      @gregorydavis6719 noted 😆 will not be attempting that

      @@KastingwithKei maybe your kayak would fair better than mine. I think my biggest mistake was not taking the skeg out before entering rachel carson.

    My wife and I are wanting to do this same trip as you guys did. How long did it take to paddle out to the island? And how long did it take to paddle back? Would it be possible to hammock camp on the island? TIA

    • @KastingwithKei
      @KastingwithKei  Před rokem +1

      Paddling to the island took about 4 hours because we were fighting the current in Taylor Creek from Beaufort (don’t recommend going this way). The way back only took about an hour and a half. There are plenty of trees for hammock camping on the island. Hope this helps and thanks for checking out the video!

      @@KastingwithKei Where would be a better place to put in for the trip out? We're from Ohio so we don't know that area very well.

      @@williamannick2734 Fellow Ohioan (Cincy) here too! There’s a boat access ramp (Curtis A Perry Park) on the eastern part of Taylor Creek that should be fine and Harkers Island if you’re over on that side.
