Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things, so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series. Many thanks, Vince. - Jak na to + styl
Finally some watch work again, thank you! You know, your channel was the first place I watched (pun intended) this kind of content and I now watch a lot of other watch channels -- and that's the nice thing about being a generalist fixer like yourself: you open a whole lot of new types of content that I can find on other channels, and that's part of how brilliant your content is!
By the way the Sicura is really nice indeed, but the movement on the Bulova is something else, so mesmerizing!
Thanks Felipe!!!! I would like to buy another faulty Bulova to see if it has an electrical fault rather than a mechanical one. Looks like an amazing piece of engineering and still very accurate all these years later 👍👍👍
Hi
Lovely looking watches and a great video, Vince! I nearly bought a few watches the other day, but I didn't want to have so much time on my hands. 😁
🤣🤣👍
That Bulova is amazing. The other one needs a complete service, it can run great but it needs a full clean and re-lube, it's irregular because of the dried oils and gunk inside. There is no way around this.
Hi Vince, I can help with a few things:
To remove the Sicura case back "correctly" it needs a special die. It looks similar to the case backs still used in current day Breitling - There's a set of about 14 different size dies to cover all of their models. You can also use a rubber ball if the back isn't on super tight, or there are case opening "suction grip" dies. I'm impressed it came off like that with the jaxa tool!
The shock resistant setting you highlight on the Omega is called incabloc and it's one of if not the most popular forms of shock setting. They make the life of a watchmaker much easier when it comes to oiling the balance jewels. The type of shock protection on the donor watch looks like it's a style of kif system. There are so many types of shock resistant settings! Fitting a shock protected balance assembly into a non-shock protected movement won't work properly. As you point out, it's very easy for a balance staff to break without shock protection.
To get the Sicura running well it looks like it needs a complete strip down & service - ideally you want a nice clean line across your timegrapher, though you probably know that already :-)
R.e. The Accutron - so Bulova say, they beat at 360Hz - so that compares to high beat mechanical watches which beat at 5Hz! They're nice movements and very collectible.
Anyway, Great video as ever - it's always fun to see you looking at some watches! Cheers!
Thank you for the great info Howlin Dan 👍👍👍👍👍
Mate no warning to me you were posting a watch video!
I’m right on this one !
🤣🤣🤣 Sorry it wasn't a fix Mike, got my eyes on another faulty Bulova Accutron, so hopefully if I win I can get stuck into that one.
Oh I'm so excited Vince! Was just missing your watch "trying to repair" videos. I just bought a mechanical auto winding watch as faulty on ebay. Excited to give it a go!
Really nice information.
Never tried to fix a older style watch , just fixed the electronic ones.
keep up the good work Vince
Top tip with casebacks, if its so locked up you can't move it with tools, simply using a good wodge of super glue superglue a large flat nut to the caseback and allow to harden, when cured just put the case in a holder or some sort of soft protected vice and use a wrench to undo the nut. When the caseback is off soak the case back and nut in acetone which dissolves the superglue and job done.
The thought of the orientation of a watch relating to the time keeping of the actual timepiece never ever occurred to me, I'll keep this in mind.
Another great video our mate Vince.
Thanks 👍🏻
Hi Vince
Love watching your videos
I found my first broken trace today and fixed my broken dewalt site radio thanks to watching your videos couldn’t believe it when it started working. Thanks for all your help.
Great and enjoyable video Vince, I've started collecting watches, just over 2 years ago now, never been inside a watch before then. Still learning and really enjoying watches.
many thanks To Fu, from Sweden
Great job Vince =D Amazing how quick you homed in on that missing pivot point!
I really like the watch videos once in a while. Very interesting! Thanks Vince.
Hello! I’ve watched so many of your foreign disc vids and other disc vids. I really like your work ;) meow!
I really enjoyed this one.. I'm not really into watches, but seeing the insides fascinate me. Good work buddy!
I highly enjoy your watch videos. Thanks for the great content!
Very interesting, never seen a watch be adjusted internally, learned something new. Your Omega looks a nice watch mate!
thanks for the video Vince.
i learned more about watches than i ever knew. Thank you very much Vince
"Like a little kid in a swing and that's the parent pushing them". A brilliant way to explain that!
I love it when you do clockwork devices. It was pretty neat to see that even though it wasnt keeping time, swapping the balance from one watch to another worked - I didn't think it would run at all. Oh and a face reveal!
Trade name for shock proofing of jeweled bearings was 'Incabloc' which was marked on many Swiss watches.
That Sicura looked lovely.
Vince - I'd say that a NATO strap would look very handsome with the Sicura piece. Great video - I'm a sucker for a Bulova - some of my favorite pieces are Bulova...
great video :) excellent fixes great to see the movement on both watches :) not really my thing to watch these type but find myself watching them all the time :) pun intended :)
how crazy is that, Im 49, your watch certainly looks better than me
I really enjoyed your wach video I found it very interesting!!!
Grat job. Nice watch you got yours there.
Lovely video Vince ,thank you
Amazing so enjoy your videos 📹 please keep them coming 🙏 and here to help get your videos 📹 out to everyone 😀 😊 😄
This was great Vince
A rubber ball can be used to unscrew the back case from some watches.
Mike of course is your man with Accutron's all day long, btw if you fancy a change in watchery, I just bought the Lorus Y676c Automatic and its just lovely, the Y676 is a Sii 7S26C and superb workhorse. I also bought this week a Lorus Fusion Kinetic with the "star trek-esque" case, just waiting on a new capacitor from Cousins which cost £6 and that too will be a wearer :)
Mike is the man. He sent me over his Bulova Accutron playlist so I can have a good watch...Boom boom. The Lorus Y676 has some nice looking watches. Congrats Ian 👍👍👍
Nice watches :) I really should get back into changing my broken Casio digital watch strap. Previous attempt failed as the pins weren't compatible with new strap, even it was supposedly an original Casio part. Just need to find compatible set of pins and see if the strap I tried to install is still ok :P
Keep making the great content!
Been a while since the last Vince watch!
Great video
"I would wear it all day," fades into distant echo as he sees balance. "It's broken."
Love your watch videos 👍
i find it intresting that some mechanical watches have features outside of just the time (such as showing the date)
athough in terms of using a watch, i much prefer digital ones (until recently i had a digital watch which had quite a few features, it displayed the day of the week and the date (to get the month a button had to be held in), it also had a stopwatch, an alarm clock, a countdown timer, and even a second time zone (the second time zone could only be set with the minuites either the same as the main time zone, or 30 minuites off from the main time zone), i find it a bit of a shame that the strap on it broke (the strap was made out of some sort of rubber like material)
I love the watch vids so interesting
My dad 7sed to repair watches and clock as a side business in the 60s and 70s. Timing equivalent was way too expensive back then it was normal to be out by a few minutes a day, never a problem, just set it when you wind it. Even new watches could be out by a minute 9r 2. He used to regulate them and aim bet 0 and +3m per day. So you got that probablybetter than new.,
Nice Omega Speedmaster ...
Quartz crystals are also a tunning fork shape piece of quartz encapsulated in a metal cylinder.
Wow :)
I just wish it. Was a one where you'd have to spin the back thing so that I can fix mine :)
Love this video I love watches too far to many in my home
I am no expert but doesn't the movement of the first watch need to be completely disassembled, cleaned and lubricated?
How did you get the stem out of the Sicura? Is there a lever or does it simply unscrew? I have a similar one that i want to swap the movenement. Thanks
Good effort dude but you should have applied watch oil to the jewls before tuning it
@4:58 - That scalloped shape - That would be called "crenulated" as in "having an irregularly wavy or serrate outline"
Damn I actually have a few vintage watches im looking at getting rid of, if you want them
Odd that the watch has 2 markers for Delhi and Calcutta.. Wonder if some old history I am missing..
Nothing I could find.. I wonder if you are supposed to count it as the point inbetween :D
Context: Both same timezone, but the offset is 5:30 so not as clean as the others.
Cheers Karthik. Yes that is strange. Maybe like you say it is to be read as in between???? On Wiki it does state that "Calcutta Time remained in effect until 1948 when it was abandoned in favour of IST" but this watch was over 24 years after that. I suppose the fact that it is a part hour and not a full hour puts the bezel out, and looks wise it wouldn't look as symmetrical with a marking inbetween the hours. Very confusing though for someone unaware of the time difference. 👍
Hello Vince i have a sony bravia tv what he stop working in one day how can i get in touch with you probably you can fix it thank you!!
To be honest I think someone swapped the movement and the previous owner didn't know it. Now I wish you had a shot with mine because mine truly doesn't work.
15:05 Can That top jewel be adjusted down to the balance? Looks like a micro spanner wrench holes in it.
A certain Mr Bolton will definitely be watching this.
Hahaha, most definitely!
Great ! Take a look at this guy if you didnt see him before , Nekkid Watchmaker
Learn so much from your videos. However, NEVER polish anything on a watch, other than the crystal. All you need are cotton tipped buds, the micro ones are best. Get one of those foam dispenser watch cleaners. Put some foam on watch, soaked cotton bud to get wet, then gently rub it over watch. When bud gets dirty, time for a new bud. Again wet bud before starting to wipe again. By keeping watch surface slightly wet, continued gently wiping action of a wet bud tip, will transfer dirt from watch to bud, with no scratching. It takes time. By keeping watch wet with foam, dirt and debris are suspended in moisture, and its no where near as abrasive. I can get a watch cleaner than ultrasonic this way, but it takes time. The watch ends up so clean, and facets, lines and all, remain crisp and fresh. The shine/cleanliness often overwhelms the appearance of fine scratches. Laborious, and you do it very gently, but results are oustanding.
Why not send the part to Mark who repairs them and ask him to fit a part for you ?
Hello from Serbia! Also how much is shipping from Serbia to you for that watch ? I love your vids
@6:39 - that strikes me as a watch with a terrible or worn seal worn by a person that rarely took the watch off and likely showered infrequently.
Im surprised that Sicura didn't have shock protection already. They went to the trouble of putting in 23 jewels, you'd think they'd put in an incabloc spring or two.
Ooh its vince time "if vince cant fix then it probably cant be fixed at all!"
Hey Vince I have a little lighter watch I’d like to send to you how can we do that
What will happen to this watch
Will it get sold?
Disclosure - I am a total amateur. That stepping on the timegrapher is probably caused by grot in between the jewel and the capstone on top of the balance. I did one where the timegrapher looked a lot like that this week You need to split them, clean them, oil them with 9010 and put them back together. I would use the first movement as a practice movement. Take it apart, clean it, and oil it many times. It doesn't matter if you break it. That's how I learnt to get tricky train bridges and things back on without it taking 2 hours or snapping a pivot on a wheel. Alternatively you can sell each part for a few quid. Second thing. You can get a mechanical watch to sweep like that - Have a look at Grand Seiko spring drives. Very exy but possible
like everyone else its to see if you can fix it thats the fun part
"It's a shame it's working" MM Vince 2021
some people use a rubber ball to open the case ..
ihad one..the leather strap rotted and i lost it..
Hello Vince would you be interested in doing a battery change on a fossil digital smart watch . As mine has packed up. It might be of interest to your subscribers as a tea time repair. Let me know.
"Is that in French? I thought it was Swiss..."
As in one of the official languages of the country?
Tokyo is misspelled on the watch, its spelled "tokio" on there
Why Bulova have IIII for 4 instead of IV?
All traditional clocks and watches use IIII rather than IV. Don't know why.
23:02 that’s what she said
Did anyone else notice on the Sicura watch that Tokyo is spelled as Tokio?
going to 5 to 31 its quicker to go backwards anyway
what happened to the popeye watch vince.
Trying. To. Fix. Lovely. 1970. Watches from eBay. Sicura. And. Bulova okay 👍
Likes are more than views
That watch looks like it was in a lake for a bit and someone found it while diving
Sneaky Omega photo bomb? Sneaky Sneaky.
🤣🤣👍
Hi Vice when you gonna do a vid of your watch collection. I always try and see what watch your wearing on your fix it vids.
If you’re going to continue to buy used automatic watches you really need to tear them down properly and clean them correctly because a lot of times thes mechanical watches stop working due to being very dirty and the oils have dried up and thickened causing the movement to slow or stop. Without knowing how to properly service these watches chances are you’re going to do more damage than good also there’s tons of great videos on CZcams showing how to service automatic watches.
Vince can you show how to charge a wired conttoller with the nintendo switch lite pls
