Very good analysis. Frollo is the most realistic villain in the Disney Canon. What makes it sad is that today, we are surrounded by Frollos. Politicians, leaders, CEOs and basically anyone with some form of power are basically Frollo incarnate.

There are many Disney films during the 80s and 90s that are perhaps the best of Disney's attempt to aim for an older audience while still being ok for the kids and parents. But if the Disney animators wanted to aim higher, they could have done that if only they were not stuck with Disney with their aim to please every audience, or the widest audience possible. Hunchback of Notre Dame is perhaps one of the examples of a Disney film aimed for an older audience at least that was what the animators were trying to do at that time.

Absolutely 100% agreed. The dark subject matter in HOND makes it the darkest Disney movie because it is REALISTIC, and not fantasy. Also the first (and only) Disney animation that acknowledges sexual lust

I was weirded out by Frollo, and the reason for his obsession with Esmeralda REALLY flew way over my head back then. I saw it again when I was much older, and I was like "holy hell Disney", so much hidden innuendo and dark truths about humanity as a whole. HOND is now easily one of my favourite Disney movies because I can now understand the hidden messages in it.
Haha, my experience was very similar! I remember rewatching just the opening and thinking, man, this movie is intense. I think the musical score adds so much weight to the film as well. I honestly wish Disney had made more animations like this one, that weren't afraid to portray humanity in a realistic way. HoND has definitely become one of my favorites as well!

But generally, Disney has made a few darker movies like the black cauldron and Pocahontas, and just like Hunchback unfortunately they weren't a huge success But I get it, they're really just for kids now with all the colourful and cute imagery.
I agree with you. They had some pretty dark movies in the past. And not just stylistically, but also the content they portrayed. Pocahontas is a great example. There are some pretty heavy themes in that movie, too. The poor kids these days don't know what they're missing, haha.

"The Brave Little Toaster" takes the cake for me for darkest Disney movie, i've only watched it as an adult and only the first movie but that movie was messed up. I later found out it was originally supposed to be an adult movie then Disney took over and made it into a childrens movie, albeit with a dark subtext of abandonment, obsolescence, and loneliness.
I had no idea about the Brave Little Toaster! It is definitely a dark movie. I need to watch it again, it's been a while since I've seen it. Honestly, I think that story would make for a great video! Haha, thanks for the idea!

It's so sad to hear about the systems they had in place, especially since they targeted children. I read that kids in those establishments were more likely to be killed than Canadian troops during WWII.
This one is top tier list for me but Soul is my number one ,The fact that a movie with the theme,, live your life because you don't know when it is gona end,, is called a childrens movie even the humor is pretty vague for kids i mean if i ask a ten year old on the street hwo is Mother Terressa i don't think he will know . The fact that in the end Joe accepted his death ... Even if he didn't die he is tehnicaly a human hwo died two times an the fact that almost all of the caracters are black just ads a new plot to the story so ,even if Frollo is the best and scariest villan the true villan is life itself because you have just one.

@@DrewMalou there are many dark parts about it but the most dark part of the movie is when the children turn into donkeys because of the island or curse or something and you see them suffering for help but that’s not all. The coachman rips the donkeys clothing off and kicked it to the sold create and he says “you will make a nice rug come on next” then the next donkey appear and the donkey which was a boy said “I want to go home to my mama” and the coachman throws him into a bunch full of them and they say “I don’t want to be a donkey let me out of..”, the coachman says “quiet you boys have had your fan now pay for it!”. The Worst part is that the coachman gets away with it. There’s also another character That got away which is honest John and Gideon but those are punished in the original book but in the movie no. The coachman iconic well idk if it is is “they’ll never come back as boys” with that devilish face he does. There’s more but is very dark that it could get in my head if I say more about it. Sorry for inconvenience.

If you burn yourself badly when you're a kid, you will feel weird around fire, if you almost drown, same with water. 1. I used the term "gypsy" because that's what the movie calls them. Their ethnicity is never directly stated in the film.
2. Yes! I left out many genocides because of either a lack of footage or lack of time. Wish I could highlight all of them and bring equal attention to them all!
3. I believe the intro warning is stated clearly and is sufficient, but I understand why you would want this.

@@DrewMalou Disney is notoriously immoral so I would hesitate to use and believe anything from a megacorporation’s movie from the 90’s. I believe that’s pushing it. Trigger warnings are not made for you, they are for people who are unfortunately affected by certain images. If you burn yourself badly when you're a kid, you will feel weird around fire, if you almost drown, same with water. We're animals, and we have certain mechanisms to react to certain stimuli, and it's especially strong with things we assosiate with danger. Having trigger warnings is simply being understanding towards people who, unfortunately, went through something horrific. And you can't deny that there are many awful things happening in the world, can you?

What is a genocide
Merriam Websters dictionary defines it as: the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group.
I would add 'religious' to that list as well.

Still haven't seen that movie, so I can't speak to it exactly, but if they're killing machines, it's not exactly a genocide. Just like if you were to eradicate an ants nest or a yellow jacket hive, it wouldn't be considered a genocide. Hope that makes sense!
