About the Roland MC-707...
The MC-707’s eight-track sequencer is made for today's electronic-focused music styles and ever-evolving subgenres. The TR-REC step sequencer is just like those found on classic Roland drum machines, perfect for building rhythm parts quickly. There are also 16 ultra-sensitive pads for playing or sequencing drum parts, melodic basslines, or polyphonic chord progressions.
The MC-707 features our latest sound engine, which fuses virtual analog and modern PCM. It’s flexible, powerful, and lets you dig deep into its sonic capabilities. It has the sounds of legendary Roland rhythm machines and synthesizers that are the foundation of electronic music-including the TR-808, TR-909, TB-303, JUNO-106, and SH-101. But the MC-707 also looks forward, with modern digital and hybrid sounds perfect for creating future classics-today.
In addition to its deep synthesis engine, the MC-707 has a powerful sampler with on-the-fly recording that synchronizes to your project's tempo and works as an expandable platform that never gets stale. Keep things fresh with new loops, one-shots, phrases, and synth sounds-all available online.

thanks for that Mark!
Thank you. They should add these to the actual video.
THANK YOU!
This is how a video manual should be done. I would understand so much other gear if they had presentations like this. Great job Roland!!!
These video manuals are absolutely excellent. Roland should do this (with this host) across all new releases. So simple, coherent and easy to follow. Love it.
O l you got o I’ll
Ll
Congrats, Roland. I'm very happy with your support and great updates. A request : longer sample looping recording, please.
This guy is a human encyclopedia of the device..
Roland video manuals are always such a time capsule of the vibe of the era.
The presenter is awesome. Many complicated features explained easily. Thanks!
Bless me with your knowledge, Senor Groovebox
With Firmware 1.30 now this machine just got a whole lot better👌 Thank you, Roland 🙏
Dustin Good always Illustrate the Roland products very nicely. He’s very clear and informative makes you want to buy the product and use it
Thank you doesn’t begin to express my appreciation. This device is a beast and i just finished part 1.
Beast of a Groove box
All three parts of this tutorial are fantastic, I have been daunted by learning this device for some time for no reason, the tutorials helped me fully breakdown the device in a matter of days, Which is quick for me.
::: A deeply beautiful machine ::: The video manual is such a good idea ::: Thank you :::
More companies should do this. Well done Roland. 👏👏👏
Amazing video! Thank you very much! I just got my 707 a week ago and was up and running in no time thanks to this first video! Will continue watching the rest of the series. Cheers!
I appreciate the intro. It's a slow start for me with the MC 707 but I've seen what this thing can do and can't wait to dig in.
Roland, please add a 'Undo' function in the next firmware update.
QUOTE
yes please
This comment put a screeching halt to my desire to buy this. Can’t believe I didn’t notice Roland overlooked that. Wow
Agree, massive overlooking in terms of workflow 😱
Just_Pierre yes please
This is a great tutorial series. Much appreciated.
Incredibly deep machine, so much power.
Have you checked out the Synthstrom Deluge?
@@DavidDeLuge no, only Sandstorm Darude
@@simonenligne 🤣😂
Thank you Roland!
I've been going back and forth between an mpc live or a MC 707. This video right here is really convincing me the MC 707 will be perfect for my workflow...
IMO mpc live is more daw-like station. But this device has more hardware feel to it, and even more features than any ordinary DAW without VSTs that cost like a month rent :D
This video is absolutely amazing! The guy explains things so thoroughly, clear and consistently relevant to the categories.
this is the best manual of any product ever
Very well done. Helped me a lot. Instructor did a great job. Thanks Roland.
Roland, please make an export of a project in Ableton format to a card. Even korg electribe has it and it makes a huge difference in workflow. This way you can generate ideas on mc-707 and then finish them in Ableton - makes sense
Thanks Roland. Well done.
Please please please Roland do not abandon the 707! This thing is the best music making device I've ever owned.
Are they abandoning it? I bought it a week ago and it seems last update was in 2023. As I see it device is packed with features and can be a start-finish music production station for another 15+ years. I mean some people still making good music with Reason 5.0 software (without vst support) :D
This may be the best bang for your buck with the new update Im hearing about. I may buy this because I don't feel like blowing a grand on a beat station.
Best videomanual ever!
thank you Roland.. this is an excellent tutorial.
Cool! Good work 👍
Thank you. Excellent tutorial.
⚡️#1 Needed Update: Probability settings. Every groovebox these days has this as a basic function. 🔥#2 1/1, 1/2, 1/4 resolution.
big thanks for the tutorial. it's really an amazing machine
This thing is way deeper than it looks
#mc707
Just thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you very much !
That chord feature is great but it would be great to be able to just input chords with more than 4 notes, directly from playing a Midi keyboard.
Please, make a full video manual for TR-8S too!
This video covers a lot of ground and is very helpful, I couldn't even face reading the manual as too basic for such a complex device, the firmware updates are also most appreciated. The other things I would like to see are when choosing a preset not having to press enter to retain settings, program change from a midi device, undo function and a pc editor with patch library sharing.
Still rocking the Mv 8000
these videos are more up to date than the manual, can you add more of these videos for the new functions and maybe even a deeper dive into the drum and sound editing with choosing multiple sounds per pad and using the matrix with the syscontrols please. or update the manual witht he new functions and more information about how to edit the sound. thx
Great info thanks, this is one powerful machine, get this and a keyboard/controller an suddenly many other devices look redundant"
Roland this machine has great sounds but please in 1.4
1. Editing multiple pressed steps , velocity mute etc
2. Implement value acceleration on knobs , holding the shift key is not sufficient for some frequency parameters , and it occupies whole left hand
3. If you like "winxp" style dialog boxes to prevent accidental delete or overwriting clips etc... at least assign "cancel" , "yes" "no" function to c1/c2/c3 or c4 knob push function
Totally agree, mostly woth the shift function, in live performances is impossible to use 3 hands.
Just got the machine, so the video manuals are a blessing.
As for chopping breaks: glad the option is there, but would love to be able to assign a chopped up sample to 1 pad and then lock the different parts in the sequencer (p-lock slice 1 on step 1, slice 6 on step 3, slice 2 on step 7 etc.
Good tutorial...thx
Very nice
very useful!
Around 28:00 - sus chords are suspended chords, not sustained chords. 3rd is replaced with a 4th (usually).
brilliant, one of tr8s and mx1 joining with all airas and compatible products.
Mine arrives next week 😁😄
Good video. It helped me get familiar with core functionality. It also makes me wish we could get unquantized recording, or at least trigger start time changes for the TR8S.
FYI, there were no samples on the factory card that shipped in my MC 707. When I registered my unit with Roland, though, they sent an email with a coupon code for a large pack of samples (3000 samples) from Noiiz.
Could you share them 🙈🙈🙈🙈
Omg that's awesome! We're they any good??
One request- more audio time per project.
Very handy this...
Hey Roland. How about developing a iOS/Mac/pc sample editor! Would make cutting up fiddly samples easier.
Amen
You could add this feature to Zenbeats
Great videos, thank you, really helps. Rg the unit - pls add UNDO and SONG MODE
Great video. Thank you Roland for this realy great groovebox
This exists for 1 step. Select the step, FUNC+up is copy; select the destination step, FUNC+down is paste.
@@allanlong9832 Thank you so much. 🙏
hello
here my little list...
bugs:
-SEL + push C3&C4 knob triggers extra action
if in main menu
i press&hold SEL button to use with C knobs to change LEV,PAN,DEL,REV
and if i press C4 knob in order to get X10 values for REVERB ,it will engage CLIP menu
and
if i press C3 knob in order to get X10 values for DELAY, it will change CLIP LINE according to current track nearest CLIP,
i think C3 and C4 knobs they should not do that when SEL button is held.
-when holding MASTER DELAY button and switching parameter with FX PRM or FX DEPTH from Delay Note to Delay Msec,it does not switch automaticaly Delay Sync SW to give control
over to selected parameter
-Master Delay Sync SW
empty project
1.SHIFT + DELAY button
2.FX PRM controls Delay Note
3.set Delay Sync SW to Off
4.FX PRM knob still controls Delay Note
5.change to T-CTRL Delay and back to Delay
6.now FX PRM knob controls Delay Msec
i think that should be switch immidiately after changing Sync Sw right?
maybe this and previous points are related.
-CLIP ROW change, wrong step buttons colors czcams.com/users/shortsS3fWcHDEiqY?feature=share
-CLIP copy without MSB and LSB
-DRUM TRACK SEQUENCE PADS DO NOT BLINK ALWAYS AND ALSO NOT IMIIDIATELY BUT WITH STRANGE LAG
requests:
-sample purge of unused samples!PLEASE....!
-Track Auto Select mode ,when moving pot or fader automaticaly switch to coresponding track
-exit Demo mode when midi start/stop is received
- MOTION OFF to recall current state of [FILTER] knob, [MOD] knob, [FX] knob
-SHIFT + MOTION ON(ERASE) without prompting. please, just like CLEAR + SEL ,make it simple to keep the flow.please
-LOOPER track ,ability to re record the LOOPER CLIP ,no prompts ,just press REC and it is re recording the loop ,so settings of Pitch/Stretch,Stretch Window,Reverse, and all KNOB ASSING to remain,
this could give nice touch to this feature, you could just re record loop and play with pre configured LOOPER parameters
please this is also important since it does not give free flow of reacting with machine when you have to do it all over again every new loop clip
thanks,bests

Brilliant
How do you set your count in if I want a 1 or 2 bar count im before realtime recording???
There is no count in option unfortunately. I am in the same boat as you I like realtime recording. I just wait for the clip to play through once while the metronome is clicking and then I come in on the one. I set the clip on stay that way it looks around again, hope that helps. They released this mc 707 in beta stage there are still some left standard things it can't do. Like it can only record 8 bars before the recorder stops! That is rediculous!
There is a count in. In version 1.72 there is at least. Shift+’knob assign’ and then in settings. You can set count from 1 step to 128. Super flexible.
Maybe a stupid question but i cant find how to use the tie function.. And no where how to record a simple pitchbend from an external keyboard. Guess in the motion seq bit cant get it to work.. And even in this update no count in pre count in midi mode. Cant believe that something simple like a pre-count is missing. Everybody is so happy with the arp in 1.60.. but so much simple stuff is missing. Im almost at the point of selling the 707. Hope a new update is comming soon.
And in case you're wondering why with Firmware 1.81 your external MIDI gear doesn't do bank changes properly: When you're in the clip's MIDI settings tab and set MSB and LSB, then press ENTER on the program change number, everything works fine. The trouble is that when the clip is played, it sends the MSB as the LSB and the LSB as the MSB so it doesn't work. You can decide: Either it works in the MIDI tab, OR it works when you play back the clip. Yes, you need to enter whatever the MSB is in the LSB field and whatever the LSB is in the MSB field and THEN it'll work, you get a bank change when the clip starts playing. Dear Roland, it's just a tad bit embarrassing, but please figure this one out. Sadly there's no backwards-compatible fix for a SNAFU like that, but it should still be fixed even if those of us who figured it out then have to change our projects again. 😞
Thanks for fixing it THIS quickly Roland! I didn't try 1.82 yet but I assume you did it! 😀
NEW OWNERS (25/12/20) The intetesting parts of this excellent video will not work unkess you download the latest firmware.
BTW Roland, this presentation is a huge improvement on Fantom videos. Thank you.
Does the Mute option only work on a Drum Track? I've been trying both methods to access on Tone Track with no luck.
Cheers :)
EDIT: Can't be done - would be a nice added feature on V1.4 (make sequences a bit more interesting) Thanks!
Roland please please please make a JP8000 boutique or re-release of some sort
Will there be a count-in record function by the next update @rolandcloudacademy? I see this is a very common question amongst everyone. Thanks
Fixed :)
thx
Could we get graphical display of envelopes next please? More graphic display in general would be nice. Numbers are boring hehe. BUT! Going in the right direction with this update for sure!
I agree. It looks like my DJ-70 from 1994! 2020 should have a display that shows how advanced it is.
Great tutorial. The rest feature is explained but the “tie” feature has been missed. Also when selecting new patches, it always reverts back to the last selected patch used on any of the tone tracks. This makes it difficult to say go to your bass track and find a slightly different bass as the system defaults to the last patch preset you looked at. Not to bad if you had just been working on your bass track but if you had then gone to a pad track it’s not so good. It’s also then difficult to find the exact patch you used. Just a bit clunky. It would work much better if every time you selected a track and pressed the sound button it arrived at the exact preset patch you’re using on that tack. Also a USER PATCH SPACE would make the synth side 1000% easier for sound design. Also, more midi cc for midi controller keyboards and motion record “especially filtered envelope” would be great. Another feature that wouldn’t be too difficult to implement is to have 2 velocity settings for the patch tracks. This way we could have accents on bass lines and drum tracks... or even better an accent feature. Thanks 😊
Have you understood how the "scene chains" function works? I did not understand whether it is possible to save a scene as a set of clips and then call them in a chain without specifying the next clip number inside the clip.
We need a PC editor that would allow us to work faster in the studio building presets and then be able to take this on the go
it has one
very important update for 2.0! if you have several drum tracks in one project, and you programm lets say the kick on track 1 on the bottom left pad. switch to track 2 and programm the cowbell top right pad. stwitch back to track 1 to add another kick, the top right pad of that track is selected instead of the kick. so i have to go and hold down the note button and klick on the bottom left pad to get the kick again to programm it on the fly, now if i switch back to track 2, again the same problem. maybe add a "catch" for the pads aswell so the last used pad on that track is active if you switch to it. would make things so much easier.. thanks
Good evening! Tell me, is it possible to select the start point of playback in a clip in roland mc 707 (drum track or synth track)?
When I start a new project, when I go to record/play a new track, I get a demo track coming through? Is this right? Not sure why this would be the case. Also, my pads are super quiet even on full 127 vol...and the demo is super loud...Not sure how to correct this. Thanks
Wish List Roland
.motion records cc messages from a midi controler
This includes teh Zen Core engine ? Does it mean it can play ANY Roland sound? Ort is there a way to add additional Zen Engines with expansions ?
You mention that you can play a sample polyphonic accross teh whole keyrane with just one sample. Does it stretch / resynthesize the sample or is it just a regular sampler ?
when we copy a pad, it's logic it should bring the step sequence but it's not, it only brings the properties of the pad when we hit func+arrow up and then arrow down. How can we copy the step sequence? or do we have to play again or do the sequence again? thank you
Is there an option to make notes/pads in tonetrack microtonal, so you can make real arabic, iranian, indian etc scales?
Yes, i found it! Very easy, but its mentioned nowhere in the manuals or video tutorial as far as i know. Correct me if i'm wrong.
on tone track -> shift+sound -> ctrl -> enter -> page 8 has al tuning settings, fully customizable per every single note, finaly i can play quarter tones now!
Can you have more than 4 note chords?
Where oh where do you set/assign what external controls control SYS-CNTRL[1-4]? Can't find it anywhere...
GRAN VIDEO ,, Y MUY BUENO EXPLICANDO , TENGO UNA DUDA , EXISTE UN TEMPO GLOBAL PARA TODOS LOS PROYECTOS ,? EJEMPLO, CADA VEZ QUE CARGUE UN NUEVO PROYECTOQUE ESTE A UNA BPM ESPECIFICADA POR MI , DE ANTEMANO
Can you latch the Shift button so as to make two button inputs easier?
is there any sort of global un-do or quick project reload. Like say I'm performing and I tweak a lot of parameters, is there an instant way to get back to the original sounds?
You can select reload clip function while playing.
Hi, I just bought MC707 and watching your tutorial I have not the same options as you? I have a lot of things missing. is it normal? Are you making tutorial with the basic version of MC707 or I need download something? Thx
Cool groovebox! But can it be connected to midi software through a computer? And if so, how?
Hello,
I was wondering how can I connect a condenser mic with a phantom power to mc 707? which port should I use?
Thanks in advance foe your help!
I just have to laugh atctimes when using this nice bit of kit. I really like the MC-707, don't get me wrong, but it's a funny relationship which requires...a (special) understanding ;) Curiously,... i find myself, compared (to usage of other knobs/buttons), rarely using the big Value knob for anything. When getting deep into the ZenCore, for example, it's mostly all about tweaking C1-C4 knobs in conjunction with the Arrow Keys. the Value knob is actually restricted to switching between various left-to-right modules thus acts as more of a chooser, yet because one is already having to use Arrow Keys to navigate most features the big Value knob sits on the sidelines. On the Home Screen, suddenly the big Value knob switches orientation and moves up and down a Track in Clip View lol. Another curious thing (to me) is how the engineers decided that functions which are accessed MORE often within the "Common section" buttons would require holding Shift button on the far left side of the unit. One tends to EDIT more often than LOAD-ing new sounds, for example. I sometimes want to throw the Shift button out the window. There is also the hilarious idea to paint the Shift-functionality text in dark gray so as to be invisible in a studio lit for mood ;) NEVERtheLESS,...There are functions on this unit which make it an invaluable tool to getting unique ideas down. It (admittedly) takes a couple frustrating evenings (when one is readycto send it back for refund) but when one warms up to this it is a lot of fun and I find SOME of the limitations a way of pushing me forward. I've never composed like this before, but it's a lot of fun and tvis device is excellent for live performance as well (after some practice). My recommendation is to spend TIME reviewing all 3 of these excellent videos (multiple times) BUT also download (and print out, if yr old like me) the massive "Reference Guide", which although a (special) piece of instruction itself, is rather thorough (at times flatly WRONG). However, I was able to learn quite a lot from the Ref Guide despite my initial desire to toss it in my fireplace. It's definitely a love/hate thing with this unit, but suchvis actually the case with most of my hardware here, when I really think about it. One huge example the Waldorf Blofeld; a synth I will never part ways with but has caused me numerable headaches....and the DSI P12... same thing, different (issues). Both extremely powerful synthesizers but PITA in the first years ;p
is it possible to set the preview only to the phones output? and a selected tracks too, when the fader is down?
Are the editing for the tonal tracks available for the sample tracks?
can I switch projects live while playing?
The metronome option wasn't there like its missing any ideas on why or how to get it
and please make granular synth options !!!
When tracking into Ableton I'm having just input 5/7 not showing up, anyone have any ideas?
Nice ...but i will any my sounds edit save easy to my folder in Roland MC-707 no only with project. I mean save my indivudualy sounds extra and separately. However, update 1.30 is good.
What is the difference to the Roland Verselab MV-1 ?
Cheers
Don't know if questions still get answered here, but is it possible, that notes do NOT get cut, which overlap between patterns/clips, or overlap from last step to first? thank you!
Not to take away from the UNDO function suggestion but I have a music theory question... why at 27.53.... the major chord in key of C4 he plays, rooted on G note, CAN THAT SAME CHORD BE CALLED LIKE other names such as Key Of G Rooted on G ...? Or can those same 4 notes also have different names that aren't in C mAJOR scale for ex...? Or can every chord only have one name and only be in one scale with that same name ?
