Of course you can. However, most Muslims avoid touching dogs because if they are exposed to dog saliva, they must wash them in a certain way, which is explained by the Shari'a.
@@ConvertToIslamStory The lady who fed the dog water with her shoes didn't dog use tongue to scop up water, did she threw away her shoes, 7th century Arabia how much water people had access to wash, or how much cotton clothing material they had for layers and layers of hijab. It's worth doing little research. we can't just follow blindly all sharia.. There's a hadith says if you eat onion angel don't come near. That's made up. Onion didn't grow in their country back then.. We must apply critical thinking.

Everything is explained in islam from how you eat, how to pray, how to "taharah" (Purify your self from najis or hadast like your question).
