IMPORTANT: all the info in this guide is still relevant after the Skills 2.0 changes to regen. Monsoon is less-forgiving but NOT different. Simply prioritize some early-game healing to compensate
Hey, Woolie, you know that one monster that is just claypots and have that machine gun thingie? I meet with it in the desert stage. Can you please inform me if this is a bug? No mod, multiplayer, me and another player. We did play on all of the difficulties, but still encountered it. I only want to give the information so you can inform all other fans of it being a bug or feature.
@@ravnhaveland9594 na, it's totally intended. I just forgot about it, somehow lol. my apologies
Hey woolie, you forgot the wondering vagrant boss in your video, I think a lot of people might want to know how to deal with them.
@@haoyuanli1192 yea, that is a good point. I thought it was a pretty self-explanatory boss but I shoulda included it.
Any tips for playing with freinds? I have no issues getting good runs solo on monsoon, but as soon as I play with freinds the scaling goes wild all my freinds die and I do no damage at all so staying alive is pointless.
Woolie: Don't let lesser wisps pile up and keep your distance.
Game: *Spawns 3 flame wisps and 4 normal wisps directly above the artificer*
TheInfectiousCadaver it wasn’t another scav. THE FIRST ONE HAD DIO’S BEST FRIEND
@@morganpriest7726 hate when that happens, comes outta nowhere
Woolie: "keep your distance"
Me: *sweats in Mercenary*
Same thing on his mithrix guide
lolol
Maaaan I just got that most amazing 250 minute run. After I ended it I immediately started a new run! I love this game!!!!
It's so pleasantly addictive.
I hope this games community grows
@@f.a.angelesquire5012 They just released a 2021 road map with free update coming in March or Q1 and Q4 DLC.
my biggest issue with an enemy is the elder lemurians mostly because they are basically a walking shotgun and its scary as hell
Yeah but their aoe is pretty small so dashing the fire is easy. Greater wisps on the other hand.... if you have no mobility you are dead. You can’t strafe fast enough to deal damage when they’re shooting at you unless you have goat hooves or wax quail.
Yeah yeah but imagine playing rex and a malachite lesser wisp spawns (or engi with fungus)
You can dodge their fireballs if you're a decent enough distance back, also dont hug the walls or hills if that's where the blast is gonna hit. They are very tough though
timed jumping and walking backwards really helps. you can always jump over their shots unless they like right on top of you
They are crazy dangerous artifact of kin is good till they explode you to death with elders
Look for teleporter - check
Loot stuff along the way - check
Activate teleporter -chech
Still dying - 100x yes
Uh, Templars can definitely spawn in stage two in the Not Wetland Aspect.
Yeah they spawn in the desert map
yep they absolutely can - my bad
@@Woolie to be fair they can only spawn in the desert on repeated laps, so it doesn't apply much here considering you focused on the first lap
I was doing a huntress moonson run and was at the stage 7. I interacted with the portal and just as i was teleported, a greater wisp one-shotted me. Pain.
Stop standing still.. lol
You can still die when you're teleport to the next stage?
7:15
It's a teapot.
You could've called it "the big sipp".
@Wersh He S L U R P P
big suck sounds great.
Three things i think you missed:
-The templars also spawn on stage 2 sometimes and their gattlin gun has massive knockback in combination to a slow down effect what makes it fairly hard getting out of the attack if you dont see it coming
- The elder lemurians got a huge debuff on accuracy in close range, so if you stand by their tail they will pretty sure miss you
-The malachite elites stop your health regen for some time and you evey hit procs a new "status" of corruption
/Grovetendies/
Thank you Woolie
Never bought shaped glass before today. And while it did cost me 16 lunar coins. I just ended a 3+ hour run in which I bought 8 of them and obliterated myself because I had to go to work. Thanks for the advice.
8:45 mercenary shift-dash is affected by tether and you cannot break from it. Just fyi.
Elite imps can 1-shot-dot kill you. They first hit you for half hp, then apply bleed plus elite proc. You are pretty much dead if you do not have any healing.
Not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but one thing that has helped me dodge Imp Overlord spikes and Elder Lemurian fireballs if you're lacking in movement or jumps is to jump right before they shoot, and the projectiles will sail harmlessly above you. They still piss me off, but it helps.
Ysh that's good, another thing is, if you have the speed or height, you can dash past or over then and theyll do their melee attacks, making them stand nicer and still
Careful with thr imp overlord though, itll start pounding the ground as soon as it thinks it has you
Also just wanna say, your videos are alway helpful. i started playing shortly before the june update and your videos have been amazing. i have 100+ hours as of right now and have been playing almost everyday since i bought the game.
Awesome :) glad you are having fun with the game & thank you for the kind words
Personally 90% of my runs get ended by malachite elites. When they are in numbers the spikes they spawn greatly limit your movement options and if you just do one mistake you're pretty much dead since you can't heal anymore. But i guess it doesn't apply to the early game
Wiat, Monsoon got harder with the June Updated? And I thought I was simply getting worse at the game lmao.
And now it's even harder. Yay.
I can't get anywhere with huntress on monsoon at all. Also imp overlords totally do use their spikes when you are right next to them
He showed a clip of him dying to the imp overlord as he was talking about how to beat it.
been practicing with the artificer, managed to make it to stage 4 but got killed when i couldn't manage the mobs and the 2 wandering vagrant bosses. I think speed might be the issue since i finding the teleporters is still an issue. All said this guide helped alot
Thanks for advice woolie I need this to help me get some skins!
Really helped mate
just for "dump load of info" i actually subbed lol awsome vidi just got my 20 run in 1 go
Good video! Are you planning on doing a multiplayer video? The biggest issue I really struggle with in multiplayer is deaths in the group. Usually whoever dies is usually left behind in terms of items and is stuck in a cycle of getting weaker and weaker as time goes on usually to the point of never being able to catch up. The run is essentially over for them once they die and it isn't very fun to just watch your friends play for the rest of the run.
The info here applies to multiplayer, as well. Monsoon is pretty rough in a group because everyone has to be on the same page and, you know, not die, as you mentioned. Focus on split-farming and only coming together to charge the teleporter
"based on how many enemies are in THE S U C C" i seriously gasped for air
Btw Woolie clay templars can spawn on any stage after the first loop. Or at least the second stage that has Kjaro and Runald
yea, they can spawn on the desert stage 2 as well - my bad
Good strats!
Thanks for this.
Your humor is on point.
Well, i just play on monsoon to unlock characters skins.
A play mostly of my runs at the "rainstorm" difficulty. Because drizzle is toooo easy. And monsoon is nearly impossible, and completely unfair.
Same. Especially with 1.0 now up, it really gives me the feeling that Rainstorm is the intended experience of Risk of Rain 2. Monsoon is just too much of a gamble. Since 1.0, I feel like the only way you can reasonably make it either past the final boss or to the celestial gate requires such a specific setup that it takes away any sense of accomplishment from doing well. In Rainstorm, you're at least given room to breathe and I can reliably win a rainstorm run with most characters that the final boss doesn't just friggin' wave his middle finger at (Hello Acrid).
HOW ARE YOU NOT FAMOUS LOL i been watching your vid the day when friend bought me ROR2 and almost every single vid... i never know you are some what new streamer i tho you were a big one haha... nice vid nice explanation and would love catch your stream forsure keep on doing the good work MrStreamer you will be big one day.
thank you very much for the kind words :)
@@Woolie nahhh, i am predicting the future and we will come back here one day and you know i was right LOL
chien su he is growing quite fast
u can also get elder lemurians outside the stage 4 but you have to get the event where only lemurians spawns but its not as common to get that
Damn. I'm watching this 2 Yeats late and it's really helpful.
one trick when fighting multiple stone titans is that their big, bulky stone selves actually body-block titan lasers for you, similarly to how two turrets beside each other will eat each other's shots. even if you end up far away from a lone stone titan and it starts charging its laser, the crouch it immediately does to use its pillar attack allows you to get behind it and it'll body-block its own laser.
with regular golems, one interesting cheese I've been using is that most of the time if you get directly behind it they'll spam melee attacks without actually turning to face you, allowing you to safely deal with it if your damage or movement speed is lacking
I've always tried going behind the titan, but somehow it can shoot through its own torso. That always bothered me.
Jayden Potter strange, the angle is finicky but I’ve had it work before. thinking back on it I was moreso getting close to underneath the titan? like next to the titan while it’s crouching for the pillar of rock attack. I haven’t tried making it block itself straight out of lasering, it was always after it started kneeling
Hey Woolie, thanks for all the great content! I know that this game plays best solo, but I have a group of friends that plays together pretty regularly and we need some help ;) I was wondering if you could do a video sometime about strats/tips for teams of 3 or 4. Maybe even which items/survivors are better or worse in groups rather than solo. Thanks a bunch, keep up the great work!!
Engi is probably the best co op character because he can make use of unconventional items that other survivors would just scrap, like Fungus and Nkuhana's. Bubble shield and constant healing zones from fungus turrets can be a big help.
Artificer for similar reasons. Doesn't need attack speed or bleed items, so you can funnel them all into the other characters. Does strong damage early on, so it's good for saving time early when money is tight and you can't be hunting chests for 10 minutes.
Captain is also great in co op. You can take healing orbital (which scales better) or you can take the hacking, which helps get off early stages quickly but kinda falls off later (it basically becomes a free legendary chest cause by the 2nd loop you have more than enough money per stage).
No one is made worse by co op.
ive been killed by a bell ball out of no where so many times.
Its crazy how much damage they can do if they land. Its also funny how the bells seem like one of the most unthreatening enemies as they just sortof float very slowly twards the player with a large hit box, but ignore them for a brief moment and your done.
I cant wait for more maps to come out like im legit looking forward for more maps and new monsters instead of new characters
Yeah, I agree. Very much looking forward to stuff shaking up what we fight against
agree on the brass contraptions... the elites can 1 shot you with a single spike ball and it aint a slow projectile either :/
Pretty much the only thing I didn't really know was that the best phase to attack the B i g P o t in was when its standing up and that titans don't fire lasers if you're close. Good video though!
Against Clay: If he starts to, as you say, suck, run away (best don't let him even catch you), and ignore him for a while, killing all the enemies he catched. When I play artificer I also do everything to stay in the air as long as it is possible, because they are mostly unable to hurt you however then.
I saw this when you first published it but youtube didn't push the notification until just now, 8:10 pm az time
Wow... that is interesting. It has been up for a few days now - thank you for the info
What aggravates me the most is when I blow up a boss quickly and then I'm sitting around waiting for enemies to spawn near the teleporter to hit 100% while the clock is ticking
I'm trying to get solid runs on drizzle, homie, but here I am ^-^
Also was this always your natural voice or did you take lessons? xD love it
yea this is just me talkin normally lol
thanks :)
Just finished a near god run where I used Hellfire Tincture into Razorwire + lifesteal items. Only issue that ended my run was when Mithrix took all of my gear, he go so powerful that he 1 shot me (I stupidly ran shaped glass with that build)
Grovetendies has a chance to shotgun you at close range. I got 1 hit killed by it when trying to poke it with a stick.
Clay Templars have a SUPER SLOW rotation speed while prepped to fire their mini-gun thing. run around them while fighting them and they have a crazy hard time actually trying to hit you since they have to un-prep their gun to turn, then prep again to fire.
Hey Woolie, I'm coming back here after survivors of the void release, and I'm wondering if Monsoon difficultly got increased again? Last couple of runs I've had have been consistently harder than before DLC launch, and I just want to know if I'm losing it/RNJesus isn't on my side or there is something different about Monsoon difficult
Hey Woolie, MettallicVoid once again. Great video and the in depth explanations of scenarios and attacks of monsters was good and overall the video and content was great. Only a few things i need to mention though. For newer players, telling them to stand right next to the Imp Overlord will just get them killed as that ground slam is bs and does a crazy amount of damage. Also when mentioning items like when you said wax quail is good for artificer maybe pull up a photo of a wax quail as a reference for people who dont know what it is or forgot? Anyways, love the vid, the streams and the grind, hope youre doing great!
Your worries are reasonable, but honstely, a beginner playing on monsoon is left for death. You shouldn't play the highest diffculty if you don't even know what's waiting for you, so no reason to explicitely explain single items to new players in a guide that's focused on helping with the "real deal"
@@skeletonking2588 whether its monsoon or drizzle, a wax quail on artificer is still the best green item and its just a show of extra quality in videos and i was just giving him some feedback and/or ideas that could work or look better and if not then i stand corrected but either way, i enjoy woolies content and would love to see his channel grow as he puts in work in his content and streams so why not go the extra mile as to just put a photo of items? im sure its not too hard :)
Thanks for the feedback, man! To be fair, I put the disclaimers at the start for a reason - if anyone needed specific info on items and characters, they should check out the tierlist & character guides, respectively.
But you're right - I could have easily thrown up a picture real quick. At that point, though - it would just be someone else saying "you showed wax quail for Artificer but didn't explain HOW it is the best item on her..." and such.
And yeah, it takes some getting used to for the imp overlords but I do believe staying close and strafing around is the best strat and worth the risk
@@Woolie yeah thats fair, i mean, someone will always complain but idk i disagree on imp overlords, i prefer to just stay back and jump over the spikes as they always land below you. but yeah everyone should just check out the tier list etc.
@@lordkrampus244 Sorry if I came over offensively or something, wasn't my intention! My point was just that you should have some basic understanding of the game anyways when playing on the highest difficulty, but you're still right.
You should make a video just about item scaling. I'm curious which items you should only grab one/a small amount of, and which ones are infinitely good, i.e which printers you should and shouldnt use
You can look it all up on the wiki but basically white items stack the best
Get a bunch of med kids? That's gonna be a lot of healing
Bunch of fireworks? Damage
Gasoline? Fire damage and explosions
The considered worse off the white items in the game can be very strong when stacked, and will even go insane at times.i had a friend recently get so many fireworks from bad luck but these just started wiping out enemies like a missile launcher. Then he got a fireworks printer, will of the wisps, other good stuff, but again fireworks because a core of the build
I like how you say that imp overlords aren't that bad if you stay close to them and in the clip you immediately die when you're close to the imp overlord
How to play monsoon: Pray to the RNG gods for proc items.
Hey do you have any advice for multiplayer? Often in games with my friends it’s more difficult to get a busted monsoon run than in singleplayer.
4-player Monsoon is quite the challenge. everyone needs to be on the same page, pretty much all the time. split up when you spawn in a zone and farm for certain items apart from one another. meet up & kill the boss - most of the tips here should also apply to multiplayer, no issue
Steal all Thier items
@@BlueprintsForHeadaches lol
I hate to be that guy, but doesnt the gunner-guys too spawn on the desert map after first round of maps? I definitely remember being taken offguard by them :D Thanks for the vid none the less Woolie! Your wisdom helps alot! :)
thank u
never really had an issue with any boss except Grovetenders now. His chain attack is literally like a 16 pellet shotgun blast thats hard to not get hit by. every boss has a tell tale when theyre attacking, idk if im just bad, but i cant seem to tell when he attacks and it fucks me up. idk if every chain is a seperate instance of damage or not bc i never seem to survive if i manage to get hit and one shot protection doesnt seem to help me in that case. also im glad im not insane i knew monsoon definitely got harder.
Tips against clay templar dont runaway, get closer , they cant turn around with their bfg that fast ;) great vid man
The problem is when there's 2 of them
Don't forget the annoying hermit crab, especially elite and there's a lot of them..
Weird thing happened to me where literally only lesser wisps would spawn. With the exception of the boss, of course.
That is a rare event, it shows a special message in the chat at the start of a level. Same thing can also happen with golems, jellyfishes and iirc lemurians
I was fighting stone Titan as he said to stand next to hit and I died at it's feet a moment later due to the lazer
Can anyone explain how he has boxes in the map and monsters are dropping items?
I would add, don't stand still. Keep moving and jumping much as possible. Seems obvious but makes a huge difference
Every one of my monsoon runs seems to end by me triggering the teleporter, a horde of greater wisps spawning and one shotting me out of the air as I try to fight them at distance -_-
I'm guessing you're using commando... try to get the shotgun, its got a lot of damage, though you'll have to get closer to aerial enemies to outlive your damage per use
could you make an updated version of this? there have been alot of changes to the game so that would be great
It's still fairly accurate and good advice
that footage makes me feel so bad about myself, I must be really bad if My huntress in drizzle deals less damage than artificer in monsoon...
Feels great man 🥲👍
i had a run end from getting a only stone golem spawn on my 3 loop
So when you're on a stage does it get harder when the difficulty increases or does it stay the same until you go onto the next stage?
any tips on malechite enemies, those guys are really tanky
two words:
guillo - TINES
but really, guillotines are your best friend. keep a distance & try to group enemies around the malachites so that your AoE procs, like Ukulele, will chain off of them and help take the Malachites down.
cc them as much as possible & you should be good
SPinal Tonic 💥💪
Omg I've had sooooo many runs that ended because of a malachite elite
I died to a beetle guard elite after the first loop, after killing the boss and at 89%. All because it was around the corner and was like the last thing around, and I was 20% hp. So yeah, didnt jump enough
normal lemarians also the lesser wisps spawn like 10 at a time

Complete guide to Risk Of Rain 2
Missle launcher - drowned - fuelcell - shaped glass - topaz - afk - thank me later
“here’s my guide to monsoon: just don’t die, 4 head”
Do these splits apply to multiplayer as well, or is it a bit more lenient with 4 players?
I'd say it's even STRICTER in multiplayer because the difficulty ramps up absurdly fast in 4 player Monsoon. You cannot fall behind for even a second else your run is probably donezo
Question what you only with Command Sacrifice and swarm on does this change the time of the first loop
I thought i was just bad at the game since the update. Thanks for the Video. Do you know what changed in detail? Is it maybe the multiplier for the difficulty or something else?
nah, I think it was just more incremental work with their spawning algorithms (the Director) and such. definitely seeing more elite enemies now
God, brass contraptions are usually not the worst ennemies, but once you get some of them elites, the moment they hit, your hp MELT so hard, and that's why once you get them to spawn in elite form they definitely tend to be the non boss monsters I fear the most. Like, they're usually not that scary but the moment you dodge poorly you better be ready to get SPIKE BALL'ED, and either quickly have a way to recover or you just die. It's like playing dodge ball with someone who usually can't aim but has some serious strenght, so they just rely on repetition until you make a mistake.
finna upload :))
Has anyone done a more up to date version of this?
AND IT WILL COME
hey woolie i was wondering hw does equipment drone interact with all the equipments? Also what time are you streaming?
it just takes whatever equipment you give it and uses it as you would. so, giving it stuff like a foreign fruit is kinda pointless bc it would just heal itself over and over.
I usually stream around 10am EST - I always announce when I go live / upload a video on Discord, so that is the best place to get notifications
discord.gg/pgU6kCa
I have found that elite beetle guards are problematic on stages past 4 because ice beetle guards slow you and then hit you with there aoe attack for a lot of damage also they have rather long range for a nonranged enemy
Stay away from enemies that only have melee attacks. The slam and quake attack is easy to dodge, just sprint jump to the side
Since i live in a monsoon country, does the difficulty stack?
Ayo Woolie, whats good?
Hi there woolie, any tips on how to move when you are dealing with a lot of monsters while fighting a boss?
focus down the largest non-boss threats first, such as lesser wisps & golems, then turn your attention to the boss itself. this will leave you MUCH more space to maneuver around.
other than that, just use the classic "run in a circle and constantly jump"
Hey, Woolie, you know that one monster that is just claypots and have that machine gun thingie? I meet with it in the desert stage. Can you please inform me if this is a bug? No mod, multiplayer, me and another player. We did play on all of the difficulties, but still encountered it. I only want to give the information so you can inform all other fans of it being a bug or feature.
i don’t agree with the fact that Clay Dunestriders can basically generate health out of thin air when they use their health siphon on another clay dunestrider. They just keep healing up and both of them gain HP at the same time which is out of thin air.
It's the same principle as with Rex. They will drop down and apply a leaching beam on anything closeby. If it hits something, they will constantly heal from it. The more things get hit, the more they will heal.
Skeleton King i get that concept but what is bullshit is that the dunestriders can siphon health from each other alone and both heal back to 75% hp
Skeleton King which if you think about it, that should be impossible and the hp is coming out of thin air unless i’m actually dumb as shit and there’s an explanation how they can extract and gain the same exact amount of HP off each other without losing everything that is extracted from the other dunestrider. I guess somehow it can be that the dunestriders have a defensive buff, but shouldn’t that mean that the other dunestrider taking the health away should be gaining less? it still doesn’t make sense because they both regain their hp from siphoning from each other
Wich is the best character to play safe?
Edit* nm saw ur vid
I'm late to the part but what about the wandering vagrant and that huge ass explosion?
0:48 hello mr white text
When you think WoolieVS got into RoR2
I play mercenary, so this is hard for me to keep my distance... so what do I do about some of these? Be dependent on my invincibility time frames?
Yeah, Merc heavily relies on his skill cooldowns and most importantly shift & r (i-frame skills)
Only engage in combat when you have both of em up and you should see much better results
How to deal with malachite elites efficiently? I keep getting randomly hit by them and then obliterated
yea, gotta keep a distance and if you get hit, disengage IMMEDIATELY and wait for the debuff to expire. not really any other way to deal with them aside from stacking guillotines and dealing with them quick
how do i fight 15 greater wisps, 10 stone golems, 12 elder lumarians, and the entire population of lesser wisps? (im at 15 minutes)
kill them before your HP reaches 0
hey, you left out the Wandering Vagrant, and thats the boss if have the HARDEST time against for some reason. what are tips for that?
Keep kiting around in a circle & when it reaches the threshold for explosion, find something to line-of-sight it ASAP.
It doesn't have to be very big at all (the little prongs of the teleporter are actually big enough to block the hit) and as long as it can't see you, you're good
Do you have any tips on how to beat aurelio in the early game in the first "time frame"? That Ult is the only achievement i'm still missing but sadly whenever i have a 3 hour run or so there is no gold altar anyway but recently i've found multiple in stage 3, 4 and one in 6, and at those times, while i did manage to beat him, it was in the second phase and in the first one i could only take about half his hp.
Is there anything i could do better in these situations or just pray for better items?
(Of course everything on monsoon, and the time was pretty much always under 30-~35 minutes)
I managed to pull it off on the first day of the update with REX - I got lucky and had a gold portal on the first loop. His early game damage with M2 spam is enough to get the job done with minimal items, so maybe just spam REX and hope to get a portal on 1st loop
Otherwise, not much you can do, unfortunately
@@Woolie Alright I guess I'll try that. Thank you.
Woolie #1!
do you have any mods that assist but dont alter the gameplay? as i wanna kind of do it in its most bare but i feel my lack of knowledge of items is hindering me and or when to pick up lunar items or when to push on myrthix
ItemStatsMod will give you the exact description of what an item does upon pickup - that may help quite a bit!
as far as other quality-of-life stuff, I only use FasterPrinter and FasterScrapper.
@@Woolie what would you recommend to scrap usually as i do understand what to print usually i just feel i never use the scrapper enough properly
Could you give some tips for multiplayer? My friends and I can barely survive on Monsoon after even stage 3, unless we get super lucky on some drops. Maybe you could share the most consistent strategies that you know of for multiplayer runs. I feel like the Stage 4 around 15 minutes really does not work in multiplayer at all. Unless you're throwing all the items into one person. Everyone is just too weak to fight the bosses/not enough movement to stay alive by stage 3. I thing just discussing some reliable strategies might help a lot of people. Like, is it just hands down better to feed one player, or better to farm early stages until you are all comfortable enough to move on, or one player gets a lucky drop to carry? I just really think rushing stage 4 with 2 or more players is inconsistent, even less than inconsistent. In my experience it never works. Unless of course you're just throwing all items on one person, but then it's not really fun for everyone. I feel like you're always behind the curve in multiplayer for some reason. Wish the devs would address the item issues in multiplayer, because this issue directly stems from there just not being enough items to go around.
I would even say that more specifically it's that there's never enough _good_ items to go around to keep pace with monsoon, since if I find some bungus as mercenery, it takes a lot of time for my engi buddy to hobble halfway across the map to pick it up. We might all be able to get workable builds, but never at the same speed as a single player executively deciding what is or isn't worth the time as quickly as they can think
Whats your opinion on mercenary post update? I know he got some little buffs but once the malachite enemies show up it's basically game over in my experience, I'm thinking he's on the back burner currently.
I agree, to a point - if you can get a run going with guillotines and teddy bears, he can deal with Malachites pretty easily.
Otherwise, yeah, he has to take more caution than usual. Keep trying him, though - he is extremely strong
@@Woolie I'll do that, thanks for responding and all your helpful videos!!
For the stage 1 rule
It dont apply to fungus multishops when engi, right?
Yeah, if you find a fungus 3-D printer, I would def farm up for as many as you can
