commentary: such parades are called sovereign's parades. the monarch is always represented by a member of the royal family or another distinguished person. equally distinguished among the graduating cadets was sheikh mohammed bin zayed, third son of sheikh zayed bin sultan, ruler of abu dhabi and president of the united arab emirates. sheikh furour bin sultan was another cadet from the emirates. the two sheikhs took part in the parade along with other cadets about to embark on careers as officers in the british army. sandhust has been training british officers since eighteen hundred and twelve. at the end of the parade, it's not just the cadets who climb up the steps into the academy building. (natsof) sheikh khalifa bin zayed, here in arab clothing, was a guest at the passing out parade. he is crown prince of abu dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the united arab emirates armed forces. (natsof) so friday's (april 6th's) sandhurst sovereign's parade was something of a family get-together for the sovereign family of abu dhabi.
