Hello Maangchi, don't mean to disturb, but for beginners learning Korean cooking/cuisine, sometimes we can only buy the ingredients Online. Usually they will sell Gochugaru in Flakes or even Powder form. IF we are a beginner and can buy only 1, which one do you recommend we buy the Flakes or the Powdered Gochugaru for Korean cooking?
Use hot pepper flakes.

Been using this recipe for years, it never fails me! It tastes better than any of the restaurant made ddeokbokki I’ve tried 🥰
jhonny homemade is always the best made
What brand of the hot paste did you use ?
jhonny so excited to make this!!!!
I agree with you!! After I tried this recipe, all the tteokbokki that i ate in other restaurant disappoints me😭 this shows how delicious Maangchi's recipe is! On top of that, I'm such a lazy person...I'm lazy to cook but I always crave for tteokbokki and this is so frustrating😭😭😭
This comment makes me want to try cooking this! 😂
By the way, can I use any brand of gochujang? Will the brand really matter?
I love when you said how to eat the kelp and anchovies "Just chew and swallow"😂😂 I am dying!!
That's like comedy GOLD XD

This recipe is absolutely THE BEST. My partner and I feel in loveee with a Korean fried chicken place here in LA and they make our most favorite tteokbokki. We've tried many other places to see if it compares and it never did. I tried your recipe and it is pretty much identical to our favorite!!! I can FINALLY make my absolute favorite dish at home 💖💖💖 It's 100% the anchovy broth that makes the dish perfect! THANKYOU MAANGCHI!

I made this for the second time (this time with gimmari as well). My first time wasn't the best but this time it's great - I think it's because I used fresh rice cakes from a Korean bakery instead of frozen ones. It's amazingly delicious! Now I understand why everyone loves tteokbokki. Thank you Maangchi 😊

I made this today! I had never had rice cake before...oh my gosh it's so delicious! I used the coin-shaped rice cake and some yellow potatoes, chopped small. My seasoning paste was tamari, gochujang, gochugaru, sesame oil, crushed garlic and ginger, black pepper, and green onion. It was incredible! I'm a vegetarian so I'm always looking for new stuff to make.
Anatexis yum!
So often I think about adding potatoes to mine but I always chicken out and stick to the basics because it's awesome just the way it is,; however you have made me brave enough that I may add potatoes next time! 👍
Hello is this recipe really spicy (++++) because my family and I can't eat really spicy food 😭😭

You can boil rice cakes separately in water, remove it, than put it on a plate and squirt the sauce on top of it, and eat it like this. It will not turn out like the stew, you will have to eat it like a snack, like fries and ketchup haha! ~
