Ken's legal name is "And Ken" -- hahahaha! His whole identity is just to be an accessory for Barbie. It's so subtle but so fantastic!
Wait really that’s so iconic! Funny you mention because Ryan Gosling said that Barbie did not f*ck with Ken at all…like you said just an accessory. In this movie he seems to be her adventure buddy 😂 I grew up having lots of Barbie’s and a few kens. I remember not playing with kens because they were so boring haha. But I do love that they have him in this movie

Actually, according to the director, she didn’t use any cgi at all. All of it is a set. There’s no green screen.
I didn't realise until now that the sun was painted to look like the Mattel logo (also, all of the backgrounds in Barbie's land are handpainted)

Theres some fabulous little decisions theyve made that you might not notice unless playing with Barbies was a big part of your child hood. The way she floats down from the top floor of her house is exactly how barbie gets around when kids play with her
Wow, Barbie looks phenomenal for 64 years old! 😄 She was “born” a month before me. As a low-income senior I wait for reviews and borrow select movies from the library when they’re on DVD. I think the first Avatar is the last time I was motivated to go to the theater. But I’m going to the theater for opening day of Barbie and saying “Take my money!”

I'm a 67 year old woman who never really cared for playing with Barbies but I was excited for this movie. It was my birthday so my daughter "made" her husband, 16 YO son, 14 YO daughter, 9 YO daughter go with us to see the movie. Everyone liked it except the 9 YO. I want to see it again several times because, in reading reviews, I see that I've missed a lot of things and the various perspective of those things. There's a lot in this movie. I laughed and I cried. The billion dollars that it's brought in so far is well deserved.
Margot has said for the shoe/foot scene they had double sided tape on the spot for the shoes to stay in place & she held onto a rail to get balance for the heeled feet part.
& pretty sure most of the barbie world set is painted not a green/blue screen.
There ended up being a world shortage of pink paint because of this movie, apparently.
Sorry! NO green or blue screens: the backgrounds are physically present paintings and ALL the sets are built.
ive seen a few little short featurettes about some of the set & it showed artists painting hills & scenery on a flat background ~ the one i saw today was margot robbie giving a tour of her barbie dream house ~
there's a lot of painted sets and backdrops for this movie. like backdrops for musical theatre. if you watch the architectural digest tour of the set video it talks about the painted back drops. looks really cool
The sparkles is a a safety barrier so that the Rival Ken's don't physically Fight each other for Barbie. Just compete, or throw stuff at each other 😂
I thought it's when kids fight with Kens they usually bash the Kens chests together.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie with Margot Robbie, I am may not have even recognized her as an actress until this movie but she is Barbie💕 I really enjoyed this movie, it’s so good, the level of camp is perfect not too overwhelming because you see everything you expect to see, but the cheesiness doesn’t get too overwhelming or the--actually nothing in this movie could’ve been overdone I just wish it was longer😂 the ending scene! I wish I had been paying close attention and anticipated what was going to happen when I finally watched it😂 is full of surprises from beginning to end.

When I walked in high heels a lot, the walking in the air was not a difficult thing. But you can't hold it for very long without support. Ankles and calfs get really strong like that :) And the movie was great! Went with a 9 year old with no expectations and it was so much fun :) You should see it if you haven't, as you will get som aha's out of the set :D

Yay!! I didn't know I wanted to watch this until I saw this trailer! Lol
I’m pretty sure the backdrops are painted, like they did back in the day with the old musical movies.
In another video it was stated that Margot Robbie did ballet previously and those were her feet - perfectly shaped on her toes out of the slippers.
Them getting to the real world. Reminds me alot of how Elf gets to New York. Alot of scenes remind me of other movies. Such as " I'm just Ken" reminds me of " Greased Lightening ", from Grease.
According to Margot and Greta there is no blue screen. Everything was painted to look flat like a real toy on an actual movie lot. There’s no actual water in Barbieland just like with a real toy.
Apparently it’s not blue screen, it’s an actual painted backcloth, and the sets were actually built. The theme is based on the Wizard of Oz, but sort of in reverse. Dorothy lives in sepia toned Kansas but when she falls she knocks herself out and dreams of Technicolor Land of Oz, but at the end she is safely back in Kansas. Barbie lives in pink plastic Barbie World but visits the real world where things are rather desaturated and grey looking and she learns about things that just don’t happen in Barbie world, like death, and children who don’t like Barbie.
Apart from Wizard of Oz, which is showing at the Barbie Cinema, there are references to things in many classic films, some of them really obscure. This film is definitely aimed at adults, there are many things in it that no child of Barbie fan age would understand. For example, there is a reference to something in The Godfather; it is unlikely that any child of that age would have seen that film and even if they had probably wouldn’t like it, or understand it.
It’s very cleaver, I,be seen several trailers and an interview with the director but I don’t think I could warptch the whole film for an hour and a half; it would destroy my brain, to what’s left of it. My favourite that I’ve seen is that one of the Barbies it really tatty looking with much of her hair roughly hacked off, what look like coloured pencil marks all over her face, and a torn dress. She’s obviously supposed to look like she’s been played with by some horrible child. I wonder if this reflects on the director’s own childhood, if she ever owned a Barbie.
So according to Robbie, she wasn't on a harness. They had tape down so the shoes wouldn't follow her feet and then off screen she's holding onto a support bar. But it's all practical and practiced ❤
You should totally react to the Oppenheimer trailers if you haven't seen them already because that movie looks amazing. It's also connected to Barbie all over the internet because both movies come out July 21 and look really good but have super different vibes

I'm seeing lots of comments about Nikki Minaj doing the song, but i need all y'all young people to know it heavily samples from Aqua's Barbie Girl, one of the most iconic songs from the nineties, which is the part you hear in the trailer.

On the Aqua music clip: i don't know the *whole* story, but Mattel gave the group such utter hell over Barbie Girl back in the day, Aqua has declined to be part of the movie. I've heard that's as much of the song as they can include without a lawsuit and it's there because fans were all "where's 'Barbie Girl'?!?" after each teaser. So there it is.
No blue screen guy! Check it out....they released a "making of" showing all the sets and them hand painting the background. Loved "It's a green scene and we all know that for a fact." But I loved your reaction!

I just noticed the Barbie pink chair in front of Will Ferrell in the otherwise very staid boardroom.
Standing on the balls of your feet is fairly common with trained dancers, it’s called a relevé. Although I’m sure she needed a ballet barre to hold that if it took hours to film at that angle which is not as straight up that works better for your center of gravity.
How did you like the movie? I saw it twice, and it’s one of the finest films I’ve EVER SEEN. It’s a social commentary on gender roles in society. So happy that Mattel went along with this! Margot Robbie produced it, and has a pay day of $50 million+!

No editing necessary for Barbie feet. That's just what feet do inside those shoes. Holding it much longer than that shot is feet feat, though.
