928 was always my dream car, still is. It looks amazing from any angle.
Still looks good today as it did back then. A timeless modern design!
I've just purchased an eighty eight S4, and I'm gobsmacked at the attention that it gets.
Porsche 928 , Lamborghini Diablo, and Datsun 240 fairlady are some of my favorite classic wedge shape cars.
Thanks for a great video of this amazing forgotten beauty. I have owned an '88 since 1997 and put 120K miles on her (On NJ roads no less) and loved every minute. They are fantastic to drive as you so very well pointed out :)
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
@@Enthusiastic_enthusiast where exactly in NY are you located?
Beautifully preserved S4! Makes me miss mine even more after watching this video.
My fist love was the 911 back then, I was a teenager but when they introduced the 928 in the last 70's, it was instant love at first sight and still beautiful to this day.
Go get one!!
Unique!
For me, it was the US focused Porsche, that era, going from sports to GT.
AMG-GT rear looks much like the 928.
And Panamera also reminds me of the first big Porsche, the 928.
I never will forget doin 280Km/h with this Car, while passing over a bridge, feeling the car gettin ..kinda loose off the springs..goosebumps.
This car needs special breed mechanic!
Make sure, before buying a 928, U know one, with decent prices!
Greetings!
Great video!
cool, well done on the video.. Nice 928. I recognize that Glickenhaus Boot in the background too! 🙂
Yes! Thank you!
Okay, the VHS tape of your car was pretty cool
And seeing that this year makes it 35 since it's existence, one wonders what Porsche could have in store to celebrate...
They should re- release it at a 80's price- say starting at 80; topping at 120 with upgrades- shee- they' sell 250k in first 2 years!!
sounded nice when you shut that door- SOLID.
I've been a fan of the 928 since the early 80's, preferably in black, with gold BBS wheels.
BTW...the Baja BOOT is phenomenal as well.
Likewise! Can’t wait to do a review on the boot😎
My ex girlfriend had one 928 S4 same colour very nice 320 HP 👍
But slow and overrated. And a 928 in a women's hand is a waste of a 5.0 V8
@@petervankas1352Slow? It was the fastest production car in the world at the time.
Still got the car😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@petervankas1352 En manos de una mujer ese coche es un bombazo!! sexy a mas no poder!!

Good video but too bad this was not a 5 speed manual (I owned one for 16 years) and it would look much more attractive with turbo twist wheels. Add some Alloygator (made in Britain) red rim protectors and the car will get non-stop whistles.
The 928 is beautiful. So is the 911. And the 959. And the 944/968. Even the 924 and 914. I think you know what I mean. I forgot the 356 and the James Dean car.
That car was either a 1987 or 1988 the 1989 has a digital odometer that was carried on till the end of production in 1990 928s received airbags giving them a new dash in 92 the displacement increased and they received rear fender flares and a reflector that filled in the back between taillights these where the GTS in 89 928s also a center roof radio antenna they are very minor cues to 928s year
In My 23 - 33 1980s Dream Car. (smile)
You know there is no substitute.
I don’t know why but the 928 has always has ZZ Top vibes
I don't see it but you do and that's all that matters.
I had to adjust the tracking on my VCR several times to watch this video!!
is this for sale? link to sale site?
V8 ,Goodness
It’s funny how US 928 imports insist on those extra left/right indicator lights at the front and back. They’re not terribly ugly, but they’re not pretty either, plus I don’t saw how that clutter of lights contributes any more to the overall safety than the original lights. What’s so different about America that they need more signs and indicators than any other country. Do Americans wear blinkers and balaclavas when they drive cars and need extra indication? 😂
beautiful how much
Sir, what did the 928 sell for?
5 minute intro? You're insane.
Can that music you’re ruining the car
driving on the taconic?
Great video ! As opposed to the R129 that you said you had how exactly is it different? I’m thinking of getting one. My low mile 99’ SL500 is very poised delicate and mildly comfortable ride. Great seats . Does the 928 have slightly more room to recline the seat back compared with SL 500? Speed and overtaking about the same ?
Yes, exactly, you get more lateral room to recline in the 928. In my sl, my knees are pushed against the dash if I attempt to recline!
@@Enthusiastic_enthusiastthank you so much for the reply! Your video and answer made me want to get a 928S. Appreciate it:) 👍🏼🙏🏻
@@Enthusiastic_enthusiast yes the exact same thing with my knees the seats when reclined bunch up my knees and I’m average at 5ft 10” god help someone taller ! The SL is one of my favorite cars to drive ever. Definitely could own more than one maybe an SL600 R129 would be next later on!
The 928 was well overrated
@@petervankas1352 nope they actually cost $2,000 or so less than a 911 Turbo at the time. They are great cars if you buy one that’s been stored in the garage so the interiors don’t get roached out by the elements as the leather interior doesn’t like the heat. I bought a mint 17,000 mile one and it’s glorious to drive as it was stored indoors by a guy that had a 15-20 million dollar Ferrari collection.
The car drives superbly super solid and everything you touch is built for many decades unlike cars of today. It’s fast too they all go over 145 mph. They handle superbly around corners and are very comfortable on the hi-way easily coverings long distances in that wonderful rich leather smell that the 70’s and 80’s 911’s have. They are hidden gems in my opinion. Just I wouldn’t buy one from a poor person that stored it outside and needs things done to it and you need to pay for all the decades of deferred maintaining that will need to be done at todays ever increasing high labour costs. I’m very happy with mine and love the noise of the naturally aspirated V8 when you push it. With all that high end german quality surrounding you everywhere 🇩🇪
Price, HP & still 4 Sale…. 928 S4 best Year or years to purchase is ??? 🤔 anyone know ?
Del 89 en adelante
Timeless. Some updating on the interior to bring it up to modern standards, along with a little bit on the exterior perhaps (but just a little), and you have a modern design !
Says who? you- pffft.
@@johnjeffery6638 lighten up JJ !!!
It is not an ‘89. If it were an ‘89 it would have a digital dash and a roof antenna.
You are correct
i did not like the older 928's, only from the S4 to the GT and at its final, the GTS....(most favourate one to me)
R129 Mercedes Benz? Really?
I like my 1985 928s auto, but it does lack performance
The Dogs bollock
It’s a myth that the 928 was built as direct replacement for the 911. Porsche were simply looking to get a foothold in the luxury GT market occupied by Mercedes (many 2 seater Roadster models) and Jaguars famous XJS. If the luxury GT business and the new customer base demand exceeded that of the 911, then Porsche would simply have phased out the 911 as customer demand grew in favour of the 928. I owned a beautiful jet black 928 S4 for 13 years, it basically became the love of my life. I sold her to a wealthy collector in 2015 and miss the car greatly. Much more than just a ‘car’ it was like wearing the most comfortable suit imaginable and steering a work of automotive art around places where you live your life. Very hard to explain, no other car had that impact on me and I’ve owned BMW, Saab. Amongst the finest cars you could buy at the time and they simply paled by comparison.
almost got myself a GT..but I can't compete with someone buying 2 early 911 turbos on the side... S4's with stick got up there too in price so I went with a Scat Pack challenger. (which 6 spd, and the hellcat brembos)
Amazing car. Those wheels, however, look terrible. It'd look 100 times better with Cup2 wheels. Cheers.
Never liked the cup style and the phone dial was kinda cool, but wasnt quite right. The grooved 7 slot were the style of the day and although I have briefly considered changing them, they are totally rock solid forged alloy and will not break at 150 miles per hour.
Automatic! For those who don't know or dont like to drive! There is a reason why manual 928 are worth so much more!
Having owned both I can assure you that the automatic is the correct transmission for these cars. But remember they are 35 years old and all the perishables need replacing. I have a full transmission rebuild plus replacement of all the vacuum hoses, fuel lines and coolant hoses and the car runs like a dream
@@zardosspinosa6944 you are not an enthusiast, much less a Porsche guy if you say an old school slushbox is the correct trans for a 928.
