I'm glad to see there's an interest in this. I started building my own spatial diary tool (effectively a mind mapping tool) earlier this year purely for my own personal use, this makes me think I should polish it and make it public one day. I understand you're using Mozilla Hubs for this, are you aware of anything others? I'm really enjoying your content by the way, I think the potential for inspiring self actualisation through VR is the techs most exciting offering.

Fascinating idea! VR has so much potential as we tap into our own minds and connect it with the virtual space.

In ancient times they used their brain to form memory palaces...

You might be interested in the tool I worked on for making memory palaces in 3D environments. We've incorporated it with a study planner that calculates your forgetting curve and it's social. FREE to use and right now we have an lite web version and an app creator tool. Memorix.dk is the site. We're doing R&D for an AR app.

This channel is excellent. You've shown us how to do several things I've been searching for a way to do, plus more ideas.
I love the realistic space and the notion of floating in space. Is there any chance of allowing us a way to access this base world or even a tutorial to make it ourselves?

Thank you man! This is sort of too time consuming for most people, I think, as each 3D model is handpicked, etc. But I might have something for you... I made a tutorial (first vid ever, in fact) that showed how you could do this on a Quest using Mozilla Hubs, if you search for: «Create a VR Memory Palace on the Oculus Quest!»
That being said, I did create a Unity Tutorial for creating VR Apartments (which I used myself to create a VR Memory Palace.) Here’s a link to the tutorial: czcams.com/video/TcyOVd6awZY/video.html
And here’s the video of me using it to create a VR Memory Palace: czcams.com/video/75h-DscgTSU/video.html

@@AltVR_CZcams Thanks for your reply. So, the building is constructed primarily from 3D scans from online and pieced together? Or did you also construct some aspects of it using standard walls and adding texture meshes? I had a small hope that the bulk of this may have been a single 3D scan with some editing and placed in the space environment.
I am familiar with Mozilla hubs from your video and have learnt how to use that on a basic level, but it seemed to be restricted to a starting area of the grass plane. That is lovely, but your's is much more surreal. I also like your video on mapping out your apartment to allow normal movement, sitting and so on. I think I'll try this one day.
For now, though, is it possible to make this scene available as a starting block that can be expanded in Unity? I'm happy to learn a bit of Unity, but I am a bit time-constrained. I'm a psychologist and also about to start med school and continue therapy on the side. The memory palace will be nice for med school.
Btw, I personally plan to place much smaller objects in my scenes that can be viewed up close. This way, I could be more thematic and implant much denser information. For example, I could have one hall for each area of medicine with, say, a painting for each main disorder (if framed with four corners and embellishments at each vertical midpoint, that would make 6, plus the painting will catch your eye and draw it one way or the next and so on). All of this could be used and could be combined with the node system to show idea flow and interconnectedness. The paintings could be thematically chosen based on connectedness and the layout could signify further important details. I'm not sure how much of this is easily visualised with this quick description, but I'll be happy to invite you to view the scene once I realise some of these ideas. Especially if it's done with your foreground - wink wink**.

@@MHTHINK The Memory Palace from this video is composed of 3D models / buildings, etc., from online, yes, both for free and purchased. It's not hard to combine things in Unity though, not at all. What gear do you have? This could never run on a mobile device, for instance.

@@MHTHINK Regarding making it available as a starting block, I'm afraid I don't have the license to redistribute the source code or the assets, unfortunately. Although I own the asset itself, I only have the license to redistribute it as a finished product as I understand it.

@@MHTHINK I absolutely understand the point of having smaller objects in scene! Also makes better use of the space. I do some research on this also in my day job as a PhD Candidate, and several of my participants found this to be effective for them.

Maybe I am misinformed, but isn't it best to build a memory palace out of a building that you are vary familiar with? I've always used my current home.

    • @AltVR_YouTube
      @AltVR_YouTube  Před 3 lety +2

That is normal yes, works well. I also made this for my apartment: czcams.com/video/75h-DscgTSU/video.html That being said, by being in virtual places, they’ll soon enough become a space you are familiar with too.

what about mixing memory palaces with mind maps, audio, images, video, and text on every stage?
