Love this channel. I always used to mock/dismiss karate because I'd trained at a mcdojo as a kid. Now, upon learning real karate techniques, it's improving my Muay Thai performance because of all the fresh perspectives, combos, and techniques that I've learned from karatekas such as yourself. I've been hitting people with spinning backs, inside crescent kicks, and side kicks, and they never know what just hit them. The other day I used the age uke movement to set up a nasty cross across a sparring partners jaw, after using a low guard to encourage them to throw a 1-2 at me.
Sambo's casting punch is the same. I've also seen it in an old newspaper drawing of bareknuckle boxing. PS: Every time I use that punch a lot, my shoulder muscles hurt when waking up, but the pain goes away quickly.
Can I please ask something? Do you twist your foot of the ground when you are punching? I know some people do this when doing gyaku tsuki. Me and my sensei talked about this our last training we also do boxing punches and there is normal that you twist your leg when landing cross. Do you use this movement when doing for example tate tsuki or kage tsuki?🥋
@@jkgardiner Thank you. John is there any book with all hand and leg punches in shotokan? My advice. Your chanell is great. Why you dont record a tutorial with all of them.
My Karate lessons never taught me that, thank Master !

I'm glad to hear that. We can learn from other arts and become better at our own as a result.

Stretching my shoulders helped me avoid pain or injuries regardless of what punch or elbow I use in training.
My sensei never taught us this, I suppose this is where the makiwara training would help.
These kind of techniques are in kata. Makiwara would help with this, or just normal bag work 👍
@@jkgardiner Thanks for the advice. Will have to practice on my bag in my garage
hmmm jin kazama ,
Great video! Can you show how to parry bare knuckle punches?
Could you show us some feints with fists and kicks?

Yes I would allow that foot to twist
@@jkgardiner Thank you🥋
great
I've actually heard other alleged karateka claim that karate doesn't have a hook punch- that's boxing. 😅
must have been an american who said that lol .
@crisalcantara7671 It was, but I'm an American living in America, so that's to be expected. lol
Hi. Is this punch allowed on karate tournaments in Europe?
My doughter is learning shotokan.
No not in competition
@@jkgardiner Too bad. I really like the shot. Is it Okinawan karete style?
@vb8647 its in shotokan, my style is also shotokan. But in competition (WKF/JKA etc) they only usually allow straight punches

Boxers call that a corkscrew punch
Osh, how to punch with speed and flexibility with big back muscles and is a little annoying when playing kata.
Work on upper body mobility, flexible and mobile muscles and joints can move faster
Dont punch like that brother you break your hand or knuckle
Did you watch the video? This is how you don’t break your knuckle
Каратэ это для улицы, а не для спорта.
