  • This is my amateur shot video from the RAF Abingdon BoB display on the 16th Sep 1989.
Clearly a very wet day (typical British airshow weather..), but a classic mix of late 80s RAF aircraft here.
Some nice film from the displays inside the hangers with Jaguar and Hawk wheel retractions and controls being demonstrated.
The static display had a nice mix of RAF and USAF aircraft from the time amongst others such as F-16 and F-5, and some film taken on the other side of the field with the stored Nimrod AEW3 and VC-10s that were there at the time.
Highlights in the flying display are a nice Shackleton and Nimrod and C-130 display.
Classic Abingdon display which was always one of the highlights of the Airshow calender in the 80s.
Check out my other videos for more Air Show footage from the 1980s/1990s/2000s.

I started the strip down of the Spitfire that you see in the film, MK356, while on RSS at Abingdon. Unfortunately it was the one that crashed this year (2024) as part of the BBMF.

I missed this. I was there from 1985-1987 and I loved it all (in retrospect) especially SACW Sandra Lay :-)

I never liked the English F-4s, cant really call them a phantom without the J-79. Its like making an oversized woman a bikini model 😂
