    I'll admit it right up front: I'm a Nalgene girl. Always have been. I honestly can't recall a time in my life where I had any other brand of water bottle. Since high school when I first learned about the brand and how not only was it indestructible, but if you did manage to break some part of it they would replace it for free, I was sold. And when another adventurous woman showed me her Nalgene bottle that she had had since the 80's, I knew I would be a Nalgene fan for life. However, that doesn't mean that there isn't occasionally room in my cabinet for another exceptional water bottle, and that might just be LARQ: the world's first self-cleaning water bottle.

    Great review. This video was more persuasive than the company's quirky one. I just ordered one plus the sleeve. I keep my bottle at the gym in my locker (glass enclosed in plastic). I have to wash it at my office with proper dish soap because otherwise I wash it in the locker room sink and something about that doesn't sit well with me. I have a feeling that if a lab expert took samples from the locker room sink, I'd barf. Thus, it sometimes goes unwashed. I'm looking forward to this. And it's designed similarly to the Mercedes water bottle, but that serves no function.

      The UV filter will kill everything but obviously won't filter out particles, so it really just depends on your use case. Here's one of our articles about other filtration methods that might be helpful: terradrift.com/8-backpacking-water-filters-and-how-to-purify-water-outdoors/

    One of the only complaints is that these should be 48 oz bottles for $99 bucks…..that’s crazy for such a small bottle…..other than that, if they can figure out a way to add a filtration system whereby you’re also removing particulates this could literally change the face of humanity….

      UV-C tech in general is expensive, unfortunately. There are water bottles that filter and purify, they’re just not UV: czcams.com/video/Xl2tKzhQPBU/video.html

    So technically I could fill water from a creek or pond with it and it would make it safe to drink?

    • @Terradrift
      @Terradrift  Před 4 lety +9

      Yep! When you fill the water bottle be sure to put a bandana or similar cloth over the mouth to filter out debris. We like to dry off the mouth of the water bottle to ensure there aren't any contaminates on there that don't get treated. Then just screw on the cap and set it to adventure mode.

  • @BlakeSeaman

    @Wulfdane Před 4 lety +1

    You did a great job in the video. But... The Larq is good for tap water, I wouldn’t be drinking contaminated water from it - it doesn’t really purify water as claimed (you need a filtration system for that).

    • @Terradrift
      @Terradrift  Před 4 lety

      UV-C light will kill viruses and bacteria but the bottle obviously doesn't filter out debris. Our biggest concern is the outer rim of the water bottle where the UV-C light can't reach.

      Not a gimmick at all. UV-C light has been used for years to kill bacteria and viruses in water. Larq just took that idea and put it in a water bottle. Here's an example of an old school backcountry UV purifier: alnk.to/deq1FLD

    So its 170 bucks , a plastic bottle is 50 cents, so you can buy 340 plastic bottles, the 340 plastic bottles means you need to get 340 usew out of this price wise, witch means you have 1 bottle that cant be reclycled to 340 bottles that need to be produced and can be reclycled, .....fun bottle i dont have 170 bucks, can you use this to clean the water from country's like spain were water isnt drink ready?
    Uv-c light is also bad for the skinn bye the way thats why you cant use it seperate!not only the eyes but youre skinn can get burned from it!

    • @Terradrift
      @Terradrift  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey JUR O! Unfortunately, plastic water bottles aren't sustainable, regardless of their recyclability. Many of them end up in the ocean. In addition, chemicals from the plastic can leach into it's water. Though this bottle is more expensive, it is considered a one-time purchase that will last years. This bottle kills viruses and bacteria from your water, making it safe to drink. If there are other contaminates in the water, a different solution with a physical filter should be considered. The bottle uses relatively low levels of UV-C and is designed to turn off if the cap is unscrewed during use. UV-C has been used in other handheld water treatment devices for years and has no ill effects when used properly. I hope this answers all of your concerns! ✌️
