The house, inside and out, is beautiful. It really looks like somebody will be coming home any minute. I think that feeling about a dollhouse is hard to evoke. You nailed it! The sewing and crocheting is wonderful.

Bravo on this project! 👏👏👏 What a great daddy!! 🤗 thank you for the tour! I always wanted one of these! My neighbor had one that was inherited from her momma, that her grandpa built! I loved it! Her dad hooked it up with lights, and some upgrades (new floors, wallpaper, and some furniture pieces), I was always so excited when I came over and they were working on it.

Thank you for sharing this video displaying your love of miniatures and your daughters!
I bought my first dining room set of 4 chairs and a table with my pocket money when my parents took us to visit Toronto and stay in a hotel. I was 9. 50 years later I still remember that long weekend fondly and the dollhouse furnishings collection has grown. (There's a miniature "painting" of Niagra Falls in the dining room and (although not fancy by dollhouse expert standards) the table and chairs still light up my heart.
Miniatures are a life long passion and especially so because of the personal connection to the individual pieces. Lovely to see your photos of family in yours.

Wow I just loved this. Have two sisters myself and always wanted a dollhouse, and a treehouse. My dad built a toy box probably for the oldest, Beautiful, looked like a car from a circus train with a lion in it, like the animal crackers boxes. He put two drawers in it for smaller pieces like blocks or puzzles. As kids we would empty out the toys and sit in the seat inside created by the drawers, and push each other around for rides. The wheels actually rolled, but we sort if messed them up doing that. Then my younger sister wanted to study interior design or drafting, so dad built her a OOAK custom desk with lots of shallow drawers for her writing instruments and measuring tools, a top that raised up if needed for that angled surface. Put laminated surface on it in her favorite color. She doesn't even appreciate how much effort that took. He didn't build me anything, but if I had told him I wanted a dollhouse, maybe he would have. I spent hours as a kid in the library children's section looking at books about dollhouses, how to build them and their furniture. Took woodshop in highschool, finally bought a small kit four rooms. Got overwhelmed, tried to plan making just a room box from scratch as practice for the house, my husband helped me cut the pieces with our power tools. I have a Dremel and an Xacto knife set . But STILL had trouble actually doing it . Then I saw the completed house in a consignment shop, same kit I had, and bought that. No electricity though.
I just needed a little encouragement and help, and there was none of that 😥. Marriage eventually failed
Now my stuff for crafting is stolen or in storage, craft supplies missing, I have the house. Need to furnish it because the pieces I had, sofa, shelves, are in storage hopefully. My house is painted and wallpapered, has a fireplace built in too. I wanted to paint my kit yellow with white trim, but it's blue. I want to build a base for It with maybe a basement, and drawers for extra bits and seasonal decorations. Some landscaping. a yard, a tree, with a treehouse?? My kit was a Dura Craft Lafayette model. That company is no longer in business but if you search it you'll find images of one.
I am finding tutorial channels showing how to make your own toilets from wood that look like real porcelain, opening toilet tanks and seats and lids too. Amazing artists out there. The electrical still scares me though. I need new glasses if I'm going to attempt to make my own rugs with needlepoint though. Good for you being a great dad. I wonder if you've made two more houses so each daughter can have an heirloom. I hope you've signed the bottom of of the house with the artists name, year it was was completed. Some people suggest photos of where the electrical goes so if any repairs are needed any future owner can find the wires. They really are works of art and should be signed, and insured, each piece

Miniatures and dollhouses - dreaming of them, making an occasional purchase (at thrift stores or online), and making pieces diy - these are therapy. Planning and dreaming about what should go in the house, how it could be made, etc. helped me get through some very rough times. Allow yourself that and experiment. You can do so much with an x-acto knife and cereal boxes and the cardboard from the backs of calendars. You can make a lot of "ceramic" and stoneware by making paper clay. It's inexpensive (white glue, flour or baby powder and water). Paint it with water color and nail varnish. One piece at a time.
The elecrical scared me too and so I looked online and found the LED button lights. They are individual, so you have to turn each one on, but like in real life, you usually only use one room at a time, so you only need to turn on the lights in one room and let a desk lamp mimic the sun from outside.
The important thing is to do things slowly and enjoy the process. Once the house is finished it's fun to look at, but the real joy is making the interior and treasure hunting for the "perfect" piece.
Your comment really touched me and I hope that you find pleasure and happiness soon and that exploring the possibilities of your dollhouse will help you on the way there. In the US, there are lots of opportunities for meeting other miniaturists... All the best to you.

@@patriciaheraty7380 Thank you so much. I've found a lot of miniature channels. There's an overlap with the model train and role playing games people. They all do weathering and terrain.
I found an interview with Dr. Ruth
She has several dollhouses and plays with them almost daily because it is therapy. A tiny world you can control when real life isn't.
I liked the Welcome to Marwen movie too because it's a similar idea.

    • @patriciaheraty7380

@@recoveringsoul755 Oh wow, thank you so much for sharing about Dr. Ruth! I had no idea. I just did a search and found an interview with her. Eye-opening and touching. Miniatures have always been a kind of therapy for me - you pointed me in the right direction to find out more, making it scientific.
Like you, I also appreciate the role-play and model train crowd. They have a more practical approach to miniatures (practical in the sense that it's okay to be imperfect as long as your imagination knows what you mean).
While I'm not a fairy-friend, I do appreciate the Fairy/Elf Door idea that some people create for their children, providing an "entity" to write and tell their sorrows and wishes to around the holidays. Some people are really creative in their "praise and pranks" from and by the elf.
Thank you so very much for your reply and info. It means a lot and has been really interesting to find out more.
All the very best to you!

@@patriciaheraty7380 did you see the interview with Dr Ruth where she talks about her rough childhood?
What I'm learning now is that we can help whatever trauma we're dealing with by creating something with our hands. Some people crochet, some do coloring books, I think cooking counts as an art form, gardening, flower arranging, cake decorating, painting, sculpture, drawing. Anything. We're probably subconsciously drawn to things that we need without even realizing it or understanding why.
      Good talking to you

    • @patriciaheraty7380
      @patriciaheraty7380 Před 7 měsíci +1

@@recoveringsoul755 You are so right! Years ago I read an article about how patients with PTSD are encouraged to knit or crochet - the idea behind it is that your mind is occupied by the routine movement which distracts the "trauma" processing part enough, so that you can just let the deeper emotion flow, even if it is on an unconcious level. The "doing something" physically deceives the brain and lets it process thoughts without the analytics, just flow...
I think that creative processes, like you said, give our hands something visually productive to do. I wonder if it is a kind of "soothing" us, so we can process the other thoughts. A friend of mine says she couldn't face the day if it weren't for her doodling/zentangle.
Intelligent people are always searching for causality and why... which often is a really positive and solution oriented thing, however, it can also be what stops everything else and then you just get stuck in a loop. Creativity is a bit like, forgive the terrible comparison, a laxative, to get things moving again and not getting stuck ...
Forgive me, I had some gruelling stuff for work I had to finish today and it's passed my bed time, (I'm on CET, central European time) so my metaphors are also getting a bit more creative than they perhaps should be and my brain is a bit "fried"...
Thank you - I really enjoy the exchange of ideas with you also. Have a great day/afternoon/evening.

Absolutely beautiful! The personal touches are what is important I think mostly in miniature for it is and will become a cherished heirloom. I've just started doing miniature and I just love how you have done this house!when I look at miniatures I can look at some and move on then I come across one's like yours and it tickles my soul because you can actually feel like there's a real life in there! And that's exactly what they're to make you feel. You should make a little memory book with it as welland have everyone write in there what they made and a little bit about what they were feeling when they made it. Now my big question is.. from my understanding it's important to name the house or give it a house number have you decided on what yours will be? Again what a beautiful gift you gave your daughter's .. and filled with a Father's Love. Priceless!!
