This seems like a money grab. It’s actually kinda sad that Pokémon International has the time to make 400 dollar “premium products” but can’t get quality control down on their normal sets.

Hi Will, thanks for the honest analysis. Like you, I really like playing the game, more than hoarding cards I actually prefer just to play the game and have a good time. If the cards become valuable over time that is of course a nice bonus. This is where I am. coming from.
To answer your question, if it was any other situation (e.g. a dubious investment, like a silly charizard 2020 card or a similar nonsense), then I’d defo take the £400 and build myself cool decks. But with this box it is I suppose a bit of nostalgia that and just seeing the old faces not to mention slightly less crazy numbers (back when 100hp was considered high!) definitely what makes me at least consider. The board looks nice to as do the cards themselves. Still despite this I wish it was sold at the same price as in Japan (about 200 pound/220 dollars) not £400 that is insane. Not sure whether my wallet can take such a hit. 😢 But I still want it

I’m not sure if it’s a ripoff or a good deal because I wouldn’t even spend this much, let alone a upc is already expensive but I think if you go and buy the three original cards from first edition may cost more or it may be almost the same or leas. This is for collectors only but I wouldn’t pay $399, just look at yugioh with their 3 blue eyes dragon that came with the kaiba suitcase was price around $399 as well and the japanese version dropped.
Well yea, but this doesn’t come with the ORIGINAL cards. It comes with reprints of them
For that price tag It’s definitely a ripoff. $100-150 of value max since it would be fun,has great replay-ability, and the play area/tokens are fire. But not $400 worth.
Also you can’t compare the big 3 reprints in this box to the original 1st Ed’s or any other version of them honestly. The fact that these reprints aren’t even playable in any shape or form makes them virtually worthless outside of this box. And from a collectors standpoint there are way better reprints than these that have the black text in the yellow borders.
I would not pay 400 for the box however the charizard holo looks amazing. The lowest listing I found was 130$ but after watching this I wonder if I should wait for it to go down?
Ya that charizard alone is worth over 1/4 the total cost and hundreds of cards. It’s worth it

Walmart is notoriously bad on preorders like this. Chances are they were allocated a small amount and nobody put a cap. Get ready for preorder cancelations.
One of my local stores in Germany got 50 of them and already pre-sold 40. It's quite available everywhere.

Biggest issue with this is their inability to print and cut cards that are in gradeable condition…can’t drop 400 for a bunch of miss prints

@thelowgradehero4361 It's not *just* a card game, these cards are also collectibles. The fact that they put alt arts (with exact same stats and moves as their normal counterparts) hints at this.
Not every card needs to be graded by psa just enjoy it and put it in your binder :)
Misprints are worth more tho
The fact that every single card in the box including the classic trainers and even energy cards are foil, regardless of tournament usage, these cards are rare. I think picking this up is worth it.
Charizard from celebrations worths around $70, while the other two are around $5 each, and those need to be pulled. They are going to be worth even less when you are guaranteed at least one every box. The UPC can come with four of each and you’ll still be better off buying singles.
Guaranteed every box but in a box that’s printed far less than celebrations (only the UPC of celebrations was short print and those metal zards still sell for a good amount… and they’re metal ala not as desirable as a paper card)
yeah I would use my cash towards a building my deck. it is something I plan to own to help with my loss of my original base set collection.

I know you say it's a horrible investment but I suppose I like collecting things to pass on to the kids. Time will tell if this one is a good investment or whether it's printed to oblivion!
@@damienrosario2471 i don't think its a horrible investment at all. you might have been able to get 1 cheaper, but in time, i think this box along with the mew, Charizard and celebrations UPCs will gain a lot more demand. especially this box and celebrations cause vintage. sealed collecting has really become a huge thing, and in the future people will demand the premium boxes for the unique packaging, promos and because they were the cream of the crop of the early 2020s market. look at what happened with the wizards of the coast Legendary collection.
What could have made it worth it for $400? Playable decks in current rotation with retro twist? Have X amount of booster packs? Exclusive stamped cards?

I can't justify spending $400 on this even if I had the money to do so. Now, there are some nice reprints of vintage cards and it is a pleasant surprise that these weren't just base set reprints like many assumed it was. Everything from the board to the sleeves and counters do look high quality. All that said, however, the reprints are just not enough to buy this at $400, the promos are getting separate prints later on, and I am rather iffy about quality control. For $400, I expect no defects in the product that I'm buying, especially the cards need to be absolutely pristine while in the package.
I feel like this is just not worth it and the set is way overpriced for what they are asking.
Had one at the local game store and had enough store credit to get it for a discount. I don’t play the regular tcg but I have the old cards and I just want to keep it at the house for play with friends. It’s certainly a sleek design but for sure there are absolutely cheaper options. I don’t usually spend a ton on pokemon though so i splurged
You’re right about the pringling of sc&vi. All of the cards that are nm in 20 years should be worth good money because like you said if left out they warp so fast

It’s a hard pass for me. I think with a little research for dimensions and my woodworking skills I could build one that is more “premium”. Black cherry top with some dark grey felt card slots. Maybe throw in a little dark green for the line work. May have to make that a future project. Thanks for the vid!

Southern hobby which is like THE distro for 99.9% of LGS only has 3000 to spread between every single lgs in America so DEFINITELY take that into account when saying that these are gonna be printed more then enough. We compare this to charizard box but what about the team rocket suitcase? Msrp $128 but just sold for almost $11000 a few years later. And it was 2 cards that was guaranteed with every box a cool case and some sleeves… let’s be real classic collection is gonna be a big deal and it’s clearly a big enough deal to Pokémon to have a extreme msrp. A psa 10 of a standard evo zard holo peaked at $2k? What about a sequential set of the most expensive set ever released..
You’re talking about things that can’t be quantified yet, and about grades that don’t exist. Evo zards are so expensive in a 10 Becuase the printing was so bad. We don’t know if that’s the case yet. Also, This is a gameplay box. No packs no thing inside. To collate it to the team rocket box isn’t an equal comparison imo

same here, the price is too high. also in the UK this is 400 POUNDS STERLING (that’s nearly 500 US dollars in fact). I am picturing myself playing this during Christmas with my wife whom I’m trying to get into Pokemon (she’s from China so they never had this when she was a kid) and perhaps in the future play this with my kids to show them the classic gameplay. For this price though, I am a little sad. I may still may the purchase but only when discounted.

I think for collectors all the charzards that are classic reprints are amazing cards to hold in a collection .
What makes it worth $400 is that people are willing to pay 400 for it. I do wish they made the english cards like the japanese cards though 🇯🇵
I can get this for 15% off of MSRP from my local game store, but that's still crazy expensive.
But boxes are holding around 280 to 300 right now but everyone should have waited for the hype to die down
I’m not interested in having this in my collection at all. I’d rather buy three brilliant stars booster boxes on our Pokémon centre here in the UK. If this was around £100 I’d maaayyybeeee get one to sit on the table to mess around with as a board game style product it’s like cracking out the box of Jenga or monopoly 😂 . I don’t see this as a collector piece to be honest, it’s a plastic toy.

You definitely right it’s too pricey should have been released at a cost of 150/200 most and would have been a great Christmas present for Christmas ya can’t play with any of cards outside the game board so my thoughts it should have been released for kids and got them back into the game rather than focusing on people’s shelf’s tbh… id definitely but it but not at the high cost as it not worth it

My prediction is people are gonna open them and try to grade the Zard, Venusaur, Blastoise pika and mewtwo and hope for high grades to get value return, and we’re gonna see a lot of those cards graded

Exactly, they’ve already been reprinted wayyy too many times, and honesty the best versions I’ve seen are the Japanese 25th anniversary set. Only reason the original prints are worth what they are is due to age and the nostalgia, otherwise they aren’t the greatest cards.

If I can get 1 for in the $200's, I might buy one. But in the $300's? And especially at $400 or higher? Don't need it, don't want it. Some retailers have them at $350 or so, already. The price is just going to keep going down for big box, they don't like old inventory. They will clearance it after a while, for their cost or close to it. And I agree with your $100-$150 price point. Maybe even $199. But $400? Come on. And on top of all this, I would want the Japanese version, personally.
I don’t ever see them in the 200s. Cost for stores to get them from distros was $270ish. If prices dipped that low I see stores owning them and selling/grading them singles before taking a $70+ loss

I don't think you guys understand that every card in each deck is exclusive. The holo pattern on these cards is completely unique and for anyone collecting a specific pokemon (snorlax for me) these cards are gold

i think there is a tremendous ammount of peoples who dropped pokemon in the last 2 months like way more than any other months during the last 2 years, it gonna affect the availability of products if they keep over printing, u can start seeing price of everycard literally burning to the ground, even booster box from sun and moon and xy started to drop this month.. flashfire just sold for 2600us compared to like 3300 etc...

When I heard about this I thought that the decks would have been sold like in a starter deck format. You could buy them to share with your friends and family to remember old Pokémon. When I seen the price tag, I decided to just ignore the release 😅

Magic player here… and this is way better than 30th anniversary production where you pay 1000usd for 4 packs you cannot assemble a decks with those proxys. With this one you can actually play with 3 decks. Still overpriced as I was expecting something around 200usd price tag

It doesn’t take a genius to look at this and realize $400 is overpriced. The proof is in the pudding, or eBay sold listings, so to speak
