Former police chief constable Sue Sim warns against sharing "conspiracy theories" about missing teenager Jay Slater.
The search for a British teenager who went missing during a holiday in Tenerife has entered its second week.
Specialist sniffer dogs have been flown in from Madrid to join the search for Jay Slater, as authorities continue to scour for details that may shed light on his disappearance.
Jay Slater, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, disappeared following an attempt to walk back to his accommodation after missing a bus.
The apprentice bricklayer, 19, had attended the NRG music festival on the island with two friends before his disappearance and was last heard from on Monday last week.
The walk from Mr Slater’s last known location, Rural de Teno Park in the north of the island, to his accommodation would have taken about 11 hours on foot.
A fundraiser set up by the last person to speak to Mr Slater hit its target of £30,000 on Sunday.
The GoFundMe created by Lucy Law to “get Jay Slater home” had received £33,000 in donations by Monday morning.
A post on the page from Mr Slater’s mother, Debbie Duncan, confirmed the fundraiser was “approved by our family”.

He was 16 when the offences happened in 2021. Seems to have been more like a street fight than a planned attack. I know it doesn't excuse the behaviour, but he was young and Tom isn't exactly a model citizen. Jay doesn't seem to have done anything bad since, and his current boss seems happy with his behaviour. These stories about him dealing at the resort have no evidence, So maybe people should give him the benefit of the doubt until the facts of this case come out, if they ever do.

I lived in the Canary Islands for 15 years, though never in Tenerife. But it strikes me as bizarre that someone could completely disappear in the Mountains of Tenerife. I've never heard of this before unless it was a murder and someone deliberately hid the body.

This is some awful journalism. The man clearly said in another article that he was NOT lost, and that this is being used to give a false representation of how amazing and meticulous the search teams are. Frankly, it's a load of bullshit. Spanish authorities are twisting the picture and painting themselves out to be hero's.
He can be anywhere, at this point. He could have tumbled into a deep crevice. The locals know not to walk around there. Only hikers attempt that terrain, and they have a guide with them. What possessed Jay to wonder in that is unbelievable. I think he may have gotten hit by a car, and thrown over. If that is the case, I hope someone comes forward. It could have been an accident they're not even aware of.

Exactly. Experienced hikers know their routes and which areas to avoid. Not to mention NO ONE should venture into it without a backpack with some tools and obviously water. It gets very hot during the day and it's easy to get dehydrated. Also, no hiking after a night out drinking. Alcohol dehydrates and before you know it you will be disoriented in the mountain, which may be deadly.
Why would anyone be embarressed to say they saw him? And no anything at all is not helpful. They can actually hinder things immensely. Thats why they should be on social media not being rang into police for any old bit of information that might be helfpul or might actually be a hinderence.
