      I have an ‘03 that’s built to The gills making over 700whp on a mustang dyno….the stiff chassis, stout drivetrain, ability to put big rubber on stock, & super light weight make it a perfect candidate for mod addicts. Every time before I tossed more mods/$$$ at it I’d drive some other stuff just to make sure I wanted to continue building it or “upgrade”….but the bottom line is for a RWD V8 powered car w/ a stick shift there’s still nothing out there that can compete $ for $. A C6Z is close, but doesn’t take to FI as easily as a C5Z, the heads/valve train on C6Z need work in stock trim to be reliable for instance.

Kind of sketchy on cold wet roads though. I think the C5s are the best bargain performance car on the market. I have a C6Z now and it’s pretty much “that car” you described at the stop light. It’s road manners aren’t bad but no where nearly as behaved as the C5 was. Anyway, great build and very cool car.

      You would have to get a hold of the shop for a quote (Vette Tech Motorsports). The setup was chosen by the customers criteria to have a stock sounding package that also fit under a stock hood and could safely maximize the capability of the stock engine. With first time fitment, shipping time, and unforeseen issues it took about 2 months with all the down time but next go around it could be done in about 2 weeks with parts on the table.

      Yea finding tolerable YT approved music is not my strong point. Id say a base C5 would be similar within 30hp give or take. If anything you could run a smaller pulley for more power as the bottom end is basically identical minus the slight cam and head specs. You could even crank it up more if you wanted to trade reliability for power. I think 500rwhp is a safe level for these OG LS motors. I have seen guys push a 5.7 to over 600+rw but by hanging on to a prayer.

    Funny I have this exact car to the letter, ok without the mods, I would love this type of build. I would just replace the hood with a slight high rise version to clear the supercharger, it would save time and $$. But that certainly is a sleeper! Nice work!

    So i have a 99 C5 and want to get around 400-600 to the ground while being reliable. Any tips on what would be best to upgrade to increase reliability?

    • @CamaroRick
      @CamaroRick  Před 4 lety

      they can take 500rwhp no problem in stock form. you can push them over that maybe 550 but after that your really pushing it on stock internals for a long lasting setup. The rods can break and take out the block. If you forge the pistons and rods at minimum you can push it till the sleeves crack. On a good tune that could be over 700rwhp. There are guys boosting a stock LS1 5.7 running over 150+mph in the quarter but for how long is anyone's guess. You can always re-sleeve the aluminum 5.7 blocks if you want it bulletproof and take over 1200hp

    • @carllarsen2769
      @carllarsen2769 Před 2 lety

      @Grizzy _7767 A bone stock LS1/6 can handling 700+ with boost, the only thing you need to do is gap the rings and and do a clutch to handle the added power. Simple bolt ons will get you close to 500... Aftermarket heads (NOT worked 243's) to raise compression, a good cam, long tube headers, off-road x-pipe, an intake manifold and most importantly is a GOOD tube. There are a few other mods I would suggest like a radiator, 160 thermostat and torque tube bushings for starters. I had my 02 base model at around 470 ish wheel for about 3 years before I sold it, beating the crap out of it with a single problem, but mine had PRC 2.5 243'S for budget reasons. You may also want to consider tuning it on ethanol.
