  • Sampaguita is the national flower of the Philippines and was used as theme for an hour and a half college stage play "The Loves Of Leonor Rivera" where I appeared in.... a tragic love triangle involving Dr. Jose Rizal, alleged national hero, Leonor Rivera, a reserved soft spoken maiden lass and an Englishman railway engineer, Charles Henry Kipping... felt fortunately and honored well enough to play his character on stage that forced me to learn the appropriate London accent and mannerism. Leonor's mother was a woman of steel who paid the postman to intercede the letters of Jose and Leonor. The separation had a toll on Leonor's health that led to her death upon bearing her second child. At that time, Jose had to marry an Irish woman, Josephine Bracken.
Jose Rizal was executed by the Spanish authorities on Dec. 30, 1896.
