    I’ve got a 09 6.4. Bought it new and within 500 miles the engine blew. Replaced it with a Jasper block and built it up, deleted it, H&S tuner and did every upgrade I could. 228k on it today and haven’t had a problem since. These 6.4’s aren’t as bad people make them out to be,. Just keep up on your maintenance and make sure to clean your oil, trans, intercooler and radiator every now and then.

    Wow...this is great. After seeing soooo many videos/forum posts about the horrors of these engines, its a relief to see someone who hasn't had all of the major issues. We need more videos like these. I bought a used 2010 F250 6.4L from a dealer who had the entire service history on the truck...and in fact the original owner bought it new from the same dealer I purchased it from. It had no major issues and the owner kept up with maintenance. I have since deleted the DPF, disabled the EGR coolers (via tune...but still need to delete them) and run oil and fuel additives at every change/fill up. I do oil/filter every 5k and fuel filters every 10k(severe duty maintenance schedule just to be safe) and have had no issues. Most I haul is 800 lbs and daily driver the rest of the way. I hope mine goes as far without issue like yours has. One thing...in some previous videos you mention changing rocker arms potentially...etc. Not exactly "pure" stock if you've had to get into the engine/remove the heads. Have you had to?

    • @PowerStrokeLover73
      @PowerStrokeLover73 Před 7 lety +2

      If it only had to have rockers replaced, then the heads wouldn't need to come off, I don't believe. The rocker arm tips that press against the valve bridges on 6.4 engines wear down over time and begin to tick and cause back pressure in the intake, accompanied by a popping noise through the intake. It's usually caused by lack of maintenance.

    • @kreuzrittergottes9336
      @kreuzrittergottes9336 Před 6 lety +1

      The rockers wear like clockwork I'm told. I put a non vgt turbo in and had them replace them anyway. Design flaw.

    • @jamesfaison9410

      The 6.4 PSD is a problematic engine due to its design as well as the emission controls. Front covers get cavitation in the water pump area, rocker arm bridge failures, turbo failures. I wouldn't own one. I'll stick to my 7.3....

  • @kevinoneill41
    @kevinoneill41 Před 3 měsíci +1

    Nice to see another beauty of a daily. Mine is similar to yours. The difference is mine is Blue and has single rear wheels. The same tuner is kept in stock. Unless I'm towing or hauling. The single rear wheels like to break away a little. The gears are the same 410. Would like to drop them down a notch or two. Certainly have the power to do it. But that might be$$. 136K miles this now being May 2024. I had to change the front plate and do a rear main at 72K miles. Warrenty. My thoughts are to much CC pressure in regen. All that is gone. I just added a large 4"X7" DIY catch can with a 2" deep reservoir so baffling to spread the CCV evenly through the SS pot scrubber filter system. The 1"ID tubing seems to vent the CCV and the SS wool doesn't appear to restrict the CCV at all. The Catch Can is mounted on the passenger side frame rail with 2 U bolts and saddles. It's not excessively cold here. So the engine sewage won't freeze. But I refuse to run that sewage back through my clean cold air intake. Then have it mess with my painstakingly metered air-fuel ratio. My cold starts seem better and my turbos seem to spin up better 👍 no black smoke in stop-and-go traffic the low boost fuel is set at the tuner to #2 out of 5. Still has great lift-off

    • @kevinoneill41
      @kevinoneill41 Před 3 měsíci

      PS. There is a 3/8 ball check drain valve in the bottom of the can. That I check and drain every 4K oil and filter service.
      All so a knowledgable diesel mic. Said because there is zero lube in modern diesel and if I want my HP fuel pump to last. That along with quality diesel conditioner I should add 2 stroke fuel additive. 200cc to every 16 gallons of fuel.

  • @miketaylor1220
    @miketaylor1220 Před 7 lety +7

    Keep a close eye on possibility of coolant leaking into your oil, my front cover had deep cavitation and was about to leak at just 129,000mi when I put a completely new engine/transmission in my 09' F450 King Ranch...
    I Pulled a 7K-20k Trailer every single mile in SCT "Extreme" Mode (516HP/1050TQ on the ground) for all 129k and I didn't maintain my fuel filters properly so It's short life was all my fault...
    Loved the way the truck handled massive loads so much I spent $20k+ Bulletproofing/Studding/Deleting and installing a REMOTE COOLANT FILTER after looking at 80k+ for a loaded new truck and finding out the 17' F450 would no longer have the 16,000lb dana S130 rear axle

    You're very lucky getting that kind of mileage out of a 6.4. I had an 08 that starting eating high pressure fuel pumps (one at 90k and one at 126k) along with other problems. Most of these engines grenaded in 100k - 200k mileage range. After seeing more than 50 6.7 cummins with 300,000 to 700,000 miles will very few issues, we switched our whole truck fleet to 6.7 cummins. They are much better, problem free, long lasting engines.

    Hey Ramon, thanks for the video! I also have an 08 6.4. I bought it used with 132k on it last year. Now it has over 165k and still running strong. Haven't had any problems. I change oil & filter every 5k and fuel filter every 10k. Deleted the truck at about 140k or so, can't remember. I also use Stanadyne everytime I get fuel. I still use Motorcraft 15w-40 oil cuz it hasn't given me any problems so I figured why change it.
    Any other tips you can give me??? When do I NEED to change diff oils?
    Guy I bought it from made it known that he religiously maintained the truck and he even showed me how to do everything.
    I'm hoping I get many many more miles from my truck. I use it for my hauling business. So it's tuned for towing with 70 more HP. I would say 90% of the time, it's towing at least an empty dump trailer weighing 3,800lbs.

    H&S is no longer in business. My understanding is their tuners were causing lots of serious mechanical engine failures (due to fuel timing issues). I would go back to a stock tune in anything other than a 7.3. Otherwise, there are some tuners from other manufacturers that don't have the same issues. Again though, for a 6.4, your best option (for longevity) is to avoid any tuning.

    • @eagleridge4524
      @eagleridge4524 Před 6 lety

      All states have the same fine? Anyone who removes a DPF should do it the right way, hollow out a real DPF then use it for the replacement pipe. If it looks factory, you likely pass any inspection. Putting a straight pipe that looks different is asking for a fine.

    I'm not sure why people still dog on the 6.4's. It's hard to deny that they are work horses when maintained properly. However I can say that, once the engine does decide to give you fits, it'll become the most expensive repair bill you've ever had.

    @beezy7412 Před 7 lety +2

    everybody's says the 6.0s , 6.4s , and 6.7s are shit.. well im here to tell you they are NOT! they are GREAT motors.. yes they have their weak links & a few problems. BUT!!! if you maintain them and do not, i repeat DO NOT put H&S tunning on them!!! they can last a looonnnggggg time no prob.. but ppl tune them and get them hot as shit an crack the heads and melt the pistons when they do that shit and they tear the motor up!! these are great motors. they are just ungodly expensive when they break but the suspension and interior are EXCELLENT. 2nd to none! i say this becus my old man drives ford trucks.. i drive chevy & dodge haha.. 6bts and duramax's will outlast the fords yes but the comforts and ride quality of the fords are fan-fuking-tastic!!

    • @beezy7412
      @beezy7412 Před 7 lety +1

      Ramon Sanchez i agree with you 110% brother man! im not rly into the duramax's but they are decent if you get a good one that was maintained you know? i guess thats with anything right? i just have over a million miles of working on 4bt & 6bts 12v's and early 24v's. i love straight 6 motors.. gas or diesel, i love inline 6s.. Cat nd Detroit engines are straight 6s. you know why? becus they are naturally balanced and can naturally rev higher an they dont have the close / tight ass tolerances like powerstrokes do and thats why they almost always run to half a million or even over a million miles before they are rebuilt or tossed to the side for another one.. but this guy right here knows what the 6.4 and 6.0 is capable of but ppl neglect them and treat them like the old 7.3 idi's and you just cant do that... to sensitive of a system. but when it works look out! one more thing tho.. when you goto all the big tractor pulls what motors do you mainly see? cat.. detroit. and cummins. very very very few powerstrokes.. but i say fuck it to each is their own right? take it easy man and take care of that 6.4 like you have been!!

    • @beezy7412
      @beezy7412 Před 7 lety

      Ramon Sanchez haha.. you just may have found your man then.. i used to be a big gas guy... my first car was a 72 chevy with a 350 LT1 4spd m22 rock crusher, 3.73 rear end, no a/c & no pwr brakes but it does have pwr steering tho.. anywho i still own it. bought it with cash when i was 16. i worked 5 yrs as a bus boy and food runner at a restaurant for that damn car and i drove it everyday for over 4 yrs.. damn good car.. they dont make them like they used to.. anyways ive been doing this shit for a long time now.. im 26 and i do engine & tranny swaps for alot of ppl on the side. when i was 19 i got ahold of a 92 skyline that had a straight 6 RB20 in it and i absolutely beat the piss outa that motor.. i spent over 100 hours on the rev limiter drifting that car and as long as you had oil & coolant in the engine then you just couldnt blow it up... well i sold the motor and put the 5spd trans in a Lexus LS400 i had.
      But i bought a LS1 out of a rear ended ugly yellow corvette with a t56 tremec 6spd and swapped that into my 92 skyline and then the baddest drift bitch you ever heard or seen was born!! i won many a competition with that motor & car combo.. sold it to a guy in texas who had never even saw a right hand drive car befor let alone drive one.. he drove it all the way from Baltimore Maryland to Houston Texas with no tags and only got pulled over 1 time!! hahaha email me brother man ( brant427@gmail.com ) my name is Brant. i just might be able to help you out or in the least i can point you in the right direction. just get at me an we'll go from there alright bruv? stay safe man il wait to hear from you and if i dont i will email you personally

      Yes, agreed. Ford and the others don't do what they should to clean these motors up on emissions. The DPF idea is an abortion of an idea which is anti-consumer friendly. it's a patch job and it's funded by the consumers in the USA. Complete junk just like the retro-fits the EPA forced the public to put on their 1970 gas engines, an EGR retro-fit. Heats engines up and they don't last or run correct.
      Once they figure out an internal method to reduce soot, diesels will last longer. It is totally amazing how much crap is under the hood of a Ford to make them clean.
