- Northfield Township police provided an update on a massive house explosion at a home in Whitmore Lake on Saturday that killed four people and injured two others. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Northfield Township Police Lt. David Powell. He also said that MSP and ATF giving assistance
An elderly lady 2 houses down from ours traveled to Belgium to visit her sister for 3 weeks. There were massive winds while she was gone. She got back and entered her door and simply turned on a light switch. She ended up 60 feet into her backyard against a hill. We all fell to our knees from the pressure, our piano rang for the longest time. She survived after sooo many skin grafts and moved back to sister. When we ran down to see what happened, only a slab, part of a chimney, and a bathtub remained. My Dad found her and wrapped her in her own curtains until help arrived. It’s the loudest noise I’ve ever heard. The windstorm sucked out her pilot lights, and the house was filled with natural gas. Maybe she forgot to shut it all off before leaving the country. My heart is broken for this beautiful beautiful family. I will pray for all of them.
Unbelievable! Thank you for sharing that story...🇺🇸 👍☕
I cannot even IMAGINE what that young man and his grandfather will have to deal with if they make it. God, be with them and their loved ones. 😢
I don't understand how anyone inside the home survived that. There's nothing left of the house
@@joeyanthony7831 I agree!
@JOJO-fi4yr Not even joking, apparently the youngest son of the family is in stable condition. He had to have been in the backyard or at the end of the driveway getting the mail or something. He's guaranteed never hearing again for sure.
@@joeyanthony7831 I thought that he must not have been somewhere on the property myself. Maybe with his grandfather, since he survived too? I didn't think about his hearing being lost, but I bet you're right. The uphill battle mentally, emotionally and physically will change this young man. I feel so heartbroken for him.
How terrible , my heart goes out to the survivors.
This is truly a tragedy of the highest scale , im so sorry for the indescribable loss of life ..i hope we find out why this house exploded , and relatives of the family can get financial help ..this is gonna be very expensive also extensive trying to figure out life after something like this ....theres no playbook on how to recover after an accident but i truly hope they can find peace and alot of help in every way
Propane leak most likely flowing around the whole house something in the basement ignited the explosion. Some dude posted seconds later on twitter, a huge light orange cloud was just flowing up in the sky and it wasn't fire. Probably the gas chemicals
The kids attended Monticello school district in Monticello Arkansas . They were visiting for Christmas . Pray for the family and friends . My home town is in mourning and praying for them.
Prayer's for everyone. My God this is so horrific... May God help heal this most tragic incident, and the ones who survived...We are so devastated here in Michigan....🙏🙏🙏🙏😥😥😥😥😥....
This is my cousin Don & family. Very sad and shocking. I keep thinking about it a lot. 😢 they were very kind people.
Sorry for your loss, prayers and Blessings to family. 🙏💖
My condolences to your family
I’m always amazed at how government officials can call a press conference and talk on for a half hour…to say nothing.
This isn't the first home this year that has blown up infact its happened several times. May God be with them and RIP lost souls. 🙏
Prayers for the family so very sad
Natural and propane gas in the right mixture can cause an explosion. But this can be avoided. All homes using gas should be required to have a detection system that will alarm and turn off the gas supply. I use gas and I do have a system that turns off the gas and sounds an alarm. The US government has created many codes regulating gas systems but none requiring a detection system.
Propane is high heavy high density, therefore it would have stayed in the cellar or the lowest part of the house.... that would explain why it look like it blew in the ground and you would think of 50-year-old man could smell it, most of these incidences have been taking place at night also.... therefore you would need to place these in every room an open space in the house and run them all to a detection system you can hear
And it is all quite doable. I made my own system. I have a detector in 6 rooms. The system will detect gas that most cannot smell. It turns off all gas and sounds a loud alarm. The detectors are small arduino modules that also detect methane. And hair spray! Propane has an added odorant and is very noticeable. Those folks must have all been asleep. @@lynch6642
God bless us all.condolences for family and community
All of MI mourns with & for them, also for all of the 1st responders. I can tell this is also very traumatic for you. I can see a bunch of exceptional people that still wear your badges with honor. My grandmother worked as a nurse in the hospice unit at Wyandotte Hospital 🏥 until she retired & she cried for everyone of her patients that passed on. Yet she she was able to get up the next day, like you all do & push on to help the next people, thank you. Lately we've been seeing such a great side again of all law enforcement that we've all missed to hopefully get rid of these other bad "players".
😢 So sorry to the family again for your loss they're no words but I will share your Go Fund Me Page 😢
The large propane tank on the property remained visibly intact.
Don't people have on-site tanks if they don't have a natural gas hook-up?
@LoriKasprzak-yk6nc I've never had a propane tank even when I lived an hour & 10 minutes away from Detroit in a VERY rural area I lived in a big old farm house on a dirt road & couldn't even see another house & we still had gas hookup🤷🏼♀️❓️
Rip to all of them keep your head up family 🙏❤️🌄🏞️
Why are all the houses exploding lately ? 😢
“Get your gas appliances checked”. UPGRADE! New stuff has “safety features”, that the old ones don’t. Get C02 alarms, and smoke alarms. Ten of them! 7:20
How about you provide them? Not everyone can just get new stuff, especially while our country is struggling under the current regime.
I wouldn't think you couldn't walk around the house and broad daylight and have it bad enough to explode, my thinking is, it started in the basement with a propane leak, it's high density and stays low to the ground, the reason they couldn't smell it and probably the reason someone cut the ground around the house with a skill saw
Pray for this family. Just be ready to go at a moment's notice. Call on the name of the LORD JESUS CHRIST and thou shall be saved. There is just something wrong with someone who says ummmmmm and aaaaa all the time. So sad. They really need a better talking police man for the public.
Being saved requires more than “call(ing) on the name of the LORD JESUS CHRIST”.
Read the Bible and educate yourself.
I would have that scene thoroughly investigated by more than one agency, before assuming it was a fuel& air explosion; there is a lot of unburned debris and a wider field of debris, than a typical fuel & air mixture explosion would create!
Air to surface missile is what it looks like Follow the evidence
You can smell gas! If you smell gas in your home, open all the doors and windows immediately and call the fire department!!! If you can get to it safely, shut the gas off at the meter or propane tank.
Lord have mercy
God bless the victims 🙏
Steven was my classmate I feel sadend by this I pray for the faimly
God the Holy Spirit bless the survivors as only He can.
Left the gas on. Where is the detector/alarm as we do for smoke in a home?
Fuel n air does that, no resident home has that type of gasoline to cause that
Not gasoline, propane or natural gas!
They look like they were bothered to be up there..
They look shaken, like they were trying to hold back their emotions. The son was having surgery and who knows if he has limbs lost, or what he’s been told yet. If hes not in a good place mentally, that can affect his surgery.
Traumatized is what I see. This was a small community. These responders probably knew the owner personally.
So why ? what happened ? WTH !
He's being deliberately evasive about the case... I'd suggest the Gas Company told him NOT to speculate as there may be a large lawsuit in the future... that massive an explosion would have taken a lot of leaking gas... and with 6 people in the house, someone would have smelled it... or to put that amount of gas into the house there could have been a ruptured line and instead of evacuating they may have tried to find out where it was coming from... they know where the explosion started by what debris is left in the basement...
Or that Tesla charging in the garage
18 years in propane delivery and service here. Sometimes in rare situations a propane company can get a delivery of NON odorized propane by mistake. Regulations require that when a truck is loaded before the day's deliveries you perform a "sniff" test to ensure that it stinks. Not saying this is what happened, but it sure could have if the gas had no odorant.
The Whitmore Lake area has a long history of fuel mishandling hijinx. My old hometown.....
In the photos, it's apparent this home uses propane and the explosion occurred closes to the propane tank. My guess is the furnace or lines to it were leaking. A CO2 detector placed in the basement might have saved this family.
That 500 Propane tank is still standing without a mark on it.
That blast went off in the basement.
Thats what I'm saying. Check out the photos online. A tank is to be placed a safe distance from the home incase of an incident like this.
@@Harley.DavidsonI 100% agree, it was the only thing still standing... probably leaked in through the pipe near the basement and it is a high density and stays low to the ground.... they also have propane alarms and need to be installed in every open space in the house and low to the ground, much unlike smoke detectors that need to be higher.... but you know he was a 50 year old man, amazing he did not smell it, both natural gas and propane are easily detectable through the nose, I was raised on a farm and I remember we went away to Oklahoma for a weekend and came back and my dad could clearly smell it the second he opened the front door and it wasn't near bad enough to explode
judging by the looks of debris, it is surprising any one at all could have survived.
Some utility hookup are questionable
So sad condolences to tge families🙏
There's absolutely positively no way that was methane or propane or any other kind of petroleum gas only termite does such a thorough job of shredding stuff like that
Such a terrible tragedy. Propane is heavy. It could have formed a layer near the floor in the basement. This is what a large propane explosion can look like.
Propane is high density and stays low to the ground, this probably started leaking in the cellar, they have propane detection alarm but you need to put them in every open space and low to the ground much unlike smoke detectors and they need to be heard
Some inspectors and contractors are going to be getting in trouble
That was an older house. Probably hasn’t seen an inspector or contractor in years. Probably just old mechanical parts and a lack of safety dealing with gas appliances. Unfortunate.
It only takes 15% fuel to air mixture for the biggest boom you can possibly get and that house had propane tank ! There needs to be mandatory combustible gas detectors in every house so nobody else dies because if this happens even one time that’s one too many
Propane already has a "built in" leak detector. It is amended with a compound that gives off a strong unpleasant odor of "rotten eggs" that is nearly impossible to not notice.
At night it would be more believable, but in broad daylight and people in the house and couldn't smell it? Awfully strange...... if you know better and was raised on a farm that is
How horrible. What can be said to express proper grief?
Another one?!?!?
Fuel air explosion, natural gas?
wonder if they have ruled out Carbon monoxide - itself is neither flammable nor explosive. However, it can support combustion and is highly flammable in the presence of oxygen.
No carbon monoxide is not! This was a natural gas or propane explosion!!
Looks like Portland
Whitmore Lake will never be as "developmentally delayed" as Portland
Looks like a bleve explosion.

Michigan people are so dumb the reelected her
Yeah, because house explosions don't happen in conservative states, right?
Lesa you should do your part for the betterment of the U.S. and move out the country.
