"Down With Disease" from Phish "Star Lake 98" 2-DVD Set, recorded 8/11/98 at Star Lake Amphitheatre, Burgettstown, PA - released December 11, 2012 and available for pre-order now: bit.ly/starlake98
I was there, and it was an EPIC run ... in fact the 97-99 summer tour stops that ran through Raleigh/VA Beach/Merriweather were some of the best Phish shows ever.
Got a real bittersweet feeling watching this. Can't wait for MSG but man, thinking back.....for those that were there in the mid-late 90's.....life changing. Wouldn't trade that time in my life for anything. "we're coming to your town, we'll help you party down!" Thanks guys.
91 was the best year until 92. 92 were the best year until 93. 93 was the best year until 94. My point is, every year Phish plays IS the best year, so long as you are there. And if you're watching this then you are here now, which is a damn good place to be! Next Friday will be my 21-year anniversary seeing Phish.ive seen more shows than I will ever admit to, was blessed to be 1 of 200 at the Crest.Still, I wouldn't trade any of my previous shows for the 3 nights at Dicks.Thats how good they are!
Dude, everyone knows their best years were the '79-'81 run. Sooooo funky. I was at Veterans Stadium for the 6/12/81 show, and as legend has it, Trey was on 4 tabs of acid at that show and that's why it's agreed upon that their best "If I Could" into "Stash" was from that show.
We jumped on at Polaris and got off after that stellar weekend up north in Maine. It seemed like every night they broke new ground, took is some higher direction, a place we'd never been. And then less than a year later we met the boys in Bonnet Springs and I could tell it was all over....sad really.
Thanks for sharing. I just spent about 20 mins trying to figure out that lick at 9:50. It's so ridiculous. Of course the camera cuts away from him right before haha.
I've always said Vernon Downs '98 was the best show I saw in person (60+ shows). Some classic covers. La Grange opener. The whole Frodo band story and then......Ramble On! One of the best nights of my life. So good I decided to bag the long drive to Lemonwheel thinking it couldn't get any better than what I had just seen.
Agreed! This was the peak! After Summer Tour 1998 it was never the same. Don't get me wrong, they are still THE best live band out there, but that Fall 1997 Funk! And the Providence 1998 shows were the best I had ever seen or heard the boys! Maybe one or two shows here and there in different years stand out.... but they were ON in 1997 and 1998..... It was always a good show..... I hope I get my Hollywood Bowl Tickets! I haven't seen them in a while!
The back to back shows at 8/8/98 Sabotage Merriweather and 8/9/98 Terrapin Virginia Beach were two of the best shows I ever went to in succession. Check out the Sneaking Sally from 8/8/98 and the AC DC Bag from 8/9 at all costs. God what a blast that was. Miss those days.
To all the Bolivian marching powder comments ... First, love it. Hilarious. Great stuff. Second, if you were at that show, or look at the setlist, the second set was chill factor 11. No way they could have been tweeking. And after that mellow set, they better have opened up the throttle to close the set down. Third, DWD can never be played too fast. Cheers. 👍🏻 Edit: It can certainly be played too slow. This feels about right. Just too bad they broke off the jam a bit early, potentially. Edit 2: Okay, fine. I went and listened to a couple other versions I also like, and they can take it back just a touch and still be good. But this tempo kicks arse too. My opinion.
Page from 8:26 - 8:52 set the tone for the rest of the jam. He never gets enough credit. He had the energy (probably got it from Fish) to get everyone else there to the top
1997 summer through 1998 summer Europe included and every single show in between... if I only had a time machine. This IS phish!!!! Can't wait to bomp the sh|t out of the wolfmans-> TLAH and the long waited GUMBO on the on the bonus disc. I preordered knowing gumbo would be on it.... Kevin knows what's up!
This has clearly been slightly sped up. The song is not usually this fast. Please fix the track, as I love this song but the recording is way off on speed, making it rather uncomfortable to listen to.
I love Trey's improv on that amazing guitar, but... come on... Page is KILLING IT!! A little love, please???
My first Phish show,,Omg I never looked back since 98' It was spiritual!
I was there, and it was an EPIC run ... in fact the 97-99 summer tour stops that ran through Raleigh/VA Beach/Merriweather were some of the best Phish shows ever.
this DWD doesn't get enough love...
I feel like they're playing it a tad fast. I could be wrong but the verses seemed rushed.
@@benringenberg2367 that's what's so epic about it, followed by such a surreal uptempo blissful jam to mellow back out
98 was a stellar year...love the spacey funk vibe. Wish we could have kept going after Merriweather.
ill never forget this show....my first and it made me a phan for life!
Was there, did my first "tour" that summer, 7 shows, Merriweather to Lemonwheel. What good times.
I must be getting. Just realized this is 14 years old. The summer of funk changed my life
Now it's 26 years old.

Oh. Without a doubt. And that raging Down on Thunder Island>Blue Bayou was impeccable.
Phish in ‘79? Right.

😂😂😂😂🤣😝🤣😝🤣😝🤣👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🏆💯🍻👍🏻
I've never seen Phish live in any decade but the 1990s, and I'm frankly ok with that.
We jumped on at Polaris and got off after that stellar weekend up north in Maine. It seemed like every night they broke new ground, took is some higher direction, a place we'd never been. And then less than a year later we met the boys in Bonnet Springs and I could tell it was all over....sad really.
Is that what they said?
How can I love them so much and still not make it out to a show!?
Thanks for sharing. I just spent about 20 mins trying to figure out that lick at 9:50. It's so ridiculous. Of course the camera cuts away from him right before haha.
Damn that boy good

Trey wipes the jam drool at 10:32
Haaaaaaa!!!
Best dwd. Sugarbush 1994. Golgi opener to show. Then goes into no2. It's sick.
I like when Mike is playing more notes than Trey

Did they all gack rails before DWD?? Jeeeesus that's fast!!
boogah sugah!
Yes. Next question.
Listen to it from the start, obviously. But then 3:15 and just watch the magic
love that bass .................
When phish Scared Me !I thought they were Robots or something from out of this world!!!lol........
The night after 8/12/98 Vernon Downs was the show of the tour. They should've done a double release with these two.
"Vernon down the house" :) Man that field was crazy muddy!
Tomorrow!! It’s been too long! See ya there 😉
❤

I was at this show and it wasn't this fast!

Page and Fishman always led the great jams. Trey is actually their weakest musician originality wise, but he makes up for being a good on follow up
and everything is right with the world
Who's watching this in 2018?
I haven't yet but I certainly might. I will bookmark it.
This was the day after my 22nd Birthday. Terrapin Station encore the show before, birthday off, 8-11-98 opened with Trenchtown Rock. Great Tour
Me.

That is some raging disease!
Pittsburgh! Lets go Pens!
Were they in a hurry, trying to make the airport after the gig in time?😁
FYI: DVDs are 4:3.

Who is tired of veggie burritos? We have meat!
This song is like 18 minutes long btw
*Sigh*...I know...I PERFECT song...SHIT ON by the jameffect..
This has clearly been slightly sped up. The song is not usually this fast. Please fix the track, as I love this song but the recording is way off on speed, making it rather uncomfortable to listen to.
Well, wrong. It's the cocaine.
The recording isn't sped up, just the performance. No two are alike, a real Phish Phan would know that though...
Are they in a hurry to get the song over? They sound all coked up. haha.
Way to fast.
fist
WAAAAAYYYYYYY TOOOOO UP-FUCKING-TEMPO!!!!
