I could not agree with you more about this..I run a mobile stringing service in London and sometimes the talking about strings choice takes longer then actual stringing process but I'm very happy as I can meet my clients and give them advice in base of the racket, strings and level of playing also weather can play a very important role especially if you're a big RF fan...😅

Excellent subject Jonas. Would you say, generally speaking, that most major racket company's rackets match up well with their own strings--for example Yonex rackets combined with Yonex strings, Head with Head, etc?

I think if i'm making a racket, i wouldn't go buy competitor's strings and make adjustment for my racket based on that string. Especially, if other string manufacturers decide to change the formula or drop the product line. That's being said, personal preferences are different for each person so there is no wrong answer here but rather a trial and true process. If you want to get the starting point of a racket, use the same manufacturer strings and of course middle string tension.

I don´t agree. For example: put the best string on a wooden racket, you won´t ever get your best tennis. Rackets are very important, and strings too. And don´t forget the string job. In reality it´s a triad: racket/string/string job.

Extreme tour user, ytex square x mains/gamma ocho tnt2 shaped syn gut crosses. Strung Sergetti method, really can’t fault it, most importantly for me is it is easy on the arm and still provides good spin & control on full swings. I string myself so would second that recommendation to enable experimentation (I have tried a lot of set ups to find one I’m happy with)

Hi Jonas, I have been watching your videos for a while now and I usually watch your reviews before buying something new. Recently I bought a NOS Dunlop max 400i and strung it with prince synthetic gut duraflex 16 with a tension of 48lb. I tried hitting it in a session once and it felt really good, but later I did not realize that the stringer strung it as 14x18 instead of 16x18. Will it pose a problem for my old racket? Thanks in advance!

Do you think the 360+ Extreme Pro is string sensitive. And what string would be your recommendation. I‘m switching from the Gravity MP with YPTP Yellow 1.20 24/23 to the Extreme Pro. But i didn’t like the YPTP that much in the Extreme. I have a mix of flat and spin oriented strokes and strung the Pro with Hyper G @ 24kg to test it tomorrow.
I liked Hyper G Soft 1.25 and its ball pocketing but i strung it a bit low at 21kg.

This is so true and so frustrating. I’m shopping for a new racquet now. I have demoed the Speed and Radical twice. The first time they both had multi strings and I loved the Radical and I liked the Speed but wasn’t blown away by it. The second time the Radical had multi and the only Speed I could get had a Prince Poly in it. The Radical was strung so tight I couldn’t even move the strings, it felt like a board. The Speed was amazing with the poly setup. Two demos and two completely different outcomes because of how they were strung

What is the purpose of shaped polys? I don't think is the bite on the ball but more likely the interaction with the other string. Maybe the fact that the string is thinner compared to the gauge it's marketed for? That is a topic I am interested in being myself an avid intermediate club player and a beginner stringer.

Tried this the other week and the feel felt amazing in my phantom 100 but playability was poor with almost no bite on the ball. I cut it out after one session. There’s a reason the pros stick with the same racket and strung once they find the right combo.

Thanks again Jonas, loving the return to the Tennisnerd accompanying soundtrack!🙂 Agree with importance of string selection, the equal of ensuring footwork is where it should be. The other thing to be wary of is when you find a string and tension that works for you to resist the temptation to want to keep searching in the hope of finding something that’s supposedly incrementally better.

I have a generic question that troubles me and is about strings. I understand that you can add lead tape in your racquet and depending on the position it will a change the balance. It will definitely increase the swing weight also, no matter where you add the lead tape. My question is the following: when I string with a thicker gauge doesn’t the racquet increase weight, swing weight and becomes more head heavy? Which strings you believe are heavier than the average string?

I disagree with a). Ilie Nastase lost a Wimbledon final, because his favorite racket was strung too tight, he didn´t change the racket for another with less tension. (TENNIS MAGAZINE, 1984). I had to buy myself a stringing machine because nobody I met could satisfy me with the string jobs. Now I can´t complain. When other people strung my rackets, I often lost matches because bad string jobs.

I feel string choice is important, but too many rec players copy pro set ups of thier favorite players. I also think rec players do not give a string enough time to really dial in on how it plays. Once a rec player finds somthing, the player should consider staying with a familiar set up. Switching all the time does not help to sustain results.
