The name of the buried child is Jakob/Jacob. The band mentioned the name when they told that they had to convince Till not to let the child ("little Jacob") die. Therefore Till added the following lines to the lyrics:

Y’all should check out more of their music videos, their creativity and production value is just something else. They never stop being entertaining no matter what they’re doing. My personal favourites of their videos are Mein Teil, Mann Gegen Mann, and Rosenrot
Hidden gem indeed! The intro gets you so pumped and then that chorus is a thing of beauty! "Zwitter" is another amazing hidden gem and the one that follows this one in the album Mutter. Great reaction!

Certainly one of the less noticed songs by RAMMSTEIN - thank you for taking the time to respond.
And the occasion respectively the topic of the song is unfortunately one which is all too often hushed up in public: Sexual abuse of children. In this context, the children's verse "Hoppe, hoppe, Reiter" also gets a very, very bitter aftertaste. In case this is not known in the USA: The child sits on the thighs of an adult, who makes it "hop" to the verse "Hoppe, hoppe, Reiter" (= "hop, hop, rider") just like a rider on a horse. It doesn't take much imagination to see how this fits in with the theme of "sexual abuse".
And to this then also fits the line "... nur der Regen weint am Grab ..." (= "... only the rain cries at the grave ..."): While at the real funeral of a child naturally - so far, so sad - many people stand at the grave and cry, the sexual abuse (and the "death" of the child's soul) remains all too often unseen. And then there is no one who is there and cries or shows sympathy.
In general, it is true for many RAMMSTEIN songs that there is much more behind the actual lyrics than it seems at first glance.

The child wakes up in the grave, winds the music box and hopes that someone outside will hear him.
On a Protestant holiday, "Totensonntag," graves are visited in Germany to commemorate the dead, and in the process they heard "a melody in the wind", discovered that it came from the child's grave and freed it.

This is one of my favorite Rammstein songs and another hard to find one is called Alter Mann... i’ve only found one live recording of it on CZcams and the quality is not great but it’s an amazing song and they don’t play it anymore either live. Would be nice if they brought it back though because I’m gonna be seeing them in September and it would be amazing to hear that live

Love the mutter album so much. Back in those days it was kind of a new direction they were taking with a different vibe you'd usually feel in the Herzeleid and Sehnsucht albums.
For next time can you please do "Amour" from Rammstein, it is for me one of the most underrated songs of them.

This is basically a dark fairytale. Till starts off the track, like someone reading a story to a child. It's pretty dark, but the original versions of many of the well known fairytales we all heard as kids are a lot darker than the versions told to us.
