We're often asked why we don't get Andy an autism service dog - and the simple answer is the waiting list was so long that we decided to just get a family dog and hope that Andy would bond with him. We've heard lots of stories of autistic children bonding better with dogs than humans, and we hoped for the same with Andy and Dave.

Anna deserves some credit for keeping you at it remember you thinking about ditching the vlog a month ago lol enjoy watching all the highs and lows of a family with all the funniest added in, it's a good watch with a cup of tea.

I'm quite new to your channel, been following along since you guys visited LEGOLAND Windsor Resort. I work there as a Signage Artworker! It was cool seeing you all move around the different parts of the park and good to hear that you had a fun day! Since then I've just began watching your daily vlogs and here we are today!

Training with Dave to learn how to not jump on people, also get excitement levels down may help.
+mika Jade yeah, itâs on the to do list, but quite a low priority at the moment. As things continue to improve with Andy and we get more time for other things, then weâll figure out how to do some training with Dave.
Dave is a sweet dog. I love his name. I'm not a dog person at all, but we do have one, a cat, and a bunny. My son doesn't play with them really. Here and there, he does walk by them and give them a little pet. He seems to take to the cat a little more. Sometimes uses the cat as a pillow lol

Having been a lurker on your stuff for a few years now, (I bought Mature..... that must be worth a bit of tat from a loot crate as compensation) itâs great to see things taking off and feels like you have hit the right balance on the vlog. Hope you keep it going, itâs now a bit of a ritual for me each day. Donât give up the podcast though.

I just realized I have been watching for a month or so but was not subscribed! So yesterday I think it was I subbed. I originally found this channel because of it being on my list. I lke to watch a channel called FatheringAutism and that is probably how You Tube picked up on my interest in learning more about autism :)

I have autism/aspergers and grew up with lots of pets. I didnt bond that much with most of them. But there was one dog, Harry, who i bonded with as soon as i saw him. And i have my two cats now who love to cuddle with me. I do love animals and im doing my best to understand them more. I like to try speak their language, like slow blinking with cats, to try communicate better with them.

Just a suggestion, but dogs need to be trained while they are young. You can't leave it for later. You can do it yourself (search stonnie dennis on YT) or take him to a trainer and have them do it if you don't have time. You want calm behaviour while you are filming? You need to train him to know what is acceptable behaviour. A bit of effort in the beginning leads to a lifetime of mutual love and respect.
It's a pity that it didn't work out with Andy and Dave. We're about to get a pup and I'm worried my ASD 4yo won't like her. Oddly enough he loves horses but he's wary of our current chihuahua. lol
our family springer made an appearance in our upload today too haha :D
I have 2 cocker spaniels and they help with my anxiety. Also i had a Labrador and she was with me sins i was born and she helped and when she died i was so sad
Dave is so cute
Dave is a gorgeous dog, and will be easy to train. Gundogs are the group of the best family dogs in terms of temperament, retrievers, spaniels, setters, etc would fall into the category. They tend to be very food motivated and eager to please making training a piece of cake. I'm a veterinary nurse and have a Welsh springer spaniel and a working cocker spaniel, had them both fully trained by 6 months old. You will find that when you put some work into training Dave it will make him more contented, and more calm. Which might help if he is going to interact more with Andy. If you have Dave trained and able to respond to commands like sit wait lie down get out heel etc, Andy might enjoy a sense of control and response from him, obviously that's hard to judge until it happens (lol). I recommend revolution dog training here on CZcams for a visual guide, he's very good. You do all you can for Andy and I honestly have a lot of respect for you taking good care of Dave and allowing him a good home life with garden space to enjoy, even with Andy to care for full time. Well done mate x

I was like that with by dog called Alfie and I canât stand people watch me eat and he is trained but bout specialists we say no we are eating but it was also because of how I sat on the chair. I have autism by the way

Hes a lovely dog gun dogs are brilliant and take to training really well it is a shame andy hasnt really. Taken to dave my sons dog is not a service dog shes a staffy but she has made a huge difference to matts life sje knows when hes winding up for a mwlt down and will press against him matt strokes his ears and it calms him down

Well nice that the vlog is getting seen more, its quality just continues to improve. My hubbs is a footy fan so we ( my girls and I not so much...we are more holosexualsđ) found you that way and we've told all in our ASD groups to check the vlog out. Its nice to see good things happening for good people.

Strange how it went with dave and Andy. I'm the more typical autist when it comes to dogs. They cannot leave me alone! BUT if a pet is caught watching me eat, even in someone else's home, it will be ejected from the room!

I know a lot, but to connect Autism and pets is something which goes outside of my box. I know a lot of autism, because I work with disabled people in general, amongst these people are also autistic people. I know a lot about dogs, because I do have a course to become a part time dogtrainer and they have always had my interest. From what youâve described so far, I think Dave tried to figure out how to deal with Andy by staring at him as a puppy. Dogs are masters in body- language and Dave felt some sort of rejection from Andy back in his early years. That can be through body language, or just by behaviour. Or feelings, feelings we are familair with aswell, something like: okay, nice guy. Iâll accept you, but that is it as far as the connection goes. There is respect, there is acceptance from both sides, but love..... No.
I am just trying to imagine what an amazing job it is, to get dogs familair with disabled people, like people with autism. To find the right dog, the best breed to do it. This video ones again makes very clear that not all dogs are compatible to do that job.
That not all disabled are in need of a pet to help them out. There has to be a certain âclickâ in advance, otherwise it just doesnât work.
Dave, a great dog. Andy, a great kid. But together they are not a team, but each for themself a part of one family.
Dave is a cute dog think he's great I love dogs. I think your videos are great I started to watch your vlogs recently when I saw Andy refusing to go school because my son is refusing to go to School I think he is on the spectrum because of his behaviour
