Just got my 2001 BMW R1150GS and rode it 21 miles today. Riding and handling this big machine is not as easy as appears in this video. I am 67 and this big bike intimidates me during full stops. This is a very tall motorcycle. It is somewhat top heavy and really taxes the less than taller rider. I am 5-9 with a 30" inseam. At my size/height no smaller rider would fit this motorcycle. I recommend this bike only to riders with 34" inseams. The BMW R1150GS performs very well. It will do most anything asked of it and then some, but it is NOT a motorcycle for beginners. I find it much more difficult to handle than say a vintage Honda CB450. This mostly due to the bigness of this machine also the huge amount of torque and power. I will press on until I get good at riding my BMW!

I just came to this topic and noticed your message. What happened to GS? Do you still have it or sold it already?

It seems you didn't keep it long. Can I ask why? I want to find out your reasons, we are about the same height (and similar age I think). If GS is not for me perhaps I shouldn't consider buying it.@@charlesfoster141

@@deepdiver1069i've been riding GS's 1100, 1150 and 1200 for the past years. I'm 5"9 with 31inch inseam. After a while you get used to the height, weight and power of the bike. If you're really intimidated by the r11xx series, go for the early r1200, they are lighter and feel more nimble. I stay with r11xx because i simply love them.

I have an R-1100-GS from '96 and 136.000km. I've trying hard to break it since then. The only thing that failed was the starter motor once at 98.000km.
