Teaching My Girlfriend How to Ride a Dirt Bike

- Pretty much ever since we first met, my annoying girlfriend Nicola has been hounding me to teach her how to ride a dirt bike… But I’ve seen enough of those whiskey throttling through the garden fence videos to know that it doesn’t always go well. And it’s for this reason that I’ve been hesitant to let her try, however her nagging’s persisted for over two-and-a-half years now so to be honest, I just got sick of it! And that’s how we got here, in the flattest paddock I could find on short notice, and with granddad’s old Honda CRF230 (literally the perfect machine for the job)… now it was just up to her.

Bit of a change of pace but I trust you guys'll enjoy it! I'm sure you can all remember your first rides (I fell off going over some pinecones on my CRF50 and cried for 10 minutes even though I wasn't hurt).

Haha, ”Im in third!” So adorable ! But she really is a natural! Damn I didn’t even learn that fast when i started. Was on a 1980 rm80 though with no low end torque and i guess she learned cluth control in a car with a manual transmission
Good one mate!...Just a safety note, get her to tie her hair up, if for some reason she drops the bike she could get her hair cought up in the chain and sprocket.

I grew up in an extended family of motorheadz. I was about 12 or 13 when my much older Hell's Angel cousin "taught" me how to ride dirt bikes in the woods of Michigan. His method - "keep up, ya little shit." I fell a lot (no help from the big galoot), I learned, but I would have learned much better with Ash as my cousin lol
You should make a series so we can see a beginners progression!!!
I agree, I remember my first time on a dirt bike, it was a small 50cc one and I did half the things wrong but I loved every second of it. Drove around for more than half the tank and still didn't want to stop. Good times :-)

My dad taught me how to ride when I was 10. I was wearing tennis shoes, pajama bottoms, a t shirt, and some old helmet he dug out of the attic. It was on a 2014 crf 125f. I'm 14 now riding a 2005 crf250x.

Thank you both for reminding me that it doesn't take a $10k dirtbike, and another $3-4k in aftermarket modifications to find joy on two wheels, and for helping me re-live my dirt bike beginnings vicariously through Nicola.

Get her a helmet that fits. And also let me know where and when I should drop my wife off in Nelson for your new all inclusive ladies on dirt bike boot camp. I think a month or 3 in NZ would be just the right amount of time for you to turn anybody into a pro.

They say it's 14.9 horses to one horsepower that's crazy cuz it really depends on your gear ratio. And that was one good take off for being her first time most people do not get the concept of letting the clutch out slowly as you increase the throttle slowly that was a+

this could make an awsome series, with time inbetween to account for the learning curve, could be all the way from the basics too a full blown trail ride with hill climbs and log hopping n shit and all the other confidence buildung stuff
I did one lesson of coaching on a hire bike bc my parents don’t have the money or land to do it but it was so hard to keep a steady throttle

I started out on a Kawasaki KD 80 at 4 years old and a pair of Adidas Shell toes and an old probably 10 year old snowmobile helmet I wish I would have had the luxury of having boots and a real helmet and some goggles that would have been real nice LOL

I had a girlfriend who wanted to ride a bike (street though) and wanted me to teach her. Unfortunately I have the teaching skills of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, so she never got her license and I had to ride the bike she had bought 🤣
