    Great car! We had a 1965 when I was a kid, replaced in 1972 by a Peugeot 304 wagon, if you can believe that. Ours was the same color as yours ("Sand"?), with caramel colored seats. My dad loved it, my mother not so much--she was very short and said that she felt like she was sitting on the floor, and the outboard handbrake always snagged her stockings. But it was a well-built, reliable, roomy car that only rusted a little in New England. We all thought it rode hard--only recently did I learn that the wagons had higher spring rates than the sedans. Your restoration is beautiful and you've made some smart modifications.

    I’m in the capital of Australia. We lovers of real Volvos are spread afar.
    I was once in an underground car park in Gothenburg. One just this style was there. Dusty. Perhaps a storage agreement with the hotel owner?
    Someone had used their finger to write in the dust. I did not read or write, Swedish, many languages, as well as I do know.
    I wrote the word down (1988; a File O Fax was still a useful tool).
    Back in the hotel, asked a cleaning lady what the word meant?
    “It is the Swedish word for ‘ugly’” 😞.
    Since then, since my first 140 series in Copenhagen (an approx $200 saloon in blue with the chrome front grill; very early; ex taxi); I have loved ‘real’ Volvo.
    After 121 days trapped in a room, bedbound, in the UK, as close to death as I have ever been;
    1: I’m glad to be home in Australia. Thank you PM Scomo: you are the man.
    2: Thank you for uploading this. You just made my day:week/month. I have never been for a drive in one.
    3: Thank you for the virtual drive in one; man, that B20 sounds sweet and tight and healthy. Is the O/D electrical?
    4: You have given me inspiration to retire Vernon II; my ‘85 B23E for a while and:
    5: Get myself healthy so that I can take my 1970 140 4 door in white, out of storage. I have no name for the car yet.
    It had one owner before be. Everything is original. I live in a ‘km’ country but the speedometer (not round, radio tuner style), is in miles. 72,356.
    Engine is good, but due to stood a long time, fuel line blocked. I run from small tank to carb.
    Think the diaphragm in engine mounted very basic mechanical pump may be no good (it’s 50 years old after all).
    Rear gearbox oil seal leaks a little bit: 50 years again.
    All electrics, upholstery, springs, structure, fine.
    A question:
    Should I start to put stuff about the car on my CZcams channel? Any of you, are you interested in seeing a white RHD 1970 Pre facelift four door being put back on the road by a disabled guy in Australia?
    It’s the 8th Volvo I have owned. I currently own three, a Mercedes (1969), a couple of old Peugeot’s and a 1977 AUDI 100E 5 cyl 4 door saloon. I’m a European car freak; but nothing beats a real Volvo. Nothing.
    Another question. I’m pretty sure that this one is a ‘She’. I’ll put the delivery movie up if you like.
    Polite replies only; I have good kids that don’t like bad language; A name for her? I usually use the letter V. Am I wrong. Should it be a ‘He’.
    It’s not my channel, I’m not monetised, nothing, but if you like Volvo’s, please check out the ‘Swedish Rally’ channel for the classic races.
    I never know if to laugh or cry, but the adrenaline gets going.
    Beautiful car my friend. Beautiful. Well done. A credit to your dedication, love and tenacity 🇸🇪 🇺🇸 🇦🇺 🚙 💨 👨‍🏭 😃 🏔

    I had a British Racing Green Amazon wagon, the paint had no gloss to it at all. Unsurprising as I lived on the island of Orkney off the north coast of mainland Scotland. I drove that wagon to Newcastle where I caught the ferry to Bergen in Norway, then across to the Baltic and back. I saw lots of saloons, but not a single other wagon. This would have been in the late 1990s. It’s great to see yours in such good condition, well done sir

    It's the same color as my 66 I had . The grill is different. The ignition key would start to crack over time and I had to keep getting new ones made. I solved the problem by replacing the cigarette lighter with a push button switch to engage the starter. It fit the hole with no modifications. to the dashboard.

    A really fine job David, I'm sure you are happy with the end result. It's been quite a journey. A bit of slack in the steering? May adjust out a bit. Don't adjust tight!!! Steel or alloy timing gears? A bit of whistle going on there. Brave choice with the Mikunis, they are often hard to get just right. As you found with the downdraught Weber, what should work, sometimes doesn't. 👍

    • @DavidBello
      @DavidBello  Před 3 lety +1

      The steering is actually quite firm with almost no play. The adjuster nut is almost all the way in so I suspect a worn box but it's OK as is. The timing gear is fiber but I do hear some weird noises out of both our B20s after rebuild. As for the Mikunis, I'm quite impressed with the power delivery once I cleaned and adjusted the needles. I'll never go back to Webers but only recommend SUs for their simplicity and dependability. It's nice to be able to compare both setups side by side

    • @delukxy
      @delukxy Před 3 lety

      @@DavidBello Yes, once the amount of thread showing above the nut goes below about 1 1/2 threads it's getting pretty worn. Best to keep your eyes open for a much better one as there is no way to repair the worm. Volvo drivers with these boxes do get very tolerant! Driving with a good box can be a revelation.

    Its a real pleasure viewing what you have done with this wagon. I recently purchases a 1967 Volvo 121 wagon from a guys yard in Santa Cruz, Ca. While it has floorboard issues,, my biggest problem is locating glass for it. It is missing 8 out of the 12 glass segments. Any thoughts on locating door and rear side glass sections in California?
