Coming back to this 5 years after video release trying as a lance main to learn my toolkit better than when i last left the game, and this was an absolute treasure trove of information and technique. Thanks for all the effort you put into this.
One incredibly important feature of the Lance is its hurtbox selection. The Lance doesn't just deal its damage to the first or closest hurtbox you make contact with (wide sweep notwithstanding) but instead chooses the weakest hurtbox of all the monster's parts you stab. For instance, if im standing under a monster's leg, and perform an upward thrust that hits the leg, back, and tail all at the same time, then the damage will be applied to the tail, since it was the weakest part. Other weapons don't do this.
@@HamsterPants522 not even hypothetically, that's kind of lance's thing. Easily tenderize a part, and then stay glued to it for the entire fight because you have all the positioning tools you could ever want and the monster's attacks are barely even a nuisance
instant upvote for giving a proper introduction, explaining what this guide is for, giving reference and timestamps. Excellent content. This is now my favorite lance guide on the internet. Well done.
Forget MHW and video games all-together. This is by far the best guide video I've ever seen. The fact that he didn't shift into side-bar data or stories every 60 seconds is a godsend. The information was clear, concise and to the point so much that it makes me question every other youtuber that makes similar content, like "Why can't you put together a video like this"? This video played out like it was made by someone who doesn't make videos but instead someone who was tired of seeing all the garbage floating around out there and decided to set the standard. Amazing work, well done and I'll look forward to your content in the future.
As a new hunter for Pc version, i found this guide is far more specific and deeper into mechanic than other available guides for lance. This is my first MH game, and with this guide i just fell in love with lance. I hope that you are still up on part 2 of this guide as mentioned in the end of this video. Can't wait to explore other playstyles of this weapon. Thanks again.
This is a superb guide, thank you. You wanted feedback, so: Your delivery and pacing are very good, not too fast but still information dense - I think it's important to give the viewer time to assimilate and think while watching and you do it very well. The structure of the video is well thought-through - it is easier to appreciate nuance when it is presented in the right context and I felt you managed to do this consistently. Thanks for sharing your script, it's a good reference in and of itself. There are lots of little, but very useful details strewn through the video though they do not come across as distractions but rather fit well into the overall flow of your presentation. That's very hard to do well. I'm playing GU now but this is a great refresher as I'm about to add Lance back into the mix. I have been meaning to watch it since you released it and only just got around to it. It was worth the wait and the time, thank you. I hope you make more videos like this!
Outstanding guide. Thank you for taking the time to provide footage of everything you were referring to in real-time. It was extremely informative. This is easily the best Lance guide I've seen, and that includes some of the more notable channels' versions of in depth guides. Not knocking them, just pointing out that 0seraphic's work is a cut above.
OMG dude this guide is the best of the best guides that is out there! I can't belive how much info you cover and this is just like part 1 WTF!? Maximum effort!! Love it
This is the best guide ive seen on mhw so far... it even made me pick up a lamce and try to get in a bit deeper into the mechanics of it!! great work man
This guide was so detailed and thorough, such a great video bro!! Learned so much about the Lance and it’s fun mechanics. Definitely want to give it a try now! Thx and keep the content rollin!
Thanks for making such a detailed yet easy to understand video. I've been trying to master the lance since the game came out but couldn't get the hang of it but this video really helped. I've implemented all of your instructions to the best of my capabilities and I've seen a tangible change. I'm wandering if you're still planning on making the second part of this video, now that Iceborne came out. Maybe it won't be as long as this one but it would be great to see how you adapted your playstyle due to the new mechanics. Thanks again for the effort you put into making this masterpiece of a guide.
Excellent guide. I was a bit wary at first when you recommended starting on other guides as while I have played quite a bit none of it so far has been on lance but you do an /incredible/ job of breaking down the fundamentals in execution and application. Dont sell yourself short on this guides accessibility. While I would definitely enjoy other videos(even if they didnt match the depth of this one) on lancing styles, your take on skills, and monster tactics it feels a bit greedy to ask for it after such well done and thorough video. Downloaded this to my harddrive and will definitely be referring back to it as I learn the ropes playing lance. Production-wise everything was spot on. Footage was relevant to the commentary the entire time, narration was clear both in delivery and explanation, no quality issues. Not trying to sound like so much of a brown noser here, it was just that damn good of a guide.
Thanks so much for making this. I have a bit of time using lance but still learned some new things here. I had no idea how many lance attacks had mind's eye! Looking forward to your next installment!
I've been maining lance since Monster Hunter Freedom, so 13 years or so? And I still learned something from this! Thanks for teaching this old veteran a new trick! Greatly awaiting part 2!
Much, much appreciated guide. I was introduced to Monster Hunter in tiny snippets, an import of MH2: Dos being the start of it all, so I have "old lance" stuff in my head I need to train myself out of for maximum proficiency. You have helped.
Thank you for breaking down the mechanics. I am new to Monster Hunter and I had watched those other introductory weapon videos, but I feel this is what I needed to take my gameplay to the next level. I believe I am going to need to drill in the training area for a while to achieve this level of efficiency. Thanks again for the great video. I am looking forward to the rest.
As someone who just picked up the lance, this guide is pure gold and worth every second! It's easy to understand, well demonstrated and filled with good arguments why to (or not to) do certain things! You got yourself a sub, a like, and (if anyone in my vicinity wants to try out the lance) a big recommendation!
Fantastic guide. I picked Lance up at the end of Iceborne as I hit my particular skill ceiling in CB and wanted to try something else out. I've restarted a couple years later and rewatched this. But geez I never used the guard dash and that alone has completely upped my profiency. Appreciate this comprehensive and well structured breakdown
This inspired me to try the Lance and boy, was I not disappointed. The combo variations and options are a lot to take in and apply them out in the field but I've been practicing on various elder dragons to find my areas that need work and I'm having a blast. Good stuff indeed. Please do more if you have the time. You put a lot into this.
Thank you so so much for this Guide and the amount of Informations you have put together! Just started the Game recently and had a lot of trouble at first with the Lance. Your Guide has helped me lots. Earned a new sub!
Alright I thought 48 minutes was way too long for a simple weapon guide but I watch the whole thing not noticing the time go by. This is so informative! I didn't even know about the guard dash! This is going to make my lance plays so much more enjoyable. Thanks for the great video!
There's so much good information here. Been running lance recently and have been doing well with it in tempered elders, but I wanted to optimize my gameplay more. Your video gave such good tips to as you put it, play more efficiently.
I seldom comment on the youtube and after watching this video, i felt like I seriously need to say KUDOS !!! to you for making such a comprehensive guide. I'm Lance main for abt 500hrs and watched almost all the lance guides and some tricks i've accidentally discovered myself and thought i've learned it all but this guide have some trick that i didn't know of, such as power guard follow by knock back from normal guard. Really loved it and i'm sure this video will make me better Lancer. I have a few tip for Multiplayer play, 1) Take one point on flinch free so that other will not trip u and 2) when u counter monster near other ppl, do power guard instead so that ur teammate attack will not trigger the counter and cause u a cart. Again, Thx for this guide.
'boy do I feel silly... I just found out about guard-dashing, I thought it was an addition to monster hunter in iceborne. I cannot believe I've mained lance for a year+ after reaching endgame without using it, now I use it all the time. It really makes positioning so much easier!
this is so indepth! thankyou! you should be the narrator and creator if capcom updates tutorials for the weapons ingame, its like im watching a documentary :D hope u grow your channel soon !
Mate you are just excellent. I watch videos about things I know a lot about all the time because I know there is always more to learn. Anyone who is to proud or think they know everything is either delusional or an a-hole. I just wanted to say that I knew I would learn something but I could not beetle his many little things that I did not know and even a move I did not know existed. Wow I was blown away with how much I learned from you. Makes me kind of mad I did not find out or know this video earlier. I mean I have been using the lance for most of the game and for probably 400 hours after a it a great season to solo with since I don't have any friends who play monster Hunter and find it hard to find a stable group who are not godly or total noobs. You really helped me out. Sometimes I find I can get a little bored (very rarely though and after 6-8 hours)with the constant poking but that's usually of I am farming one monster so I move to another or just make me armor sets our weapon out yet another weapon. But that's why I love Monster Hunter. It's the only game where you can always be learning a tonne. Especially since mattering all 14 weaponswould take years and years I would say if not decades to be the best. Other games just don't have such varied weapons or as many........ I could go on for hours. I just think this game is an instant classic and one of my top 3 games of all time. I wouldn't think so but I can't argue with nearly 800 hours when I would only have a lot a quarter of that into the next closest game. So thank you so much for this video. I always watch Arekkz's videos to start and now I know to look for yours once I get fairly competent with it. Not sure if you have other videos like this I will have a look after this. Thanks kind sir for such an excellent video. Super well done. You are a champion of the lance and champion in general. Would love to fight along you some day so I could learn from you in person and have some fun. Wish they had a 2 thumbs up here.
If part two does eventually end up being made I'd really like for lancing styles to be a part of it. This would ideally include how to optimise different styles and maybe, for those of us prone to indecisiveness, a way of incorporating little bits from all the styles to form some kind of hybrid style. (also thanks for this video it's very informative and a well paced, easily digestible guide. I look forward to more like this in future!)
Wow thanks professor! I really enjoyed your guide and learned alot about the lance I did not know! I started hunting in world and have wanted to learn the lance "efficiently." This guide has helped me to realize how versatile the lance is and will help me to become a more efficient hunter with it.
Hey ! I always like the Lance on MHW, but I just watch your tuto, and this is awesome, you make me do the step, after 1450quests with my bows, I put them back in the chest, to grab my Taroth Claw. Feels sooooo good, it feels like you are invulnerable with a Lance. Awesome job ! :)
I've had some feelings that it was a thing, but I never paid enough attention to properly claim that, more like "wow I took a lot of damage, but I power blocked... weird.", and yeah also hundreds of hours using it here too... comes to show there's likely always something to learn even when we think we know the weapon fully!
Started using the Lance when Kulve Taroth came out, thought it was fun just dashing through her skirt. Had so much fun that I haven't touched my main weapon (Gunlance) ever since. Never thought there were more to the lance than what 400+ usage has taught me. Definitely looking forward to more Lance content!
This has helped me so much! I just started using the lance this last weekend and i was using only half is utility, i have found myself now mounting the monster once to three times each fight
I'm just getting into lance and gunlance after playing every other weapon. Like the Hunting Horn, both have been a pleasant surprise! This guide is really helping me understand the nuance of the lance beyond poke poke step repeat. 💯
Will we see Part 2 soon? Also, thank you so much for doing this guide! It was so useful to help me understand more advanced mechanics in objective terms, which will help me with my fights and determining how to build around my lance playstyle.
24:47 instead of jumping over your team. You can sidestep left or right during the charge very seamlessly (Evade+left/right) and do not lose your input ability like you would with a jump.
Good point but you will however lose your positioning and will have to consume double the stamina sidestepping back.. unless of course you have time to turn before reaching the monster. Remember, lance is about efficiency! lol
I was really excited at the end of the video to see a Part 2, but sadly it hasn't happened. I feel like this video should be more than enough to convince new players to pick up Lance despite the abysmal playrate at the moment for the weapon.
Subscribed! I’m glad i found your channel! 0seraphic ~ you definitely deserve more subs! Awesome content you’re created and i know I’m late to this particular video...but it does give me a lot more insight to lance...which is something i want to learn and main. (I’m a new MHW player on PC)

Decided to take up the lance and found this video. This info is like a whole new world! I love the lance!
15:51 near 300h of lance, didn't know power guard increase chip damage....
So do I...
@@banbechamcom so do I.... I also didn't know guard dash has full i-frames... I always treated it as guard point in CB -.-
I've had some feelings that it was a thing, but I never paid enough attention to properly claim that, more like "wow I took a lot of damage, but I power blocked... weird.", and yeah also hundreds of hours using it here too... comes to show there's likely always something to learn even when we think we know the weapon fully!
I mean he never waited until it was fully charged
@@bladehunter1097 This guide was before iceborne brought us the super power guard
Thank you for this extensive guide. As a new MHW player this guide made me love the Lance and made it my fav weapon.
Just want to let u know that this guide is super useful even 5 years later.
Thanks.
This is a quite thorough and well done explanation for Lance. Kodus to you, sir.
First time watching. Extremely well done.
I’m a newish player and enjoyed this guide.
This should be the gold standards for guides. Very nice work man.
Lovely guide, I love lance and just started play MHW. This is really a good guide, thanks mate.
Incredible job, glad i stumbled into this.
This has helped me so much! I just started using the lance this last weekend and i was using only half is utility, i have found myself now mounting the monster once to three times each fight
Amazing guide! I really, really enjoyed this as a new Lance player.
I'm just getting into lance and gunlance after playing every other weapon. Like the Hunting Horn, both have been a pleasant surprise! This guide is really helping me understand the nuance of the lance beyond poke poke step repeat. 💯
Bruh. It's been a year and a half. Where's part 2? Best tutorial for a MHW weapon I've ever seen.
I'm an SA main but I really enjoyed this guide, you really show how there's so much more to lancing than just poke, poke, poke and block.
Subscribed just because of this guide. I'm almost HR 400 and found this to be the best weapon guide.
Almost 500 hunts with lance on this game and never knew about the directional guard dashes. Great video.
Lols, same here, the game doesn't mention anywhere that you can Guard dash in different directions.
Remember, lance is about efficiency! lol
Awesome video!
It helped me a lot as a lance starter
It was worth the time.
Ok here's my feedback. Best guide on a game I have ever seen. Hope you will come around to do the second part. Subed
I was really excited at the end of the video to see a Part 2, but sadly it hasn't happened. I feel like this video should be more than enough to convince new players to pick up Lance despite the abysmal playrate at the moment for the weapon.
Awesome video, swapping from the LS to Lance, thanks for the info
Subscribed! I’m glad i found your channel! 0seraphic ~ you definitely deserve more subs! Awesome content you’re created and i know I’m late to this particular video...but it does give me a lot more insight to lance...which is something i want to learn and main. (I’m a new MHW player on PC)
