    A tip for anyone starting Iceborne on Hunting Horn:
    You can quickly go farm the MR1 Arena Quest against Banbaro to craft the Black Belt Arms Alpha+, this comes with Lv2 Wide Range AND Level 2 Horn Maestro, packing 150 defense as well.
    At MR2 you can fight Paolumu in the arena to get the Black Belt waist, for increased capture rewards from the black belt set bonus. Happy Dooting!!

    Welcome to the Dooters Tera! Good to have you Forward Recital.
    If you want to do a quick "Recital" just utilize the standard "Recital". That one is much faster but you have to train yourself to let go of the "Left Stick" before hitting "R2".
    2. Maybe I just missed this part but during the "Right Double Swing" you can input any note during the second swing animation.
    3. You can cancel/roll out of every Move you do in order to make the recovery faster on attacks.
    Very useful for: "Backwards Slams", "Overhead Smashs", "Recitals" and canceling unwanted Spins.
    You can also roll out of your "Recitals" after an Individual Song gets played.
    4. The "Shockwave" of an "Recital" that comes out when you have at least one Song stored also does good damage.
    And now keep on dooting! :3

    Really good video! I love to see more Hunting Horn lovers out here and still thriving!😄
    Hunting Horn is a "read & react" weapon, it's tough to have a one-size-fits-all strategy. A lot depends on the specifics of the hunt, like the monster you're facing and the environment you're in. But here are some more advance tips for everyone who's starting to play HH:
    1. Before you start fighting, play your Movement Speed/Attack Deflection songs (and any others you need). It takes the pressure off having to play them mid-battle.
    2. Positioning is everything. The HH is slow, so if you're not in the right spot when you swing, you'll pay for it.
    3. Don't rush your moves. This weapon shines when you take your time and react to what's the monster's doing.
    4. The HH works best when you're targeting the monster's head, so aim for that whenever you can.
    5. Mega Potions are your best friend or ancient potion if you're in the end game.
    6. You can cancel out of the second move of [O] Swing and the first [RT] recital with a dodge roll.
    7. As you get better with the HH, you'll learn that every swing should be for a melody-no wasted moves.
    Also, check out Griffted's Hunting Horn Masterclass. It's excellent and covers the ABSOLUTE GIGA CHAD MOVE that is Q.T.A.B.S. (He's my inspiration to play Hunting Horn well)
    May he be comeback on wilds release, we can only hope 😔
    Happy Doot Dooting the monster everybody!

    Hello, hello! Nice video!
    There's a shortcut you didn't mention: the musical note "b" allows you to include a second note (except lt) in the second part of your animation.
    which means that if you combine all the possibilities, you can make :
    " knockbacks Negated " + "Attack Up" + "All melody Effects Extended" = 2 + 3 + 1 animations, including 1 short movement
    or : "All melody Effects Extended" + " knockbacks Negated " + "self improvement " = 2 + 1 + 1, including 1 short movement
    or again : "self improvement" + "Attack Up" + "All melody Effects Extended" = 2 + 3 + 0, with 2 shorts

    To me, HH has always just been Hammer but with better reach and a load of buffs. 4th favorite weapon.
    A shortcut not mentioned:
    The last note you play in a melody counts as the first note you play in the next melody, so you can string together 3 songs with 2 less notes played.
    For instance, in your triple encore example (16:17), it would have costed you two less attacks to go from self-improvement to Atk Up to KB negate instead of the order you demonstrated (including playing the first note for Atk Up that was unnecessary). Or alternatively, Atk Up to KB negate to Self-improve
    Your example = Y, Y, B, Y+B, B, Y, Y, Y+B, Y+B, B, RT, RT (12 attacks, 6 buffs)
    Shortcut version = Y, Y, Y+B, Y+B, B, Y+B, B, Y, RT, RT (10 attacks, 6 buffs)

    • @flisboac
      @flisboac Před měsícem +2

      I'd even go a step further, and use Flourishes and hilt attacks to my advantage.
      A sequence I commonly do for that note set (Fatalis HH, etc) is the following (when unsheathed):
      --> Directional Forward + B, Y + B (Flourish: Y+B is played after the first swing of the HH, during play of B)
      --> Directional Forward + B, Y ("Knockbacks Negated" queued; with the help of Flourish, again)
      --> Y + B + Directional Back (Hilt attack, less time to play the note)
      --> Y + B
      --> Directional Forward + B, Y ("Attack Up" queued; with the help of Flourish, again)
      --> Y + Directional Back ("Self Improvement" queued, with a Hilt attack)
      Then, IMMEDIATELY press RT to do a Performance (Plays all queued music), which will start with "Self Improvement".
      Sarting with "Self Improvement" is really important when you intend to do an encore, because its encore only does ONE swing with the HH. This makes providing song effects faster.
      Also, when you immediately play Self improvement after that hilt attack, it does a faster animation, a move that throws the HH up. It's somewhat faster than doing a Performance "at-rest" (when idle).
      All in all, from zero to hero, not counting the Performance (RT), those are 6 moves, for what amounts to 8 notes, in order to play three songs with a total note count of 10.

    @nowx072 Před 3 dny

    I hope this will be seen by anyone else intending to learn the Hunting Horn. Do try all of these in the training area and slowly integrate them into your playstyle.
    Additional tips not mentioned in the video:
    1) You can use the last note from a previous song to chain into the next song. Using the song set from video, Purple + Purple gives you Self-Improvement and Att Up L starts with Purple. So your moves can be Purple > Purple > Orange > Orange > Red to queue up the 2 songs, reducing the number of moves needed to get to your intended result by 1. If you want to add in a 3rd song directly after Att Up L, it would be Knockbacks Negated since it starts with a red note.
    2) There is one more version of recital not mentioned in the video. After a hilt stab, do a neutral recital immediately. Neutral means no movement input, just RT. Your hunter will swing the horn upwards and perform the queued songs. This is the fastest recital in your kit but it can only be accessed after a hilt stab.
    3) Encoring the Self-Improvement and Secret Note songs only swings the horn once. The other standard songs like Att Up L swings the horn twice for neutral, forward, left and right inputs encores before the song effects apply to you. 3 swings if you use the backwards recital. So if you have queued up 3 songs Knockbacks Negated, Att Up L and Self-Improvement; start the recital from Self-Improvement, play through the song queue then hit recital again. You will have encored Att Up L and Knockbacks Negated with less animation commitment. Side note, you can roll out of your recital/encore once you see the white flash on your hunter.
    Keep on dooting!

    World was my first MH game like a lot of people, and when I started Rise and picked up the Horn I adored it, so simple, so fun, so strong. But when I went back to World for a replay I realised how different the weapon was and found it kinda daunting. There is another note shortcut! Whenever you play the B/O forward note (the quick two-swing attack), you can play a second note for free during the second swing!

    Hi! Really amazing guide, thank you for sharing the Dooting ways!
    One thing, Horn Maestro is VERY nice, yes, however, it is not needed once you get into the swing of just stacking your melodies, but again, it is amazong to just let them be up for longer

    • @flisboac
      @flisboac Před měsícem

      I kinda disagree, but I do understand your point.
      It's true that queueing songs is not that hard, and is basically the whole idea behind the weapon. It IS your main rotation. Song uptime is important for consistent damage.
      However, the moves with higher motion value in general don't contribute as much to most of the songs you would like to keep, e.g. you may be forced to play a sub-optimal note in a good punish window in order to just keep playing the songs. Some examples are the Super Pound and the Spin Attack.
      Being free to focus on attacking the monster and doing damage from time to time is quite liberating, and a welcome addition, IMHO. That's also why "All Melody Effects Extended" is so useful as well, it's queued by playing some of the most damaging moves (superpound and right swing), can be flourished away indefinitely, AND extends effects for songs you've already played -- and all that with less notes, in general!
      But even in scenarios where damage is not the primary concern (e.g. support, healing), having more music uptime "for free" (via Horn Maestro; without having to queue new songs) is still extremely useful, and frees you up to e.g. heal, buff with items, etc.
      I consider Horn Maestro an essential skill. You immediately see the difference when you're not using it.

    I didn't realize you could play/encore up to 3 melodies at once. The only problem I had with hunting horn was managing all of your buffs. I originally played one buff at a time. That made it really hard to get every buff activated at the same time, let alone using echo waves with those buffs active. That's a total gamechanger for me.

  • @iGussifriz
    @iGussifriz Před 9 dny

    Great vid, a few things your forgot to mention are :
    The second note; "B" on xbox; allows the input of a second note in the middle of it. That's basically a free note without having to go through an animation; huge shortcut.
    And secondly, melodies' ENCORE playing time depends on the lenght of the melody. So a 2 note's encore like Self-improvement will play the fastest. That's where inputing your long melodies alongside Self-improvement can be very beneficial. You can either add self-improvement last and press RT / R2 to start from top to bottom and halve your animation for all your melodies' encore, or use RT+Y / RT+B which translates to R2+▲ / R2+O on PS controller to pick and choose which melody to start from, and then top to bottom.
    This way, you will only have the first part of the animation to get all your encores. Be aware that this will reduce your overall damage tho, as you will only have the first animation and skip the follow-up. It's yours to decide when to skip and when not to.
    Also, melodies play the fastest from the hilt stab (back note), so you can get all this together. Input long melody (3+ notes) > self improvement > hilt stab > perform.
    Otherwise, the neutral input is the second fastest, and will deal more damage.
    As for encores, it's the left input that plays the fastest, neutral is second but keeps you in place. So whether you start from a hilt stab or a neutral, always go left for your encore if you want it to play fast overlooking DPS (neutral input if you don't want to move the hunter).

    I'd say Fatalis is definitely NOT the hardest monster to fight against, with a HH in hand. In fact, it's a really good matchup, and an easy way to finish Fatalis if you can't do it with other weapons.
    HH is a fast weapon when unsheathed and walking, so your uptime is great, even if your moves are somewhat sluggish and have a slightly high recovery window. Fatalis gives you lots of windows for punishment, although the DPS may be low because HH is a weapon of consistency and opportunistic play, and is not that good for punishment (e.g. GS with its TCS when it's down on the ground, etc.; yes, I'm saying Spin-to-win is weak! But only comparatively!).
    I would consider monsters like Raging Brachydios and all variants of Tigrex as true bad matchups to HH.
    Raging Brachy because the damn thing doesn't ever stop dancing around you while leaving pools of explosive slime that may kill or at least trip you up, while HH turns around like a tank, and attacks like a grandma with arthritis for what amounts to puny damage (IMHO, at least :D)
    And Tigrex because HH's lack of defensive moves is detrimental to this fight; Tigrex's whole body turns into a damage hitbox when it spins or runs towards you, and it does those things ALL the time.
    Having said that, Spin To Win FTW, and as a main HH weapon, I find it is almost perfection; I just wish motion values were higher for some moves.
