    I got a letter in the mail about this recall finally after first hearing it in march. My closets service dealer is a Russo equipment dealer that will service it as long as I provide the original receipt from when I purchased the unit at Lowe’s. (Hopefully I can find it!) it’s around a 2 week turnaround and could be longer if they don’t have the part.

      We run a system where people are put into a queue and get a call a few days before their equipment would come up in the lineup. This allows equipment that still runs to be used until their turn comes up.

    How does the lifetime warranty work for the ignition coils for a defective one? Can a homeowner mechanic bring a bad one in, or does a qualified Husqvarna shop have to diagnose and repair it? If it is the latter, then the bench time cost negates the savings from getting a free coil (assuming one still has the receipt). My Shindaiwa C242 coil just took a dump, and Shindaiwa also has a limited lifetime warranty. I ended up buying a new one online because there are no longer any dealers where i live.

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  Před 5 měsíci +1

      The equipment must have been registered to the original owner and the claim can only be credited to him. A dealer must confirm the failure and submit a claim and make the repair. If the equipment is still under warranty then the labor is included. If the equipment is out of warranty then the labor cost is the responsibility of the owner.
      The reason is because not all coils that don't produce spark are defective. Sometimes its a kill switch, wiring short, bad ground, bad plug boot, flywheel problem, poor testing methods, etc.
      For Husqvarna, we can check a database and see if it was registered so no reciept needed if it was. Labor flat rate for a coil is usually about half an hour.

    • @w6qd
      @w6qd Před 5 měsíci +1

      In my case, the coil actually had a decent spark. Every five (5) or so pulls, the engine would do a single pop. I pulled my hair out in frustration on this one, but a new coil fixed the brushcutter. This was a rare occasion where I couldn't find a CZcams video that covered this issue. According to the 1995 Shindaiwa Workshop Manual, their coils were Transistor Controlled Ignitions ( i.e., TCI), many Echos are Capacitor Discharge Ignitions (CDI). Do the internal electronic components degrade over time and that in turn throws off the Ignition timing?

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I would think any component, whether it be electronic or not, is subject to degradation when exposed to a lot of heat cycles. @@w6qd

    I bet theirs a backlog on parts for replacement. Have you had any difficult or backlog on warranty parts. Thank you

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  Před 5 měsíci +1

      There was a stop sale on these units months ago. I suspect the long delay between then and just getting the coils now was the wait for new coils. Parts backorders are getting less frequent.

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  Před 5 měsíci

      Not sure. They come with a lifetime warranty to original purchaser. Does that mean you make them cheap so replacement costs are low or do you spend more money up front on all of them and hope for less failures?

      @@TheGreasyShopRag Well, at this point the "cheap" theory is biting husky in the arse as there are a huge number in the recalls.
