    So to change timing chain on Audi A8 engine with AWD, you have to extract the entire drive train minus rear diff . Then take separate ZF8HP AWD variant from engine. Then disassemble the engine down to the core. Perform maintenance on chain. Then reassemble the engine and drive train without error. Seems like an easy stress free task. Hooray for German engineering.

      You don't have to break down the entire engine. Just pull the tranny and the rear timing cover......but ya, super fucking stressful. All of the Audo chain 4.2L are like this.

      @hamper116 Před 3 lety +1

      I think it was for weight distribution, because of the AWD the engine sits so far in front of the axles. And I feel like the timing system can counter some of that weight. That’s just my thoughts

    • @E34Benzin
      @E34Benzin Před 3 lety

    • @goddesseddog
      @goddesseddog Před 2 lety

      @@hamper116 It's actually for harmonics. There's an accessory drive on the front; when timing chain also on the front, there'd be a lot in front of the front-most bearing. However, many reliable engines were built that way. Then again, those all have a single timing chain. Audi needs 3.
