    This is my save, I had won the campaign about 100 turns ago before I even got the chance to recruit any of the elite units so I kept playing to build a really strong army to see what it can do. The AI will ALWAYS retreat from this army, even with 4 stacks and superior balance of power they still ran away, so I had to attack an army twice to force a battle. The hardest part was finding something that would be a challenge because the AI loves spamming trash units even late game. Auto-resolve will win this battle too, but tends to wipe out a unit or two, but it's rare to go up against this much so it could probably just auto-resolve across the whole map. But you wouldn't want to do that because it's way more fun to use all this dakka in battle. This army obliterates pretty much everything, as Legend says enemy artillery spam could be a problem but I don't see AI recruiting tons of artillery, everything else just gets shredded by the high volume of really accurate fire.

    FINALLY! Someone used Satsuma to create units with supperior Accuracy. I always do this when playing because I realized having superior quality is way better performance and cost wise than just sheer numbers when playing FOTS because one good unit can destroy multiple inferior units. The army in this case could have used some melee just as fodder to catch a shogitai spam army. Also why how hasn't he unlocked the suppression fire ability? Doesn't he know that the debuff on accuracy pretty much is negligible when you have elite units with modified accuracy. Suppression fire causes morale damage and increases fire rate by alot it's broken when used with very accurate units.

      @@samarkand1585 Japan had been extensively demilitarized during the 200 years of peace and the escalation to violence was very sudden. Furthermore, many clans hedged their bets and even in case where participation would have been possible, didn't want to risk their men and future fortunes. Being on the losing side of a rebellion is rarely a good thing.
      Whatever few soldiers there were had heavy difficulties in getting mobilized and transported to battles due to outdated logistics and lack of organizational knowledge after such a long disconnect with need to project power. Resulting from the fragile political situation and the comparative lack of forces, pitched battles were grievously dangerous as a loss could make the undecided clans to side with the enemy, effectively multiplying their forces many times over. This made them a rarity as well.
      The precarious politics were still a factor after the war, as can be gathered from the uncommonly lenient peace terms. There was great fear that harsh punishments could backfire. Satsuma would prove the potential risk justified.

    Potentially even better doomstacks could be constructed by Tosa which get straight-up overpowered Tosa riflemen and Nagaoka which has +15% reload speed for all rifle infantry. Nagaoka would have the added benefit that as a Shogunate clan, they can get French marines which have the best shooting stats of all line infantry in FOTS. This combines well with the French alliance bonus of +5 accuracy for rifle infantry.

    Hey legend, I said that before in a previous video, but you probably didnt read the comment. So you can place an artillery unit when its still mounted in a 2 rank formation. Then you dismount and the cannons will just take half the space than usual cause the 2 cannons from the back row get placed between the ones in the front. With their shorter range, the Gatling cannons excell at taking out infantry formations, but can also be well used against Cavalry as they have little aim issues against fast moving targets.

A few point sof criticism for this army: For one, as mentioned, armstrong guns in general are better; You miss out on one Royal Marines (Maximum cap is 3, not 6) And I do believe that gatling guns are pretty overrated. The kills in which you achieve with gatling guns can more often than not simply be done with normal rifleman, or armstrong guns. And for the former, your increase of vulnerability to siege and cavalry is less pronounced.
    I'd have probably cut down gatling gun down to 2 instead of 4, and added 1 armstrong gun and 1 gatling gun imo!

    • @LillianKoi
      @LillianKoi Před 8 měsíci

      As for the best army possible in FotS, I'd probably lean towards a Shogunate army: Shogunate Guard Cavalry is a cut above all other cavalry (It's a boosted Yari Ki), so it has the speed, and the strength to run down enemies; Shogunate forces also have access to the French Marines, which are statistically better than the British ones (Better ranged stats, worse melee stats)

    That army is a 8/10 max.
    -No gattling needed
    -More Armstrong would be better
    -Its mandatory to see more than one foreign infantry. The cap is 3 per nation, and 1 extra Royal marine from event, I believe. So 9 or 10. Not 2.
    -At that point is probably better to have a second general for more constant gangbatte

    FOTS imo proves that CA (well the CA team that made FOTS) is capable of making a WW1 game, doesn't even have to be a proper TW title, just a WW1 game.
    Of course, i think it might end up being really frustrating and not fun at times, but that's trying to balance WW1 for ya.

    • @jessiemeisenheimer8675
      @jessiemeisenheimer8675 Před 8 měsíci +3

      I don't know about that. The Western and Italian fronts were dominated by trench warfare but the eastern front was far more open and mobile. How would they properly simulate that? A map encompassing most of Europe, the Middle East, USA and large swaths of Africa and east Asia with a large number of settlements might just break CA if they tried to make it.
      The Great War mod for Napoleon shows that a game with soldiers using bolt action rifles and machine guns would make cavalry useless. Tanks would be a solution but they would only make sense in the late game. Having them at the start would not be historical and not to mention imersion breaking. The ultra accurate and deadly artillery would be a big problem as well.
      I just don't think it would be possible. They barely got linear musket warfare right.

    I think sending out the cav to deal with artillery that was out of range was a bad idea, Ive tried the stagger infantry with gatling before but the micro to stop friendly fire is a bit much, putting the cav behind the gatling guns and a marine on either side with the infantry on the flanks is what I would have done, the cav and respond to high pressure in certain parts of your line fast and fire over heads better than being a harrassment force.

    • @sir_vix

      It was more of a compressed checkerboard... Which is more common with the empire in any case. I think the FF mitigation is more effective in WH, so you have a bit more freedom with regard to formations. It would be nice if you could form company level infantry squares with infantry units, or use canister shot with cannons.... But I don't know how you'd overcome that with traditional units.

    It's turn 235 and no suppression fire.Also comparing Gatlings with armstrongs is kinda unfair. Gatling is a line piece with a lower range.

    • @petruluca6124
      @petruluca6124 Před 8 měsíci +1

      Its not unfair,
      You can chose. Every time you chose one or the other, you are comparing. Happens with everything.
      So gattlings are more expensive to recruit and mantain
      Need more tech and buildings, way more.
      The building is also limited to 1
      Are limited to like 6 max.
      No arch fire eighter
      Low ammo
      Low damage output comparing with some stacked line infantry on a hill
      The do friendly fire like autists
      They way to play Gattlings is when you are dominating you get just to pres H and shoot yourself. Have fun.
      Better instal a mod to balance them a bit before.
      Armstrongs are gamechanging. Gattlings are toys.

    • @samarkand1585
      @samarkand1585 Před 8 měsíci +1

      Yeah? That's why he compared them across a whole range of use-cases? And concluded that the cases when Armstrong guns performed largely to marginally better are far more numerous than the cases when Gatlings performed marginally better. And in case you say "well he didn't say all that in this video", this video is far from the only time he's compared the two lately
